Our focus with adoption is to not only ensure the furever family can meet the needs of the specific pet, but also that the animal will meet the wants and desires of the adoptive family as a pet. Our experienced and dedicated Rescue Team is based out of the Hamilton-Burlington area, supported by a host of pet friendly foster homes throughout Southern Ontario. rograms provide an enlightened and progressive alternative to pounds and shelters and aid caring pet owners who are looking for the best choice when needing to find a new home for a beloved pet. The name “Ugly Mutts” is our tongue in cheek way of stating that every pet is deserving of a loving family regardless of their appearance, size or breeding. Ugly Mutts does minimal fund-raising however with the help of our wonderful supporters and sponsors, along with the adoption and placement donations made, we are able to rescue and successfully rehome approximately 250 to 300 pets each year.

Our Story

Ugly Mutts Dog Rescue is based in Hamilton, Ontario with foster homes throughout Southern Ontario. Ugly Mutts is run entirely by volunteers, and with the aid of a very caring community of supporters, manages to rescue and rehome approximately 200 – 300 pets each year. As well as rescuing animals from pounds and shelters, Ugly Mutts offers a safe and compassionate alternative to people who find themselves in the unfortunate position of needing a new home for a beloved pet.

Our Rescue Team is comprised of a dedicated group of seasoned rescuers with some working full time in fields such as veterinary science, training, grooming, and boarding. All contribute to give a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw from, when working with the pets in our care. Our Rescue Team also runs Ugly Mutts “Fur-days” which is a full day of transporting dogs and cats from shelters to Ugly Mutts foster homes.

Ugly Mutts Intake Coordinator works tirelessly and compassionately with people needing to rehome their pets. She understands that there are times and situations when giving up your pet is the most humane thing to do. While our main concern is with dogs and cats, we will try to help any companion animal in need.
