Harvested a small batch of goldenrod today & made a tincture with everclear grain alcohol.

Goldenrod (solidago canadensis or solidago virgaurea) is the kinda ally mother gives us in the late summer to early fall for our respiratory health & for keeping liver & kidneys clear. She is anti inflammatory too.

She can be made into soaps, salves, oil infusions, & tea.

Ya majesty “Dragon” has settled on her throne. Most dragon fruit plants are sold with reinforcements to be upright. It’s helpful for her to hang at ease, to find her own succulent way. She’s a drought tolerant Babe who will produce gorgeous flowers that will turn into the infamous dragon fruit. Welcome home love. We’re so happy to learn about you.

Because of today I became a fig expert. Ok, maaaaaybe I’m not an expert, however, instead of planting directly in the ground I chose a pot after discovering their tenacity against drought, (great for us Texas folx), their fruiting season, need for sun & food, & how to keep them happy year round.

This is Malabar Spinach an edible perennial vine in the family Basellaceae that grows in moist tropic lowlands & hot places (like Austin, Texas).Malabar will propagate & transplant easily once ground is clear of frost & cold.

Greens are such a great winter weather crop. An abundant harvest before the water freezes.

We cover crops with hay or wool blankets during winter storms. The upcoming one is supposed to be epic. We shall see Texas weather, we shall see.

Amaranthus hypochondriacus was found in some 1500 year old deposits in southern Mexico at Tehuacan.

We have loved growing for families & friends this year. We love sharing this soluble and sustainable nutrition called microgreens aka “plant medicine”.

In coming to experience that “you aren’t what you eat, you are what you absorb” the feedback we’ve received speaks for itself. From the participants who have done this health experiment all year round to the ones who are embarking with this fun and playful food, we salute you. 🥂

So Alice would you like to eat from a bigger clutch or a smaller clutch? My first harvest happened just a few minutes ago. Her texture is so silky & tender. I’m learning how to work with her energy potentials — to render different sized yields. This photo depicts what’s called a “clutch” of mushrooms.

2nd & 3rd harvests: Pea shoots are an amazing crop for that & more.
Peas have integrity so they store for up to two weeks after harvest.
It’s the rotor rooter vegetable & cleans out dem guts.
They wilt like spinach & when sautéed can make a great pasta substitute or base for your meal.
Very easy to grow at home indoors.
The leftover roots & soil merge nicely back into the compost for nutrient dense soil.
