Liberty Farms of Louisiana Liberty Farms is a small homestead farm breeding Kune Kune pigs and free range chickens. Kunes are very docile, affectionate and easy little pigs.

From the AKKPS page: One thing that sets KuneKunes apart is their wonderful temperament. When you rub a KuneKunes side, they will flop over for a belly rub. They are fantastic with chickens, ducks, goats, cats and dogs. Children are delighted to hear them “speak” to you” during feeding time. This is a breed that children can be trusted with! Even a full, intact breeding boar can be a chil

d’s best friend. When mothers are farrowing and raising their young, they do not usually get aggressive or mind children interacting with their young. It is a wonderful experience for children watching mother's farrow their offspring.

Move over Punxsutawney Phil! We have our own GROUND HOG! 🐷 Patty is our Liberty Farms of Louisiana porcine prognosticator. 💕

Patty reluctantly emerged from the hay pile this morning only with the promise of breakfast and saw her shadow promising 6 more weeks of winter. Patty replied, “Don’t yall know, Louisiana winter don’t even START till February.” You heard it here first folks!

What’s your “I WISH I KNEW” from when you started with Kunekunes?

I’ll start! I wish I knew how important good mentors were when I started out! I was fortunate that I found some wonderful long time breeders early on that let me pick their brain early!

AND

I wish I knew that sows could shake/shiver (some severely) after delivery. They aren’t necessarily cold. It’s residual contractions and the uterus tightening. Could have saved me a panicked message to those previously mentioned mentors.

We are about to schedule another processing date. With our pork program, you’re able to choose your own cuts, seasoning, and packaging size. Message us for more information.

Pork may be known as the other white meat, but kunekune pork is an exception! Kune Kune meat will have a deep color, marbled with fat. Because Kunekunes are a slow growing, grazing pig, the meat is tasty and nutritious. They produce excellent bacon, sausage, and flavorful roast.

There might be a Scurvy Elephant Farm in Florida; but there are no scurvy pigs around here.

We were given a large box of grapefruit for the animals. They had mixed reactions. Ellie loved them. Nellie squished the juice out and spit out the husk. Elvis WAS NOT a fan. 😝 But none went to waste!

The animals and farmers alike are thankful for donations of fruits and veggies!

Drop your farm, state, and what you raise/make/sell in the comments so other farms can see you!

If you are interested in trades, this is a great way to connect with farms near you! Totally swiped this post from because I love the idea so much. Lets make the farming community a little closer!

The week is almost BEHIND us. And man, I’m I ready for the weekend. The temperatures are supposed to be warmer. I need some outside time with the pigs to unplug and recharge. 🔌

We think a lot about keeping our pigs hydrated during the summer but cold weather hydration is equally as important.
During the winter when the pigs are cold, they aren’t as focused on drinking water either so it’s important to keep your pigs hydrated.
We use very warm water to soak the pigs alfalfa pellets when it’s cold out. This gives the pigs something warm to eat and helps them stay hydrated.
It’s especially important to keep water clean during winter. During the summer, the pigs feel thirsty much more so than during winter. And they are much less likely to drink if the water isn’t clean and fresh.

If you have to be outside, make sure you’re dressing warmly! 🥶 🧣

Pippi is getting a different kind of attention these days. She got A LOT of attention when we posted that she was available but unfortunately we never found just the right farm for her.

Now she’s got all the boars looking her way. I think we may breed her next cycle. 🩷
