Does your dog do this? Here’s why… When your dog grabs a toy and seems to show it off to you, this is called displacement behavior. Your pup isn’t actually parading around looking for praise. They’re actually just trying to find an outlet for any built-up energy they might have. Ever notice your dog does this when something exciting happens, like a guest coming over? That’s why! So, the next time you know something exciting is about to happen, make sure your dog’s favorite toy is nearby for them to grab. ❤️🐶

Here’s an easy DIY enrichment game with your puppy using things you have at home! We call it the puppy onion. 🧅
Wrap some treats up in a paper bag, stuff it in an empty paper towel roll, wrap it up in a kitchen towel & blanket. Then, watch your puppy have a blast figuring out how to get to the treats in all the layers. All that sniffing and foraging is great mental exercise for your dog! 🧠
Do you use treat dispensing toys? They’re so great for mental enrichment for your puppy. It gets them to use their brain while they work to get the treats out! We have a few favorites: The Bob-A-Lot, the Snoop and the Kong Wobbler. You can get them below!

Have you heard of the “emergency u-turn” when it comes to dog training? 🐕 The emergency u-turn is used when your dog is too excited to greet someone and you do a u-turn to turn and walk the other way. It prevents pulling on the leash and your pup learns to stay close to you! Make sure to follow us for other helpful tips for dog training. 🐾 #dogtrainer #dogtraining101 #dogtraining #puppytraining #puppytraining101

Is your puppy a picky eater? When they first come home, they may not eat well, and that’s okay! But, when puppies start picking at their food or seem to stop eating, the most common reaction is to doctor-up their food. This is a one-way ticket to a picky eater, since they’re learning that refusing to eat rewards them with better options. Before adding anything to their food, consider their feeding schedule, the bowl they’re using, and whether their teeth could be sore from teething! #puppyfood #diydogfood #positivedogtraining #dogfood #doglover
What do you use to reward and reinforce your puppy? Did you know that you can use non-food reinforcement to reward a puppy with a sensitive stomach? Reward with petting, as long as your puppy is comfortable with being touched. Use play within your play sessions to create more structure and prevent your puppy from becoming overstimulated! #dogtrainer #fearfree #dogtraining #dogtraining101 #puppytraining

“When can I leave my puppy home alone?” - we get this question often! There’s no magic age or magic time that every puppy is ready, but it depends on how your puppy feels about being alone. Some puppies are ready earlier than others. They’re bad at being alone - they’ve always been with momma dog or littermates! Building up their confidence so they’re comfortable being left alone in their crate will be important. Remember to go SLOWLY, at your puppy’s pace, increasing time in small increments. If you want more help or you’re ready to start this confidence-building, type “home” and we’ll send you a walk-through video for the process! 🐶🏡 #dogtraining101 #newpuppy #newpuppyparents #puppytraining101 #puppy
Puppy training can be fun! 🐶 Here’s an idea: add enrichment into your training session. You can see here, we added some foraging into your training! It’s important training is also fun for your puppy so they enjoy it! ❤️Make sure to follow for more puppy training tips! #dogtraining101 #dogtrainer #puppytraining101 #dogtraininggames #doglover

Here’s how to build a puppy’s confidence from a fear-free certified dog trainer! 🐶💪To do this, we’re going to do an activity where your puppy walks on 3 different textured surfaces. Let your puppy check out each surface on their terms, then reward when they step on it. Don’t push them, let them slowly work towards stepping on it or getting closer. This will slowly build confidence for different surfaces your puppy may need to walk across! We did a piece of plywood, an anti-slip mat and a contractor bag, but you can do any puppy-safe surface that you have at your house! - For more confidence-building ideas, comment “confidence” and we’ll send you a video. #dogtraining101 #dogtrainer #dogtraining #puppytraining #puppytraining101

Which leash is best to use for walking your puppy? Well, there are 2 leashes you’ll need... and one you should never use! 6 Foot Leash ✅ 30 Foot Leash✅ Retractable Leash ❌ The 6-ft leash is perfect for neighborhood walks, potty breaks, and training sessions. The 30-ft leash is used for decompression walks, or ‘Sniffy Walks’ as we like to call them. The long leash lets your pup wander and explore without running off! Retractable leashes are good for… well, the trash can! 🚮They’re dangerous in many ways, so it’s best to just avoid them altogether. Make sure to follow us for more tips from fear-free certified dog trainers! #puppysupplies #dogtrainer #puppytraining101 #dogtraining #dogmom #dogdad
