My name is Toby and I’m looking for a home with laps to sit on, other cats to play with, and blankets to knead!

I’m a 9-month-old Siamese mix who is ready to cuddle my way into your heart. I’m feeling great these days after the vet removed 14 teeth because I had stomatitis, which causes gum inflammation. I know that sounds drastic, but I can still enjoy both wet and dry food.

I can be a little cautious until I get to know new people, but I love pets and some lap time. I love the other cats in my foster home and would love to be in a home where I could make some new kitty friends. Or doggie friends! I like dogs, too!

Here’s how you can adopt me! https://www.petfinder.com/cat/toby-73432160/md/annapolis/cats-r-us-inc-md23/

Cats R Us does not accept owner surrendered pets. Our partner, Anne Arundel SPCA, takes on this role in our cat rescue community. They are considered a no-kill shelter based on their 90%+ save rate.

You can call me Teddy — as in Roosevelt!

I think it suits me just fine.

Mickey’s story is one of love and resilience — and the unique joy senior and special needs cats bring, if only they’re given a chance.

This sweet old man was the first cat CRU Board President Chrissie Flury rescued as a volunteer. She says Mickey forever changed her life.

Mickey’s journey began with a post on the Anne Arundel County Pets page back in early 2022, when someone spotted him injured and crying in a yard.

“Determined to help, I drove all over Ferndale until I finally found him. The property owners confirmed he wasn’t theirs but shared that he had been fed as part of a nearby community cat colony. Unfortunately, the colony’s caregiver had recently moved or passed away, leaving Mickey to fend for himself,” Chrissie says.

Covered in urine, f***s, and painful ulcers, Mickey was in desperate need of help. The property owners worried Animal Control might euthanize him, believing his back was broken.

“Despite their concerns, I knew I couldn’t leave him behind,” recalls Chrissie.

Her local vet, Animal Hospital at Southgate, estimated that he was between 12 and 15 years old and discovered Mickey’s tail had fused after a severe pull injury and that he had previously undergone perineal urethrostomy surgery. At some point, someone had cared enough to give him a chance.

“Mickey had many challenges—special food, daily bladder expression, and needing diapers—but his heart was pure gold,” Chrissie says. “Initially, another long time CRU volunteer cleaned him up and fostered him, but he came to live with me in February when she could no longer keep him. While we tried to find him a home, his complex needs made it difficult, and eventually, we realized he was already home with us. Mickey became my best friend, his love and trust growing with each passing day.

“Despite more surgeries, including redoing his urethrostomy and cropping his tail for hygiene, Mickey remained brave and loving. He slept by my side every night, and I miss his presence daily."

Mickey passed away in October 2024.

“Mickey will always be missed and loved.”

Peaches and Daisy (formerly Fergie!) enjoying themselves in their new home!

Their mom says Daisy likes to go on top of the bathroom sink and capture her prey, a Q-tip! Peaches has come out of her shell and is a love bug.

We’re so happy for them!

Hi CRU friends! I was recently rescued from the same outdoor colony my friend Buddy the Elf was rescued from. I’m a male tabby with whiskers for days, and I love people. But my caretakers don’t know what to call me!

Can you help me decide on a name?

Comment with your suggestions below! 😻

Hi everyone! Buddy the Elf here again to update you on my progress! I’m continuing to improve and am so grateful to everyone who donated to my medical care.

I also wanted to remind you that you have just a few days left to donate through the federal government’s Combined Federal Campaign! CRU uses the funds we get through the CFC to help cats in need, like me.

The deadline to donate is Wednesday, January 15. Use the CFC code 23545. Please share with any federal workers you know!

As the days grow cooler, PLEASE don't forget to bang on the hood and honk the horn before starting your car to make sure none of our furry friends are hanging around INSIDE to keep warm!

IT COULD SAVE AN ANIMAL'S LIFE!

If you aren’t ready to adopt, but still want to help, consider sponsoring one of our long-term shelter residents, like Kimi!

Kimi came to CRU from West Street behind the Burger King. She was an older kitten and did not socialize well with people, but we couldn't return her to a dangerous, busy parking lot. So she is living with us as a sanctuary cat.

Kimi is now 12 years and needs a sponsor! Here’s how you can help: https://catsrusrescue.org/adopt/sponsor-a-long-term-resident/

A winter storm is on the way, and we need to be sure our feline friends who live outdoors are protected. Our co-founder Ray and other CRU volunteers have built cat shelters for colonies of local feral kitties. These shelters are inexpensive and easy for you to make at home. Here’s what you need:

😺 A plastic bin. We buy ours at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, but you can also find them at Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Target
😺 Straw: SAY NAY TO HAY! Hay absorbs moisture, while straw does not.
😺 Reflectix insulation: You can find this at Lowe’s.
😺 Plywood to place the shelter on
😺 Bricks or stones on top of the shelter so the lid doesn’t blow off.

When constructing the shelter, use a marker or pen to draw the lines for the entrance, keeping in mind that the bottom should be a couple of inches above the ground. Pro tip: Use a blow dryer to heat the lines you have drawn — this makes it easier to use a knife to cut out the entrance.

Let’s take good care of our outdoor kitties this season. Please SHARE and SAVE this post!
