Zemi Ragdoll-Cross A super sweet and naughty Ragdoll cross kitten.

Good morning from Schwartz!

As usual, when we first posted about this boy we received the usual responses of 'he looks fine', 'leave him be' and the classic 'cats will be cats'.

I doubt they'd be saying that if they'd seen how much flea dirt he had on him, from fleas sucking at his blood, or how many worms he carried, or indeed the nasty infected abcess on his cheek.

Wake up.

Cats will always do their best to appear big & strong - it's how they've survived for so long.

But in reality unowned cats are struggling.

Let's get them the help they so desperately need 🙏🤞😻

Get set, GLOW!

The Bay of Lights Illumination Trail starts tonight, transforming the English Riviera into a dazzling celebration of Christmas. 🎅

Explore 12 fantastic light installations as the 1.5-mile trail winds its way along Torquay's iconic waterfront. Starting from the Sparkling Snowflake at Abbey Park, through the Tunnel of lights, up and over the curly bridge, across the seafront promenade and end at Holly the Octopus by the harbourside.

These are my new friends babies.

The baby Ragdolls went in to Raddenstiles Veterinary Surgeons in Exmouth yesterday to finally get their first vaccine 🥳

This partnership will help our Exmouth kitten fosterers hugely, and as this kind-hearted practice has also offered to hold a food/supplies donation box in store, all our cats will benefit!

Thank you all! 😽 👏 💕

So.

The cold weather has arrived, and along with it, reports of stray cats galore.

Good people advertise them on social media, and our team of scanners, who monitor lost & found pages, offer to travel many, many miles to try and scan these cats.

And the Facebook responses?

"Leave it alone - it's just a cat"
"Cats wander"
"Looks well enough"
"Stop interfering"
"Feed it"
"Don't feed it"
"Doesn't look hungry"

And my personal pet hate (with a vengeance) :

"The cat has chosen you"

These comments are enough to put anyone off from bothering to advertise or even care.

It's unacceptable and cruel.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank anyone trying to help a cat at any time, but especially in this freezing weather.

The people that posted about the cats below deserve medals 🏅 🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅

This week, we have been overjoyed to help get 3 missing cats home:

Barney - 17 years old - missing for 3 days;

Socks - missing for nearly 2 years;

Raven - missing for 3.5 years!

All because of people doing the right thing.

Unfortunately only Barney's microchip had up-to-date details on his chip, meaning an awful lot of extra work was left for our volunteers to find the owners, but find them we did.

Cats can get lost for a variety of reasons - a stray cat is NOT yours to keep until you've made a determined effort to find a possible owner.

Feeding a stray cat is NOT enough.

Providing food and shelter is only appropriate when all efforts to find an owner have failed and you have put the cat on a waiting list with a rescue.

Once on a waiting list, remind the rescue regularly that the cat is still around.
Remind them again.
And again.

We're busy.
Very busy.
We forget.
We open an email, start responding, then our phones ring or some other important matter crops up and we forget.
I, in particular, forget an awful lot, and I'm extraordinarily lucky to have a team that check I've actually answered important emails 😳

Yes it's inefficient.
Yes it's disorganised.
Welcome to the world of cat rescue 🙄

If you are concerned about a cat possibly being a stray, send us a photo, paper-collar it and then we'll come and scan if approachable.

Let's get cats home where they belong!

Rant over 🤐
