Hello Monty Friends and Fans
This is such a hard post to write and I’m sorry, it’s going to be a long one.
As you know, Monty had a sore leg last week. Earlier today an X-ray confirmed that the cause of his limp was in fact an osteosarcoma which is a nasty aggressive cancer, one that unfortunately, greyhounds are prone to.
Because Monty is now 12, we didn’t want him to suffer in any way. There’s just no fighting osteosarcoma.
And so, this bastard, insidious disease took our beautiful boy this morning. He went very gently, still lightly sedated from the X-ray. He had his Mum and Dad with him and he was in no doubt that he was a VERY good boy. In fact, he was the bestest boy.
Enormous thanks go to the staff at North Hill Vet Clinic for the years of care, love and sparkly red bandages. To Jess, Fiona, Hannah and especially to Amelia who handled the situation today with such kindness, I send so much love and gratitude.
To Janette, Kay and Kate from Friends of the Hound who rescue, foster and rehome these beautiful dogs, massive respect and thanks.
Monty was the most wonderful dog and if you’ve enjoyed following his adventures (and misadventures) then I encourage you to think about a few things.
Firstly, don’t support greyhound racing. It’s a cruel industry and houndies deserve so much better.
Second, if you’re able, consider a donation to the wonderful rescue group Friends of the Hound.
Thirdly, if you’re thinking of getting a dog, make it a rescue. There are so many wonderful dogs in pounds, shelters and rescue groups. Please give one a loving home.
Goodbye my darling friend. Always in my heart.
Mum.
