🥭🧡Mango DESPERATELY needs a foster and rescue and/or transport. 🧡🥭Stats on this beautiful girl: 9-10 months old. Adopted as a puppy from SPCA then dumped. HW-. Fully vetted and spayed. Great with other dogs. High energy. She loves to play with her toys and “talk” to them. She knows “sit” and “no” and is house broken. Being in a kennel isn’t her favorite thing so if she can’t see her people she does fuss for a bit. She would be great with an active family with kids and dogs or a single person looking for a snuggle and running buddy. Currently living in my garage as my fossil dogs don’t appreciate her puppyish antics. 😢 Located in Houston, Texas. Transport can be arranged for approved adopter or rescue.

This is wonderful news!!

We have some wonder news about Angel. She will be heading to COLORADO for a foster-to-adopt opportunity!

One of Angel’s followers shared a post about her a couple of weeks ago and a Facebook friend saw it and her heart was instantly interested and reached out to us.
Her family already has one large deaf dog who was lucky enough to join their family a year ago and they have been talking about adding another special needs dog, deaf or blind, to their family.

Angel, being deaf and with some vision impairment, we have vetted seriously each inquiry of those interested in adopting her. This wonderful family has checked off each box necessary to move forward.

We are looking at transport dates in early April. Maurice Gassiott, Angel’s trainer, will be making the trip to Colorado for her transition.

As you can imagine, our hearts are hopeful for Angel and this sweet family, who have already opened their hearts to one special needs pooch and willing to add another.

This is a testimony that SHARING Facebook post does help to network. You never know what eyes and heart the post will land upon.

We will keep everyone updated and share details as they unfold.
(April can’t get here soon enough!)💓

Angel is a dog we have helped network here! Fingers crossed for some good news!

Angel dog has been a “Nobody’s Dog” for almost two years.

She has been failed by her original owners, failed by trainers who didn’t understand a scared deaf dog, failed by a rescue who promised networking but delivered empty promises and now she sits in a kennel as Nobody’s Dog.

Angel has NO rescue backing. NO shelter backing. NO foster home. The only people helping to network Angel to keep her alive are independent advocates.

Her boarding fee for this month is due now. The facility is charging $15 a day.

Please consider contributing $15 to cover a days boarding, or more if you can. There is a GoFundMe post on Angel’s page.

I’m Angel and mes a guud girl. I’m deaf & vision impaired and mes lookin fur sumbody to love and adopt mes. I’m a “Nobody’s Dog.” My first peoples gave up on mes and tied me up alone at a construction sight. I chewed through my ropes and chain and ran for safety. A nice person rescued me and took me to another nice ladies house to help me. This lady has tried fur almost two years to find mes a home, but nothing works out fur mes. Sometimes I gets barkie because I’m scared. Once I feels safe, I’m a funny and goofy girl who’s just looking fur love and a furever home. I knows the “sit” hand signal and will shake your hand. I even knows how to open a door. I loves to go to that fancy coffee place, Starbucks, and have mes a Puppywhip! I hear the rescue community say it takes a village.....I hopes to find that village and my own home before my time runs out. Excellent information!

Excellent information!

Just a thought of the day I felt compelled to share..

Working in veterinary medicine is where I single handedly see the most dog to dog mishaps with the general public due to simply lacking knowledge on dog behavior, and lack of respect for both their own dog and other dog’s space. Let me play it out for you, of what I see, all too often. Owner has their dog in the waiting room on a loose, long leash. The Dog is free to roam within a 6 ft radius. Another dog and its owner attempt to come in the doors, only to be blocked and greeted nose to nose by the uncontrolled dog, now tense on his leash, pulling and eager to meet. Its owner speaks out, “oh it’s okay! I’ve got him, and he’s friendly☺️” Here is where I step in to politely ask the owner to keep her dog close to her, only to get a response of “he’s fine, he’s wagging his tail!” 🤦🏼‍♀️ Little do they know, I see something else, way more complex, far beyond their assumptions.

Education and knowledge is power. Especially when you are dealing with an animal that you are supposed to mentor and guide for its lifetime, to ensure stability, confidence, and respect. In my professional and outright personal opinion, never is it okay to:
1) Allow your dog to greet another dog nose to nose on a tense leash
*A dog greeted head on is generally very rude, intrusive, and unnatural in the dog world, and can create conflict right from the get go. Any dog can take this posture as threatening, and begin defensive aggressive behavior. To make matters worse, a tense leash can build the energy in a dog to produce reactive behavior due to space constraints. If you must introduce dogs on leash, it is better to allow them to greet side by side on a LOOSE leash, and relax!

