Good morning! I guess many are wondering why I haven’t posted any daycare fun this week. On Tuesday I had a bad accident…daycare rotti plowed into me and I landed on him wrenching my back and knocking the wind out of me! Was so scary as I thought I wouldn’t be able to get up. I managed to manoeuvre myself to standing and walk back to the house wailing in pain! Of course I had to be at the back of our 1+ acre property! Called my husband to race home from work and then the ambulance. Spent 8 hrs in ER…nothing broken but definite muscle trauma. Last few days have been painful. I was told to only walk for about 5 minutes at a time till I start feeling better. So currently living in the recliner and missing all my furry clients so much!!

Hey How about you step up your game and actually do your job protecting animals? The people of Ontario are disappointed as hell over what transpired in Hamilton recently with two or more dogs dying at Kippen Care Services and you are doing nothing about it. Take a page from Alberta and do your freaking job!!

Hello friends!

The total solar eclipse is just around the corner, and just about everyone is ready to see the once in a lifetime event. We are seeing some mixed information about pet/wildlife safety.

Contrary to what some may read, the sun itself is not any more dangerous during the eclipse. The reason protective eye wear is recommended for humans (who wish to observe the eclipse) is because many of us will be staring directly at the sun that day, which is something we typically avoid.

For our pets, and outdoor wildlife, that day will be similar to any other day. Our pets don’t stare at the sun, so there is no need to keep them indoors on April 08 for any extended period of time. They may notice the change in temperature, but it is unlikely they will exhibit any unusual behaviour.

The eclipse can be more unsettling for birds. The dimming of the sky can mimic behaviour at dusk and during early storm formation, so some birds may demonstrate a wind-down behaviour and there may be less activity in the sky during the peak eclipse. Once the sky returns to normal, so does their behaviour.

Companion animals are more likely to be concerned about the humans acting differently than they are the eclipse itself. Dogs, cats, birds, etc. do not normally stare at the sun; they heed their natural reflexes not to look (unlike us curious humans). Avoid encouraging your pets to look at the eclips...
