Jen Hyland “Derg Eventing” Derg Eventing was set up by myself Jen Hyland in 2010. George Dressage horse. Building on this I also lecture in the Irish School of Farriery.

SInce then I have produced my horse of a lifetime Portphilip CD (Andy) from an unbroken 4 year old to a 3* eventer, Grand Prix Show-jumper and Prix St. During that time I have been lucky to train and compete many other horses and meet many great people. I have been based in the UK on 2 separate occasions where I got the opportunity to train, compete and work with some of the best riders in the bus

iness. All this has helped me hone my skills and keep me focused on my goals and hungry for more. Having finished my Equine Science Degree in 2009 I went on to obtain a postgraduate qualification in Veterinary Physiotherapy. I use these skills to work with horses and clients to maximise athletic performance and I developed a keen interest in foot balance and its affect on movement patterns. Now based in Cahir, I am looking to develop my string of horses for the oncoming years and I hope to be back out competing at top level with top horses. I offer clinics and training to riders of all levels, regularly travelling around the country to various training locations and also here at my base in South Tipperary. I also travel for Physiotherapy sessions and again I can offer treatments here at the yard.

This weekend, all eyes are on Mondial du Lion for the FEI Eventing World Breeding Championships where we are wishing all of our visitors and those partnering with Irish Sport Horses the best of luck. ☘️

The undulating Camphire parkland and unique setting for the dressage and jumping phases combine to provide such an important stepping stone in the development of our young event horses and riders.

Sadly, after an enforced absence from the calendar due to Covid-19, the future of now hangs in the balance as our Director and Organising Committee have been informed by Eventing Ireland (the national body for Eventing in Ireland) that the event will not be able to run on its traditional dates 28 – 31 July 2023.

If this decision stands, it means that Ireland will lose one of its most outstanding 3 Day Event venues, one that is much loved by riders and owners seeking experience for Irish horses as well as international competitors from around the world who have always flocked to this popular event.

Camphire is the only Irish FEI fixture to take place on a green field site; the practices of the working farm provide only a small window to undertake the work involved in staging the event each year. Furthermore, it is one of the few eventing fixtures to be embraced by the local community. The event attracts a large crowd of spectators each year and is supported by Waterford City & County Council who see the benefit to the local economy of hosting a quality international event which down the years has also grown the successful Country Fair that runs alongside the equestrian action.

The Camphire OC is questioning the process and criteria that were followed in the allocation of 2023 Irish International fixtures and are endeavouring to establish communication with the Board of Eventing Ireland.

We invite you to read our recent press statement on our website where we will provide further information in due course.

Master horseman, George Morris tells all riders what to aim for:
“Feel the hindleg in your hand, a steady hand. Today we have this fashion for hand riding, don’t copy fashion, what is important, is correctness. You must have elasticity from your shoulder to the horse’s mouth, a straight line, a steady connection and elasticity of hand.”

"Stretch your arm out to the side, holding something like a pencil vertically in your hand. Look straight ahead. You won’t see the pencil in this position. You can’t even see your arm. Now move your arm slowly in a wide outstretched semi-circle toward the front, keeping your eyes focused on a distant point in front of you. The pencil remains invisible until it reaches almost a 45-degree angle. Human vision is limited to roughly 45 degrees on either side of our noses, for a total of about 90 degrees. By contrast, if we held a pencil straight out from the side of a horse’s head, it would be almost in the center of his vision. With eyes on the sides of his head, he catches a 340-degree view, almost four times greater than the range we see. Imagine what would happen if we humans had four times more vision to process every second of the day. We’d be edgy, too!" Janet Jones in Horse Brain, Human Brain, published by TSB. ❤️ 🐴 📕

Janet Jones, PhD, will be speaking at in West Springfield, MA! Don't miss her talks on Saturday and Sunday on the Seminar Stage in the Better Living Center--we promise it will change the way you think about horses and their behavior! See you in West Springfield. 😄

THEY say performing at your best in the face of adversity is a mark of greatness. They also say lightning doesn’t strike twice in the same place. If the first is true, Harry Meade is the greatest. He is also, surely, living proof that the second is absolute rubbish. In August 2013, Harry had a …

‘I want to just ride’ - Say this to any seasoned professional in the game and they will look at you like ‘Oh honey’ 😂

You have to learn to be a rider, groom, horseman/women, business owner, lead a team, handle clients and alongside all this you’ve still got to muck out and pick a broom up until you can earn enough money to have someone help you do this whilst you are doing something else to earn this said money.

‘I want to just ride’ doesn’t exist and if you see someone doing that you have no idea how hard they worked to get in that position. So get sweeping my friend ♥️
