Starting March 31st! Therapy Dog Prep Class! Find out more information and sign up at: https://specialtypettraining.com/classschedule/

This 5 week class includes:
1. Learning about different therapy dog organizations, how to decide if your dog would be a good therapy dog, and how to decide where to volunteer with your dog

2. You will learn how to perform safely as a therapy dog team in facilities

3. Polite greetings

4. Loose leash walking with distractions.

5. Training your dog to politely greet people using assistance devices (wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes).

6. Improving focus around distractions such as food and noises.

The option to take the CGC test during our last class.

Therapy dogs are different from service dogs. “A service dog is a dog that has been trained to perform specific tasks to assist a person with a disability,” says Dr. Mary R. Burch, a certified applied animal behaviorist and AKC Family Dog director. “A therapy dog is a dog who volunteers with their pet parent to provide comfort and support to people in settings such as schools, hospitals and assisted living facilities.”
