I STRUGGLE with depression and anxiety. Since I was young I have avoided doing scary or difficult things because of fear, fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of success even. But I always knew that no matter what, I need to get up. I NEED to get up. Get out of bed, don’t lay around feeling sorry for yourself Micki, don’t avoid the day. Just get up. Over and over.

Dogs have always been there to remind me that s**t needs to get done and nobody is going to get up and do it for me. If I didn’t have them by my side, I’m not sure where I’d be or even if I would still be here.

I love dogs. They have loved me. I owe them my best, every day. I fall short a lot but I still get up.

This video probably seems, simple, beginner, basic even. Wow, you are luring a dog onto an elevated bed with cheese in your hand. But the truth is it’s months of building trust with such a flighty and fearful dog. Terrified of cars, scared of new situations always looking to BOLT right back to wherever he just came from whether it’s the nearest car or house.

So today when I look at this video of him, voluntarily doing something I asked while being able to hold himself there as I take a step back is huge for us. With the front door open, I can hear the cars he’s so fearful of driving by and so can he but he’s willing to trust me enough to just be in it.

He is a family favorite here He absolutely loves my children and fits in so well with the entire pack.