2) Assume that a wagging tail is a happy dog wanting to interact
* A dog will wag its tail for a multitude of emotions. It is VITAL to understand what your dog is saying by it’s tail wag. Based on tail position and speed will indicate how the dog is feeling. For example, A low, fast wag can generally indicate nervous energy, or insecurity, which has potential to cause a fear aggressive response. A high, stiff wag can mean over-arousal/over-stimulation or intent of ready to spring into action. The dog will make lousy choices in this state of mind and make it more difficult to control should they “rev-up” more. A medial, soft & loose wag is generally universal for a happy dog. Get to know your wags!

3) Assume the other dog is just as “friendly” as yours
* Not all dogs are dog friendly. This should be obvious knowledge. Just because your dog is friendly does not mean the other is, too. They could be undersocialized, have social insecurities, or just be dog aggressive. Give other dogs space, please.

4) Allow your dog to interact with other dogs in a veterinary office waiting room
* Dogs often come into the vet office already stressed. It is generally not a place of pleasure as the dog is usually being shuffled into a tight room, being held by strangers only to be poked and prodded at. The smell of other ill dogs or even death is in the air which makes a dog uneasy. Most owners are often nervous FOR their dog during a vet visit so their energy does not help the dog, either. There may be the the smell of cats in the room, stress pheremones, and urine markings from other dogs. Dogs come in not feeling well, or maybe have arthritis, or painful from an injury. They may be recovering from a surgery. Or coming in to be put down due to old age or chronic illness. Now tell me why this sounds like a good spot to “play”?!

We all go to the vet with our dogs. Please make your next visit pleasurable for everyone!

URGENT FOSTER NEEDED!!!!

This is Dan, an 8 year old Boxer who was found on the streets of Texas. He has weak hind legs though he does have some sensation back there. He is also heart worm positive. He is dog friendly and such a good looking boy! We would like to help him, but we need a committed foster in order to do so. If you can foster Dan, please fill out an application at www.hobocare.org/foster ASAP. Thanks and please share!

Hyperarousal is another sign of stress.

If you don't understand these behaviors, your dog will suffer a less than optimal life. Punishing these behaviors can cause more stress which could lead to aggression.

Thanks again, to the Vet Behavior Team for creating this awesome educational info-graph.

Many people, think that training and high exercise is the best way to work this out of a dog and I couldn't disagree more. Less exercise, short training sessions and A LOT of rest keeping the dog below threshold will do a dog with these behaviors a world of good, enabling them to learn much better.

Making rest, gentle touch/massage, a priority in the bulk of their day will bring them much farther along in becoming more balanced and confident.

Excellent read! SHARE this to help others who might need this...

A common mistake dog owners make is repeatedly taking the food bowl away at meal times. This is an old myth of how to prevent resource guarding, when in actuality it teaches your dog that people can’t be trusted near their food. (I know there will be people who say they did this with their dog and it was fine. That’s great, but we can’t use the exception to prove the rule.)

If you want a food-friendly dog, walk up to their dish while eating and drop in something of high value, such as a piece of cheese. Whatever you add should be better than his kibble. This will teach him that when people come near food, something nice happens. *This procedure is ONLY for dogs who are NOT yet food aggressive or a resource guarder*

Think about this from a human perspective…If you were eating at a restaurant and every time the waiter comes by he takes your plate away and interrupts your meal. This will get annoying real fast. Whereas if every time the waiter comes by, he tops off your drinks and gives you a complimentary dessert. It’s pretty evident which waitering style you would prefer, and your dog feels the same way about your training approach.

For those who have adopted a rescue dog (or cat), this is so helpful.

Based on a true story....

Adopter Tip: Give your new dog time to adjust!

Moving so much can be very confusing. I went from a shelter to a foster home to an adopter home. I was adopted to a home with two human kids. When my Foster Mom dropped me off, I was scared and confused, I didn’t want to play with my new children. One of them even said she was disappointed with her new pet, because I didn’t want to play. My Foster Mom had told them I was playful and fun……..was Foster Mom a liar?

I missed my Foster Mom, why did she leave me here with strangers, where was I going to sleep, would they feed me here, where do I potty, oh no…….. where is the door, what if I make a potty mistake because I can’t find the door to outside, will they hit me or yell at me?????………..all these thoughts run through my little canine mind.

But my new adopted Dad explained it well, he said to the children “what if we dropped you off at a stranger’s house and drove off, how would you feel?” Scared! Doggies get scared too, just like little children. Good thing, my new Dad was wise.

In about 2 weeks I was happy and my normal playful fun self again, I learned where the door was, and that they play with me and love me and feed me just like my Foster Mom did. It just took a little time for me to understand the new routine.

