🐾With another busy week of orthopedic and fracture repair surgeries upon us (next week!), this is a great read for those wanting a better understanding if they've noticed any limping from their pet.

“One of the things I hear most from people when I tell them I’m going to school to be a vet is “Animals are so tricky; they can’t tell you what hurts!” This is a very true statement; they can’t verbally tell us what’s wrong. However, they do give us some clues based on body language…...

We love being part of such an incredible story! 🐶

Bronx came to our traveling orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Teachout, about 2 months ago with extensive injuries to both hind legs. This resulted in the fracture repair of one leg and amputation of the other- but look at him now! Bronx is enjoying the puppy life he deserves and has found a wonderful and loving fur-ever home with his foster mom! We love that we got to be such an important part of the healing and recovery of the goodest boy! 🐾

Here's a little feel good to bring some extra sunshine to your weekend! 🌞

Meet Elliot! She is one of the toughest fighters any of us have ever met. She was initially brought to us with a very severe systemic infection that was really giving her little body a very hard time (we're talking kidneys, liver, white blood cell count, platelets and blood... which had nearly 0 platelets!) She underwent 3 separate procedures (including debridement of dead skin that was about 30% of her ventral abdomen, two drains and a feeding tube... ) and had been hospitalized with us on and off for about 2 months. There were some scary days, but Elliot always pulled through and we are SO happy to see her starting to live her best life. She deserves it! 🐱

Major shout out to Dr. Ullmann and our amazingly dedicated, caring, skilled and compassionate team of Technicians. Many hours were spent giving treatments and attention to Elliot without fail. We could not have provided the care that was needed if it weren't for them!

And in the words of Dr. Ullmann... "She never stopped making biscuits." (Every single time anyone would look at her, her little front paws would start kneading.) 🥹

🐾We want to give a huge shout out and brag a bit on our intern (and soon to be Technician!!!), Arianna! Last night, she received the award for "Outstanding Veterinary Technician Student 2024" from her program at Eastern Iowa Community College in Muscatine!🌟

Arianna has been such an incredible addition to our team since starting with us in May of 2023, so we know how deserving she is of this award! Congrats, Arianna! 🥳

You know what makes a cold, rainy, dreary day a little more manageable? Giving a bottle to a baby goat...

(No, we don't see goats... but when they just show up, this is what happens... 😉)

Here's a little feel good to warm you up on this frigid day- meet Bella! Bella is kicking cancer's butt, thanks to the love of her owners and the care and expertise of Dr. Keller, her Technician, Cara, and the rest of their daily team.

She was diagnosed last summer and started receiving chemo right away. Bella has been so sweet through it all. We love seeing her do so well and we also love the time we get to spend providing care and treatment to her. 🐾❤️🖤

🐾'Tis the season for celebrating!🥳

Meet Nicholas Rose- a 3 year old Irish Setter. He came to us in August of 2022 when Dr. Merlin Van Zee performed surgery on an abdominal mass and shortly after, it was confirmed as aggressive lymphoma. In September of 2022, Dr. Paige Keller took over his case so that he could begin chemotherapy treatments... unfortunately, just a couple of months after starting chemo, the cancer relapsed. Quickly, Dr. Keller did some research and they were able to switch his chemo drug and in turn, Nicholas finished his chemo in December of 2022. The best part of it all?! Nicholas's original prognosis was only 6 months- and here we are defying odds an entire year later and he is still in remission! Nicholas Rose, you are the goodest boy!🐶

It’s a day to celebrate! 🥳 After nearly 4 weeks, Bella gets to go home! We’ll miss her so much, but we’re sure she won’t miss the constant bandage changes, kennel rest/containment and surgeries. This girl has been through a lot in the past several weeks, but we are so thankful to have been able to provide her the care she needed to heal and recover. We spoiled her a bit today with some extra festive treats- Bella definitely earned them and we know she is so happy to be going home to her family, just in time for her birthday and the holidays! 🎄

🐾Thinking about getting a new pet? That's the perfect time to also start looking into pet insurance! There are a lot of pet insurance companies out there, but it can save you a lot of money in the long-run if your pet should ever need to be seen for an emergency situation. You'll need to do your research to find which company offers the plan that suits you best (and you can usually tailor them a bit to fit your budget), but it's something we sure recommend looking into! Having pet insurance is an excellent way to prepare for your pet's future care so you aren't stuck in a bind if/when something happens!

While we have dealt with companies like Trupanion and ASPCA the most, there are so many great pet insurance companies out there with all sorts of different plans to choose from. Here's a great article to better explain pet insurance along with the breakdown of several different companies. 🐶🐱

Buying pet insurance may help defray the costs of healthcare for your furry (or feathered or scaly) friend. It helps to know which pet insurance companies offer the best deals for your wallet.
