Got out of bed early this morning and crept quietly down the stairs, trying not to wake hubby.

Started the morning routine and turned around to find this little tot (she's staying but we're still debating a name) had crawled out of a nice warm bed and followed me all the way downstairs and set herself up on the couch, waiting for my attention. As though I didn't already love her to the moon and back, that just made my heart explode all over again. :)

This is what it is always like trying to get photos or videos of a particular baby. :)

Everybody is so interactive that there are a ton of photobombers. :) And unless they are sleepy, the babies are usually too busy and happy to hold still. :)

Our Crew

Our love affair with purebred dogs started with Sadie, our rescue Chihuahua. She came in to the clinic on one of the rescue days and the other techs were busy with various tasks. She was tiny, shaking, and just seemed overwhelmed.

Frankly, I didn’t like little dogs at that point in my life. Never had. But I had free time and no one else did...and I was not immune. I found myself pulling her from her cage and sitting with her in my lap. She immediately stopped shaking and set herself the task of grooming me. From elbow to finger tip. Over. And over. And over. Once she was in my lap, she didn’t need any more reassurance. From there on, it was all about her trying to take care of me.

By the end of my day there, I was desperate to bring her home. My vet called the rescue director that night and pulled some strings since she was slated for transfer to a specialized rescue in a different state. I went back for her the next day and had her named before I even got home - VERY unusual for me. :)

My husband was unsure about adding a Chihuahua. We’d always had “mixed breed” rescue dogs. In fact, our experiences with mixed breed dogs had pretty much convinced us we were cat people only and dogs weren’t our thing. As neither of us had ever been a fan of small dogs, he really wasn’t at all sure about adding a “small yap dog” to the house. But it was almost my birthday and I had won the “discussion.”