Moral of my story...Give your pet the time they need to adjust to a new home. We might not show our true personalities right away, but in time we will settle and become part of your family.

WHO’S LOOKING FOR A RUNNING PARTNER?!?!🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏼‍♂️💝🐕

Many of you know the story of sweet NIMBLE and have watched as she has healed and learned to love life!

What was the timetable to rehab a dog who was broken in spirit and had been badly abused?
There. Was. None.

Sweet NIMBLE has been in foster care for almost a year and has come far in learning to “dog” and trust humans. She learned this from a well rounded pack of pooches from her foster family and a foster mom who allowed her to heal on her own timetable.

NIMBLE will never be that Alfa female, robust and type A personality. She is gentle in spirit, easily gets along with other dogs, cats and children and does look to her foster mom for guidance and leadership. NIMBLE likes to be around others, but, in a quiet way.

As you can see, NIMBLE loves to run! And run! And run! And run!!

NIMBLE will do best in a home with another dog or two, with at least one of the doggers who will be her leader or what is often called, a “navigator” dog. A pooch she can play with and look up to. It doesn’t have to be another big dog, just a steady dog with confidence.

Sweet NIMBLE truly wants a family of her own.

✳️ 2-3 yrs old
✳️ Spayed
✳️ Chipped
✳️ Up To Date On Shots
✳️ Heartworm Negative

✳️ Kid Friendly

NIMBLE is currently being fostered in Houston. If needed, transport can easily be arraigned for approved adopters.

Yes! Yes! Yes! We do love our DOGS and want to network them, however, on occasion, the rulers of the kingdom, CATS, need our help too. 😉

We are doing a courtesy post for these kitties and their mama. The foster has done an amazing job being their advocate.

They are currently located in Pueblo, Colorado. For an approved adopter, transport can be arranged.
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️

FROM THE FINDER:
I have 5 kittens and Momma who need homes. They are all spayed/neutered and are current on vaccinations. They are about 10 weeks so they are not old enough for rabies yet. Momma cat is about 2 and is spayed with current vaccinations, including rabies. They are fine with dogs and cats. These are indoor only cats. A homecheck and contract will be required. $20 adoption fee and $75 if transport is needed. There are 3 female and 2 male kittens. The 2nd to last pic shows the 2 males. If you know of a rescue willing to take them all, please let me know.

Didn’t someone say “SAVE THE BEST FOR LAST”? According to MARY’S foster family, MARY is the sweetest of Juno’s pups and a definite lap pooch. MARY is the last remaining pup from Juno.

A little back story on Mama Juno and her pups ~ Mama Juno had a rough life in Houston and was eventually picked up by Animal Control. She was in the shelter, full term pregnant and put on the euthanized list. Fortunately, Juno was pulled at the last minute and we found a short term foster for her.

On Valentine’s Day💘, Juno gave birth to five little nuggets 🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐕. A few weeks later, Juno and her pups were transported to Colorado 🚙 and have been in a wonderful foster family who have loved and taken care of them so well! At this point, all the pups have been adopted except MARY.

So.....WHO IS READY for an adorable lap pooch with lots of love to give?!?! 😍

Sweet MARY is a Corgi mix and will probably max out at 20 lbs.

Adorable pictures and videos on MARY’S journey can be found at JUNO & HER MIGHTY PUPS.

Message us for more information and/or if you’re interested in a meet-n-greet or adopting MARY!

MARY is being fostered in Monument, Co.

Look at NIMBLE go!!

For those who have followed NIMBLE’S story, I know this will make your heart happy.
To see a gentle dog who was so broken in spirit she was too fearful to walk, to one who is now splashing in the water with JOY in her heart!💝

Rehabbing a dog with such a broken and tragic past takes time. There’s not a 12 Step program to do so. You have to listen to the dog and do “What’s Best For Dog.”

Fortunately, I have what I call my “navigator” dog, Sunny, and she has rehabbed many broken dogs. When NIMBLE came to my home and eventually met my pack, Sunny took her under her wings and instinctively knew what to do.

After four months of Sunny guiding NIMBLE, interestingly, my foster mama dog, Cinnamon, after her pups were adopted out, became NIMBLE’S navigator dog. This, going on five months now.

Both dogs, Sunny and Cinnamon, have been a huge part in NIMBLE’S recovery. Some people may think nine months is a long time, but, one must realize the brokenness the dog came from and allow them time to heal as best as they can.

NIMBLE will likely always be a little shy around new people and places. She has settled into a comfortable routine in my home and the same can be done for her future forever family.

NIMBLE has come a long, long way! She is now looking for her special forever family. A family who will continue to guide her into the joys of life.

