Souhegan Kennel Club Obedience/Rally shows will be held on October 13th, 14th and 15th at American K9 Country in Amherst, NH.

A reminder that Wednesday, August 23, 2023, entries for the Souhegan Kennel Club, Inc. shows on September 9-10, 2023, will be closing at 12:00 noon EDT. The shows are located in Nashua, NH less than ten miles from the Massachusetts border at the Nashua Community College. There is abundant free parking, limited reserved, and RV parking. We have a grooming tent available for exhibitor use. There is free coffee, tea, and breakfast bites each morning along with tea, lemonade, and cookies during the groups. We offer relaxed, friendly shows with an old fashion dog show flavor. Hope that many of you will join us and if you have questions you can email [email protected]. I will be stewarding in Springfield from this Thursday through Sunday for those of you that have not sent your reserved parking or RV reservations yet. I'll have a supply of the forms on hand.

Adopting a dog from a rescue
Be aware the dog MUST come with a veterinarian issued health certificate unless the dog comes from a NH licensed shelter (nh licensed shelters are exempt from health certificates)
If dog crosses the state line to get to you it must come with a veterinarian issued health certificate
If dog crosses state line to get to a nh licensed rescue before it comes to you it must be quarantined briefly and have a new health certificate issued by a NH state licensed vet
A health certificate must be issued by a licensed veterinarian with clear contact info on it. The health certificate must state that the pet is FREE OF communicable diseases AND internal and external parasites.
If your puppy breaks with a contagious illness or internal parasites within a week of adoption you need to notify both the rescue group and the NH state veterinarian
Rescue groups that are finalizing adoptions in NH must be licensed by the state of NH

Jamie Gendron and Big Al's is the new food vendor at our shows, as the Main Dish's business fell victim to the COVID economy. Jamie will be on site with hamburgers, hot dogs, two varieties of Italian sausage, as well as serving coffee and breakfast sandwiches in the morning. He's bring his fresh lemonade cart as well. I'm making a personal endorsement for the sweet Italian sausage.

This bill classifies the following items as animal fighting paraphernalia, but it is not limited to: breaking sticks, cat mills, fighting pits, springpoles, unprescribed veterinary medicine, treatment supplies, gaffs or slashers or heels, or any other sharp implement designed to be attached in place of the natural spur of a c**k or game fowl. The intent behind the possession, ownership, purchase, sale, transfer, or manufacturing of these items is presumed to be for animal fighting it is a class B felony.

This bill adds a preliminary hearing within 14 days of the lawful seizure of animals, outlines that cost of care is to provide confiscated animals with humane care and adequate and necessary veterinary services. It also adds language to prevent ownership for varying lengths of time for those convicted of a misdemeanor, among other changes.

This bill would establish a cost of care fund to assist municipalities with caring for animals during animal cruelty cases. Revenue to the fund would be from $0.50 of every dog license fee paid, one-half of the fees collected from registration for distribution of commercial animal feed, and court-ordered restitution for care in animal cruelty cases.
