I mean, those horseflies hurt!!!

A funny text story from Ava H. today that made me laugh and I thought I would share:

Lunged Vanzi today - we did real easy stuff, just to get a feel where he’s at these days. Did everything I asked - absolute saint, until… horsefly 😱

A big one landed right on the top of his butt and the man panicked took off bucking 🤣 He then slipped in a puddle which dislodged the fly, and once he realized it was gone, he came right back to me looking all sheepish.

Went right back to work like nothing happened - I love him 🤣

The results are in! Vanzi’s latest foal is 100% clear from genetic diseases and is officially a SMOKEY GRULLA!

Basically: she’s perfect and awesome! And just like her dad (except only one copy of Dun gene!)

This little No Name is still unnamed with a name pending as we have someone who is very interested in buying her… and then keeping her at our farm for a long while. We would hate to deny them the honor of naming their horse and often if you don’t move them to a new location, the previous name sticks. So we are holding off with the naming process for now!

Vanzi went though “stud camp” at Cornell University and is now able to ship cooled fresh semen for AI!

As a result we will be accepting stud contracts for AI starting immediately!

Upon pick up, we received some of the most amazing compliments from the breeding staff at Cornell University. Multiple people thanked us individually for breeding such a well-behaved, well-mannered and calm stallion. They said that this is the type of stallion that makes horses that people can ACTUALLY ride!

The staff has bred horses ranging from high performing warmbloods to imported Icelandic horses and they said that the amazing offspring that are produced can be fabulous horses, but they often see them going to homes where people are over-horsed.

They said that world needs more foals that will become horses horse owners can actually work with, horses that have personalities that are quick studies and gentle souls - and that Vanzi is that kind of stud.

It was a huge complement.

ISO: Stable Hand for Full-Time Employment at Painted Bar Stables

Painted Bar Stables is a large and busy recreational horse farm in Burdett, NY. The stables is located just off of the Seneca Lake Wine Trail in the Finger Lakes Wine Country.

We are looking for a motivated individual to join the team to help care for our 40+ horses as we play host to over 3,000 riders and students a year.

Our farm hosts public trail riding, adult and youth lesson, boarding, distance/endurance riding and breeding programs. The facilities consist of a well groomed trail system, outdoor arena, small indoor arena, round pen, 35 box stalls, 10 tie stalls, 4 run-ins.

Our farm is home to a variety of horses of different ages, temperaments and training stages. Most of the horses on site are owned by the farm, but we also have a handful of boarded horses owned by others.

The ideal individual would have prior horse experience and be comfortable handling all types of horses, be self directed, and be willing to work in all weather conditions.

Job duties will include turn in/turn out, feeding hay and grain, managing hay and water trough levels in fields, monitoring horse’s health, basic veterinary first aid and basic barn and fence repair.

Additional income opportunities for stall cleaning shifts. There is potential for additional training, trail guiding and other opportunities for the right person.

Full Time Position
- $15/hour + shared tips
- Unlimited riding access and free riding lessons.
- Additional income opportunities available.
- PTO/Sick Time

Two options for chore shifts, must work weekends:
- 7 days a week 7:30-1:30 (42 hours)
- 5 days a week 7:30-11:30, 2:00-6:00 (40 hours)

Requirements:
- Must be 18+
- Able to lift and carry 60 lbs.
- Must have previous experience (formal or informal) working in a horse barn
- Must have reliable transportation -- no on site housing available at this time.
- Must be US Citizen or able to work legally in USA, no visa sponsorship
