It seems like I have been doing way to many of these lately, but it is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Matilda, the Boerboel female that we have had in rescue for a while. it's an unfortunate part of rescue work, but sometimes things don't go your way and there is no happy ending.
She came into rescue with a previous history of having a lump removed. Once she was moved to her foster home a small lump appeared and started growing. We sent her to a specialist and were told that she had cancer that was spreading through her body and that there was nothing to be done but give her the best life possible for the time she had left. That was a month ago.
Her foster mom made sure she had a wonderful time throughout all the holidays, dressed up for Halloween, special treats for Christmas and going with her to work as often as possible. Some of the photos in this video were taken just this last weekend at the beach. Matilda collapsed this morning and passed on her way to the vet.
We can't thank her foster mom, Sarah enough for all the love and care she was given. Please hug your babies extra tight tonight, you never know how long you'll have them.
Another of our wonderful FLGDR alumni has crossed the rainbow bridge. Rosie was a middle aged lady that was used by a backyard breeder to pump out litter after litter of puppies, with little or no medical care and when the mass she had got so big that she was of no more use, she was discarded like trash.
She had the large mass removed when she entered rescue and was adopted by a wonderful family - they knew she was a hospice dog, but they were determined to give her the very best life possible for the time she had left. They live on a large beautiful farm with horses, other dogs and several other animals. She got to romp and play, follow on trail rides and be spoiled right up until her last breath. This is what her mom had to say...
"I just wanted to let you know we lost our sweet Rosie girl Friday. She had had quite a few health issues the past couple of months, so much that we had started to think she was immortal! Her cancer had metastasized into her lymph nodes, lung, and stomach, and even with taking some large tumors off in July more had popped up and ulcerated quickly.
Thursday evening she was fine, and then declined rapidly. Her back end wasn’t working by morning so we made the call. We had our vet come to the house so she could pass with dignity in her bed. Her mind was still as sharp as ever but her body just couldn’t hold on. "
Fly free sweet Rosie - Cancer free - leaving this earth having eventually known so much love and care. We send our condolences to her family as well as a huge thank you for all you did for her.
We would like to thank everyone that donated, volunteered to foster, prayed and sent good wishes for our girl Noelle. We thought we would give you an update by way of this wonderful short video of this incredibly sweet girl. She LOVES to be with humans.
She has begun her healing journey and we will keep you updated on her progress as she moves down the road of recovery. If you haven't yet donated and would like to, the following options are still available to you.

If you follow our page, you are familiar with the Globetrotting Danes. Originally there were two, discarded breeder dogs, so badly neglected, I wasn't sure they would survive when they came into rescue. Survive they did and they were adopted by a wonderful couple with multiple houses that they got to visit and frolic in. Over the years, we have shared many photos of their adventures.
They recovered well from their neglect, but the one thing we couldn't change was the damage the heartworms had done to their organs. Sadly Romulus passed away in 2023 and Mini Moo or Minerva passed yesterday. Both from heart failure, their bodies just couldn't repair the damage from the worms. Their parents are devastated over her loss. Recently they have added a couple new members to the Globetrotting Danes, but none will replace Rom & Minerva, the sweetest dogs you will ever come across.
This tribute is to them, but also to ALL the dogs used as backyard breeders and then discarded. Many have never seen a vet or lived inside a home.
Run free Rom and Minerva - together again, pain free. You were well loved.
The dogs pictured could certainly use a forever home. We know everyone is busy this time of year, but take a minute to look at these faces and realize what it's like for them living in rescue - not having a family or home of their own. Wondering why they no longer have a home and what they did wrong for their people to leave them alone. We can't explain to them that in a couple of cases, they were surrendered for their own good from situations that were unhealthy or dangerous for them.

GIVING TUESDAY
It’s Giving Tuesday and we need your help. The dogs in this video have been saved by Florida Giant Dog Rescue. Most have found their forever homes, a few are still waiting.
This year has been taxing on the rescue in more ways than one. Many, many of the dogs we took in needed veterinary care. Our vet bills are through the roof and the truth is - we can’t keep saving the medical cases without your help. In one month alone our vet charges were over $6000 - that was just 3 dogs. Won't you help us out be making a small donation?
Pick out your favorite photo of your pup and post it on our wall of love when making your donation. The link below will take you to our wall of love. Tuesday is Giving Tuesday and many, many requests will flood your feed for donations. We are one of many reputable charities that will be asking for your help.
Rescues all over the country are closing from lack of funds, volunteers, fosters, adopters or simply burn out. What we do is stressful, emotionally taxing and not to mention expensive. We do our best to make sure the dogs in our care get the veterinary help they need, some long term, some are seniors and the list of reasons just goes on.
If everyone reading this post, gave a couple of dollars, we would reach our goal in no time. We understand that times have been hard, especially in Florida with back to back hurricanes, we have taken in dogs that no longer have homes because of it.
Won't you please help us out? The link below will take you to our giving grid where you can post a photo of your pet (past or present) to honor them with your donation. Everyone involved with FLGDR thanks you and the dogs your are currently helping and those to come owe you their lives.
