Why should I microchip my pets?

1. One of the best ways to get your pet back is to have updated contact information on them.

2. Collars and ID tags can fall off and get lost. We highly recommend having your phone number and address on your pet's collar or harness.

3. Shelters are only legally required to keep animals for a few days before making them available for adoption.

4. Any Vet, rescue, or shelter can scan for a microchip.

Please share and give if you can. Every dollar helps.

HOOD RIVER ADOPT A DOG NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT TODAY.

Thanks to the diligent efforts of our staff and volunteers, our dogs are enjoying the best standards of care in our power as we work to get them back to their families, or to new forever homes. However, as everyone is aware, the costs of living and doing business have risen dramatically in the past few months. This starts with the cost of dog food and medical care, where even routine care has risen as much as 50% in the past year. This also includes ensuring we can pay enough to retain our great staff, and to help them live in our community.

Due to these rising costs, Hood River Adopt A Dog is facing an emergency situation - we only have enough cash on hand to operate for another 2 months. While we enjoy a good relationship with our partners at Hood River County, they do not and have never fully funded the cost of caring for our dogs in our community. We also do not receive any funding from federal, state, or local tax dollars. This is where you come in - we have depended on donations & grants from our community to operate since 2007, and now, we urgently NEED YOUR HELP.

In the next month, we need your support to raise $100,000 in operating funds. We are also asking at least 50 people to step up and join us as monthly donors, to allow us to sustainably operate now and for years to come. Here's how you can help us reach our goals:

- Provide a one-time donation or sign up to contribute monthly at https://donorbox.org/save-our-shelter
- Spread the word by sharing this post!
- Attend our Paws & Pints fundraiser at the Ruins on May 23rd - this is our biggest annual fundraiser, and matters more than ever this year. You can purchase tickets here: https://www.tickettomato.com/event/8696
- Consider adopting or fostering one of our great dogs!
- If you have significant time, resources, or local connections and want to help guide the future of our community's shelter, join our Board of Directors by reaching out to our president at [email protected].

Donate today, spread the word, visit our website at hoodriveradoptadog.org to learn more about us, and help us save our shelter so that we may continue our mission of helping dogs and families in our community.

8 things that our pets want us to know

If your pet could talk, these are the 8 things he or she would most want you to know. But since your dog or cat can't speak up, I'm going to give you a helping hand to better understand their fears, wants, frustrations, and needs.

Your pet’s best friend next to you

Offering a variety of unique services such as hotel stays, extended daytime stays, a hands-on descriptive personalized profile, as well as special occasion nanny, and on-call care (pregnancy, illness, post-surgery, caring for a loved one) in the beautiful Hood River Valley.

I have owned and cared for animals for most of my life at all stages of life from raising puppies, small caged animals and cats, to caring for birds and injured and elderly pets. I enjoyed hanging out on my Grandparent’s farm and would enjoy caring for small farm animals as well.

Growing up I wanted to be a Veterinarian, and always enjoyed spending time with animals. I began caring for the pets of family, friends, and neighbors at the age of 11 or 12 and as a professional provider in 2009.

I enjoy playing fetch with dogs, tossing string toys for cats, and caring for all little critters teaching them naturally as we go through our day. I believe we can learn a lot from them, too.
