PUPUPDATE: Claire sent us this cute update, she says, “Azalea is maintaining her weight of just under 6 pounds. Tomorrow is our last day of Foundation II obedience class. She is extremely smart. From a breeder's perspective, therapy TFTs provide comfort through cuddles and intuitively understand their person's limitations without needing them to be spoken. This young lady "Pip" had a serious head trauma from a horrific car accident. Bandit is the perfect therapy dog. He is kind, sweet, and calm.

Reminders:The Gift of love, that keeps giving!

When you welcome your 8 to 10-week-old puppies into your home, keep these images in mind:

Picture this: your adorable new furballs, plodding around on those big floppy paws with wobbly movements. Their bones don't even touch yet! Their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, and ligaments, all held together by skin. Imagine their joints as tiny, wobbly, jelly-like structures that aren't quite fitted together yet. Cute, right?

Now, think about this: if you let them run excessively or don't restrict their exercise during this crucial period, you're not giving them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bounce causes impacts between their bones. In moderation, this is normal wear and tear. But overdoing it? That's a no-go!

**Rule #1:** IF THEY CAN'T GET UP ON THE COUCH, BED, OR CHAIR BY THEMSELVES, THEY SHOULDN'T BE UP THERE UNSUPERVISED.

When you let your puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, or take them for long hikes, you're damaging those forming joints, possibly even worse entertaining a broken leg or worse. Letting them scramble on tile with no traction? That's a big no-no for their joints.

You only get one chance to grow them right. A well-built body comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing—both are essential. Once grown, you'll have the rest of their lives to spend playing and engaging in higher-impact exercises. They'll be fantastic jumpers in time! But for now, keep it calm and give them the gift of a well-formed body.

**Good Rules of Thumb:**

1. **No Fear Stage:** Toy Fox Terriers are known as “a big dog in a little body.” But remember, they go through a "no fear" stage from around 9-15 weeks. They're curious and fearless, flying from tall objects without a second thought. We love this about our loyal little breed, but we have to be their best advocates! If they can't get up “there,” they shouldn't be there. Falling off the back of a sofa for a 2-pound pup is like us jumping off a third or fourth-floor balcony. Maybe not exact, but you get the point.

2. **Carpet Islands:** These offer an affordable way to protect growing joints and ligaments. Sliding into home base or slipping and sliding might be cute, but it's not great for your pup's knees. Don’t blow out their knees early! Just be sure not to trip over your carpet islands or your pup yourself!

3. **Private Space:** A crate or X-pen is their own space. This is so important for their safety and your sanity. Use it when you have company, at night, or when you're at work.

4. **Weight and Nail Trims:** Keep an eye on their weight and trim their nails weekly. It’s as important as their exercise regime.

And last but not least, shower them with lots and lots of love! ❤️

PUPUPDATE: “Hi Ellen… Day 1.5 complete. Tinker Bell is adjusting quite well. She’s snatching toys from the boys already with No fear!The boys are Very jealous. Congratulations to Betsy and Mark!! Little Giovanni is ready for his new adventure!! Betsy shared some great pics and a wonderful update,-We had thunderstorms here all night but he did really well in his crate until about 5am.. We put his little carrier in the bed next to me and he went back to sleep till 6:45 am… “Bathroom break, check! Breakfast, check! Playing with toy, check! Now, what’s next?” He is waiting and ready mom!! Lol 🐾❤️🐾❤️Happy gotcha day!

PUPUPDATE: Azelea is doing amazing, and claire sent us an update. Claire said, “Last night was the first class with our dogs for obedience foundation level 2. We worked on walking, heeling and sitting when stopping. Plus platform commands sit and down while we step away from the dog.” - awesome and the end of class was picture time, excellent !!