NIMBLE is:

✅ Female
✅ 2-3 Yrs Old
✅ Spayed
✅ Up To Date On Shots
✅ Chipped
✅ Heartworm Negative
✅ Good With Dogs
✅ Good With Cats
✅ Good With Children
✅ Potty Trained

Will you or someone you know be willing to offer this sweet girl a safe and loving forever home?

If you or someone you know would be interested in adopting NIMBLE, please message us!

You can always help NIMBLE by SHARING this post far and wide!!🐶🐾🏡💝

Can we say AWESOME!?

These adorable nuggets, Mary & Paul, are a bundle of joy and ready for their forever homes! Two of their siblings have just landed wonderful homes, now it’s their turn.

Mary and Paul are both ready to bring s***k and love to your home! Their little stubby legs and kisses will melt your heart 💕. Mama Juno is a Corgi Mix and daddy is a mystery man. Our guess is Mary and Paul will grow to be the size of mama. They are up-to-date on shots, healthy, and ready to go!!

Mama Juno and pups are temporarily being fostered in Monument, Colorado and a meet and greet and sleepover can easily be arranged.

You can help these two little nuggets by spreading the word with friends, family and co-workers.

UPDATE: THANK YOU for the many SHARES! Mr Kitty has left his temporary foster home and has arrived in Colorado at his new and AMAZING and EXPERIENCED foster home!
THANK YOU Alice Brunette for stepping up and helping this sweet boy ~ you ROCK!!🐾💙🐾 ~

Meet Mr Kitty.

He is not a dog disguised as a kitty, rather, he’s a sweet boy who is NOBODY’S KITTY and ~ He. Needs. Your. Help! He has no rescue backing and is currently short term fostering in a private home.

He’s a cool kitty who is now fully vetted and ready to bring some awesomeness to a home. 🏡 ✅ Shots
✅ Chipped
✅ Neutered 🌀 Male
🌀 1 Yr Old
🌀 Super Friendly
🐶 Very Dog Friendly

FROM HIS FOSTER:

The night I picked this boy up, he didn’t make a peep in his crate on the way home. That night I spent two hours flea combing him and got over one hundred fleas off him. He would turn side to side for me and even let me comb his belly and legs. At NO point did I ever see his claws and he wasn’t bitey at all. He was a perfect gentleman! As a matter of fact, at the vets office the next morning I doubled checked to make sure he even had claws.
While at the vets, he hung out in the examining room like it was his favorite place and he was totally relaxed. This dude was an awesome patient!
My vet was able to fit him in for a neuter that day and he has since recovered perfectly.
The only downside to his vetting is he’s FIV positive😔. Definitely not a death sentence and he can live a long life, but this does narrow the choice of home he can go to. • He’ll need to be an INSIDE ONLY cat. • NO doggie/kitty doors. • A home with NO other cats ~ dogs totally good 🐶✔️ He hears and has seen my dogs and is totally NOT IMPRESSED. Not afraid at all, so he appears to be good with dogs.
He is totally chill, and at the same time, very personable. He just purrs and purrs and purrs.
I have cats, plus a doggie and kitty door and can’t foster him long term. ********************** Mr Kitty is fostering in the Houston area. For an approved foster or adopter, transport can easily be arranged.

Quora

“Taking in an animal as a family member is an act of trust. It is an act of trust on THEIR part.”

"Then, right after midnight or so, it happened. I have never experienced this in an animal and hope never in my lifetime to ever live through this again."

13/01/2018

* We are sharing A Memory of what got this all started.....

On this day, one year ago, a dearly beloved animal transport driver from Houston, Tx was killed in a tragic van accident in Colorado. In addition, despite all dogs surviving the major crash, four dogs escaped their crushed crates and were lost in the Colorado wilderness.

Upon word of this accident, a group of animal rescue volunteers banded together from Colorado to Texas in search of these lost dogs. It took 22 days to safely recover ALL four dogs, but, WE DID IT!

During those long days and nights of non-stop searching, lifetime friendships were formed. And, from these friendships, a desire to help dogs who were caught in the middle and had no true advocate, emerged ~ NOBODYS DOGS!

In the next couple of weeks we will be sharing post about THE SEARCH and the foundation of NOBODYS DOGS.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Pueblo Lost Pet Alert, SoCO Spay/Neuter and Adoption Clinic, and ALL For Paws Outreach are looking for volunteers to help with the search and rescue of 3 dogs, missing from a crash involving a rescue transport. We are asking volunteers to meet at 8 am tomorrow at Max's Place, located at 6675 Colorado City, Co 81004. We will discuss necessary information at this location and then disperse to search. Please be sure to attend the meet-up if you intend to help.
