Flash was adopted back in March '24, but her current owner is no longer in a position to keep her 😔

Flash would appreciate company, so if anyone already has a pig and is looking for a companion for her him/her, please consider adopting Flash. She is both spayed and chipped.

Hi everyone!

We wanted to give a small update regarding our situation. As most people know, Sunshine Animal Sanctuary was created with the intention of giving farm animals a second chance and take in any abandoned or unwanted farm animals, such as rabbits, chicken, ducks etc.

Unfortunately, we no longer have a physical premise for our sanctuary, which makes our rescue mission practically impossible. Which is why unfortunately we are no longer in a position to rescue or assist with duck, chicken or pigs rescues. The only animals that we are helping at the moment are rabbits, which are being kept inside the private residence of one of the Sunshine members.

Meet Darcy, a sweet Californian bunny who was picked up by Animal Welfare 🐰

Darcy was riddled with fleas, ticks, earmites and had bad mange. She was also very dehydrated.

25 days later, she looks like a completely different rabbit! Her ears are up (no more earmites), mange has cleared (compare her feet in the pics) and she's full of life and energy!

Despite not having a premises anymore, we are still doing our best to help who we can.

We wanted to give you all an update on the status of Sunshine and what we've been up to since having no physical sanctuary from November last year.

One of our members, Chiara, has been taking in rescue rabbits along with other caring individuals who have offered to foster until the rabbits are rehomed. The number of dumped rabbits on this island is not decreasing, and it is shocking how many we come to hear about.

Thank you to those who open your hearts and homes to these sweet and innocent souls whose lives were considered so worthless that they were thrown out and left to fend for themselves (photos show rescued rabbits in recent months).

We have also been setting up adoptions as much as we can, not only for rabbits but other animals who need rehoming who we come to hear about.

We are pleased to tell you that another sanctuary for animals is currently being set up which we are soon to be a part of. Manna Rescues already cares for dogs, chickens and our very own gorgeous piggies, Trixiebell and Sergeant. With time, this wonderful place will be able to take in even more neglected animals around Malta, including rabbits.

** Update on Leila 🐽!!! **

Today Leila arrived at her new home 🏡

We would like to say thank you to Leila's previous guardian who took her in when there was nowhere for her to go.

Our backs were against the wall as we had rescued 15 starving pigs from horrible conditions in Mellieħa and the authorities had given us a deadline to home them before sending them to the abattoir. This kind-hearted lady got in touch with us and offered Leila a loving home in her back garden where she'd been living for the past 6 years. Thank you for giving Leila this chance, and for naming her after one of us. I've always considered it an honour to share my name with a pig as beautiful as her! 💗

We would also like to say a huge thank you to Katherine Portelli at Animal Kingdom who came to sedate Leila and trim her hooves 🙏🏼

And last but not least, to Leila's new guardian who has given her a loving home where she will receive lots of love and care x ❤️ x

**Update on Leila the pig**

We have had an overwhelming response from people wishing to adopt Leila since we made a post about her yesterday.

Keeping up with msgs takes time, esp considering that we are the middleman so to speak, as Leila isn't with us. Therefore we need to pass all info onto her current owner, and once she has decided on the best home, arrange sedation with a vet, numerous people to carry her, a van to transport her etc.

These things take time, so please bear with us. Moreover, we also know of other pigs looking for a home, so will try to take this opportunity to arrange as many piggy adoptions as we can.

**URGENT!!!!**

Leila the pig is in desperate need of a new home ASAP. Her owner can no longer care for her due to a serious back injury.

Leila is spayed, chipped and used to humans. We will organise transportation to get her to you.

Those interested in adopting Leila must have a suitable space which is secure, sheltered and with soil.

Please contact us if you can offer this sweet pig the loving home she deserves.
