Happy Dog Rescue was organized in 2003 by a small group of volunteers in Memphis, Tennessee to rescue dogs from local shelters and rehome them locally with loving families. Our group quickly grew to include volunteers across the Southeast from Arkansas to Georgia, rescuing dozens of dogs in their respective communities every week. Before long, adoption applications began to come in from families i

n MA, CT, NY and surrounding states, and the rest is history! Since 2003, more than 4,000 Happy Dogs have been rescued and adopted to deserving families in the Northeast. Happy Dog Rescue is dually headquartered in Memphis TN and White Plains NY. Volunteers in TN manage and organize the intake, vetting, and fostering of our rescue dogs, while volunteers in NY coordinate the adoption, transport and post adoption support for the dogs and their new families. Happy Dog Rescue is run solely by volunteers and is a shelterless organization so we have no building or phone. Our dogs live in private foster homes in the South until they are adopted and travel to their Forever Families in the Northeast.

Scout is doing so well and is such a sweetheart! He’s a snuggle bug and when he’s tired, loves to climb up and lay his head on one of our laps for a nap. He’s gotten big, eats well, and is pretty much house trained. He loves to go on hikes with us and play with our other dog, cat and our neighbor’s new black lab puppy. Arlo is doing amazing! He loves the water. He does laps in the pool and loves paddle boarding! He just graduated from puppy pre K-which he aced! Gracie was rescued a couple of months ago in East TN and the vet felt she’d been on her own awhile because she was sooooo thin! Gracie was fostered by volunteer Jeanne Duckworth who said she was just a sweetheart from the very beginning. Not surprisingly, Gracie was quickly adopted by a beagle-lover in PA who just sent a happy update.

Brandy made it to CT safe and sound! Initial intros went great with our other golden, Gibson! She’s been pretty tired since so there’s been more relaxing than playing. Zero accidents inside so far! Everything is going so well with Callie! She has been a dream come true since she's arrived. She is everything we could have asked/wanted as our third dog. She is sweet, gentle, receptive, and super easy to work with. Callie's transition was by far the easiest I could have ever expected. 7 years ago we adopted Zoey through your group. I can't believe 7 years have passed since we met the tractor trailer up in Rockland and saw our scared Zoey walk down the ramp. Her tail was between her legs, she was shaking. Well, 7 years later she is happy as can be. She brings us so much joy and love. Zoey loves our new grandsons and is so gentle and patient with them. Sophie arrived Saturday in Glastonbury CT scared but in good shape. She is fitting in just fine. She is a smart girl and we are going to get her some formal classes. She has been walked 1-3 miles every day this week and she loves it. Her foster mom Mary has been in contact with us daily as we three all became face book friends so she will see all our posts about Sophie. We adopted Ozark a year ago and he's doing great! Several of our cats still have an issue with him but he’s best friends with the others. He LOVES to be outside and run. He doesn't like the water; I’ve taken him on several hikes and it’s funny to watch him figure out a way to avoid the muddy spots. He loves to be around people and he loves our other dog.
