Vale Fuzzbutt.
Sadly we have had to put Lilly to sleep today. She has been struggling for some time and the multiple pills were no longer propping her up.
I just know that Monty is bouncing around excitedly, welcoming her over the rainbow bridge as are Toby, Murphy, Jasper, Ruby and Maggie.
It’s quite the end of an era for us. We’ve had dogs (especially rescue dogs) for over 25 years and our house is very silent now.

Remember folks, adopt, don’t shop.

A massive thank you to Hannah at North Hill Vet Clinic. I simply couldn’t have asked for a better way to send her off. Lilly passed away on a beautiful spring day, at home, in the shade of a massive crab apple tree in full bloom with the bees buzzing overhead.
Lilly, you were the best girl.

I just wanted to stop by and let everyone know how much I appreciate everyone’s kind words. I can’t read them without crying all over again.
We had many dogs over the years and we still have Fuzzbutt but there’s never been a dog like Monty. He never met anyone he didn’t like.
Actually, I tell a lie.
Cats.
Cats were never his favourite.

He just adored people, food, couches, counter surfing for butter, feeding the sheep with Dad (he became quite the farm dog) car rides, walks, pats and praise. He loved tradies, he couldn’t believe his luck that these people came just to visit him!

I think his happiest times were pre covid, when we had a home full of people, so that the pats never ran out.
A huge thank you to everyone that has followed along over the past 5 years. I‘m going to leave the page up, just in case anyone wants to pop back, remember this 37kg bundle of love and hopefully smile.

I took him for one last walk on the Monday he passed away, it was raining and the road was muddy but he looked very stylish in his raincoat. Naturally he insisted on posing for a photo.

Hello Monty Friends and Fans
This is such a hard post to write and I’m sorry, it’s going to be a long one.

As you know, Monty had a sore leg last week. Earlier today an X-ray confirmed that the cause of his limp was in fact an osteosarcoma which is a nasty aggressive cancer, one that unfortunately, greyhounds are prone to.
Because Monty is now 12, we didn’t want him to suffer in any way. There’s just no fighting osteosarcoma.
And so, this bastard, insidious disease took our beautiful boy this morning. He went very gently, still lightly sedated from the X-ray. He had his Mum and Dad with him and he was in no doubt that he was a VERY good boy. In fact, he was the bestest boy.

Enormous thanks go to the staff at North Hill Vet Clinic for the years of care, love and sparkly red bandages. To Jess, Fiona, Hannah and especially to Amelia who handled the situation today with such kindness, I send so much love and gratitude.
To Janette, Kay and Kate from Friends of the Hound who rescue, foster and rehome these beautiful dogs, massive respect and thanks.

Monty was the most wonderful dog and if you’ve enjoyed following his adventures (and misadventures) then I encourage you to think about a few things.

Firstly, don’t support greyhound racing. It’s a cruel industry and houndies deserve so much better.
Second, if you’re able, consider a donation to the wonderful rescue group Friends of the Hound.
Thirdly, if you’re thinking of getting a dog, make it a rescue. There are so many wonderful dogs in pounds, shelters and rescue groups. Please give one a loving home.

Goodbye my darling friend. Always in my heart.
Mum.

Frens, I has a sore leg. So sore, I don’t even mind that Mum is taking me to da V.E.T. this afternoon. So I’m on da bed rest, which has given me plenty of time to think about da bigger pitchur, da really big questions about life and da universe and stuff and I’ve come to a conclushon.

Cats is stoopid.
