As winter is upon us we recognize that inflation, corporate price gouging, natural disasters, and beyond have made our wallets feel a bit thin going into next year.

As a result we will NOT be raising or changing any of Vanzi’s breeding fees for 2025.

Not only that, but we will offer a 10% DISCOUNT to anyone who gets us a contract and deposit before the end of the year!!

Congratulations to the Cornell University Equine Park on their grand opening of their new today.

This is our breeding home away from home, only 35 minutes from home base at the Painted Bar Stables.

The new building is spectacular, modern and a fantastic mix of built for purpose and build for looks. The gorgeous stalls with their SoftStall flooring, weaning dividers, and heated auto waterers are phenomenal. The new stallion paddocks are spacious and secure. Even the layouts of the breeding stocks, wash areas and beyond are logical and well thought out. It’s also exciting to see the classrooms for students.

I was so wonderful to see so many in the community that have been a big part of our lives on the farm and personally: Dr. Divers, Dr. Knicklebien, Dr. Reesink and of course Dr. Donnelley.

We look forward to getting Vanzi to this facility even more for AI cooled semen shipments both nationally and abroad.

While a majority of Vanzi’s babies looks just like him, Grulla with lots of highlights, sometimes mom can really leave her mark.

Dahlwhinnie’s Scottish Bar is a tobiano palomino dun who looked incredibly similar to her tobiano red dun APHA mother, Double My Scotch. Scotch really replicated herself on this one, but it wasn’t a surprise!

Vanzi is homozygous for the dun gene, and Scotch carries it too - so there was never a question that we’d have bars and stripes!

Vanzi is heterozygous for black and red, and Scotch exclusively has red genes. As a result there was a 50% chance of a red base color (red dun or palomino dun) and a 50% chance of a black base color (grulla, smokey grulla, dun, or buckskin dun).

Vanzi is also heterozygous for cream genes, meaning that there’s a 50% chance he will dilute his foals. This is what gave Whinnie her palomino genetics.

And Scotch carries the tobiano paint gene and passed it on like a photocopier!

What color foal would you want?

20+ mile per hour winds, didn’t stop my first born experiencing his first ever ride. Not to mention all the cones and scary things flying all around. So proud of 4 year old Magneto, and the amazing brain he has! (All thanks to me 😉)

The Aurora Borealis came to Painted Bar Stables today and King Vanzi took in the view with us.

I find it fitting that his on-site offspring this year was named Aurora as it has been one of the most active Aurora Borealis seasons in our memory.

I mean, those horseflies hurt!!!

A funny text story from Ava H. today that made me laugh and I thought I would share:

Lunged Vanzi today - we did real easy stuff, just to get a feel where he’s at these days. Did everything I asked - absolute saint, until… horsefly 😱

A big one landed right on the top of his butt and the man panicked took off bucking 🤣 He then slipped in a puddle which dislodged the fly, and once he realized it was gone, he came right back to me looking all sheepish.

Went right back to work like nothing happened - I love him 🤣

The results are in! Vanzi’s latest foal is 100% clear from genetic diseases and is officially a SMOKEY GRULLA!

Basically: she’s perfect and awesome! And just like her dad (except only one copy of Dun gene!)

This little No Name is still unnamed with a name pending as we have someone who is very interested in buying her… and then keeping her at our farm for a long while. We would hate to deny them the honor of naming their horse and often if you don’t move them to a new location, the previous name sticks. So we are holding off with the naming process for now!

Vanzi went though “stud camp” at Cornell University and is now able to ship cooled fresh semen for AI!

As a result we will be accepting stud contracts for AI starting immediately!

Upon pick up, we received some of the most amazing compliments from the breeding staff at Cornell University. Multiple people thanked us individually for breeding such a well-behaved, well-mannered and calm stallion. They said that this is the type of stallion that makes horses that people can ACTUALLY ride!

The staff has bred horses ranging from high performing warmbloods to imported Icelandic horses and they said that the amazing offspring that are produced can be fabulous horses, but they often see them going to homes where people are over-horsed.

They said that world needs more foals that will become horses horse owners can actually work with, horses that have personalities that are quick studies and gentle souls - and that Vanzi is that kind of stud.

It was a huge complement.
