*George Takei voice* Oh myyy…

It seems that Flapjack has found his moment to strike as Jemima is distracted while enjoying her morning salad.

Well… this is a wonderful surprise to say the least!

While cleaning one of my filthy chuck enclosures (one of which is pictured above) and I saw one of my LTC females, Thistle, looking thin. I searched the enclosure and found a clutch of seven eggs in bone dry sand in a hide cave. The eggs are TINY, which explains why I missed her being gravid! They were half the size of normal but appeared to be healthy.

Hopefully they do well and hatch in a few months. This will be the 7th clutch of chuck eggs received this year!

Well, my zebra skinks were very active this week… One of my females in this trio bit the other females tail off! I looked back on footage I have of the enclosure activity and saw that there was aggression between my two females I didn’t previously pick up on. It was only the last 1/4” of her tail but I was worried regardless.

I plan on separating the females if this behavior continues. The female with the bitten tail healed very well despite a little intervention on my part. It’s even regenerating very quickly too so hopefully everything goes well!

Who needs a basking rock when you have siblings? 😁

These are pictures I snapped from a few weeks ago in the early morning hours during weeks when the weather started to get nippy at night into the morning.

My painted (clown) agamas came out for some photos this week.

Next year, I’m hoping I’ll witness the breeding of my painted agamas, with the male catching up in size to the female.

Another successful run for the chuckwalla hatchling factory! Sunday, I had 7 carrot tail chuckwalla eggs hatch from an 11 egg clutch. 3 were slugs and the 1 failed a few weeks ago.

This clutch is doing well at the moment but are shy which is a departure from the typical hatchling behaviors I’ve seen. It’s possible that they’re observing the seasonal photo cycle change and are looking to brumate.

The parents, Lucifer and Rose, are pictured below. They are both pure carrot tails. I may hold this clutch back until weather warms up again for shipping in the spring.

80 total days of incubation. Incubated and hatched on coarse perlite at 89f at 85-90% humidity.

One of our subadult egernia Stokesii got unceremoniously booted out of their colony by their peers. Our guess is that this one is an extra, undesirable male in the group. He is maturing well regardless!

The season of arid lizards is out, and the season of arid tortoises is in!

The adult pancake tortoises are making the most of this autumn day, indulging in some drinks, nesting, and a little bit of hanky-panky 😉.

Uromastyx Thomasi tails serve a very unique purpose: These burrow-dwellers use these oval-shaped tails to barricade their burrow tunnels from any unwanted roommates (or predators)!

Some of our 3 year old Nigriventris are heading towards a color explosion!

Today they were showing off their vibrant yellow and orange hues, and it's not just the males who are stealing the show; Adult female Nigriventris are equally stunning, making this species of Uromastyx truly one-of-a-kind. A photo of one of our adult females is below. Enjoy!

Six more redbacks have hatched, showcasing remarkable strength. They were a handful to hold due to their crazy levels of feistiness!

The parents, Violet and Diablo, are pictured below. The male is my oldest, having kept him since 2015 (and he was fully grown by then). He’s estimated to be around 12-13 years old. Let's hope he reaches a ripe old age of 20!

103 total days of incubation. Hatched on coarse perlite and 89f at 85-90% humidity.

This enchanting clutch of six popped out a little over two weeks ago. 1/7 hatchlings were stillborn but we like to appreciate the gift of six lives regardless of the natural hiccup.

They’re doing amazing at the moment scarfing down greens every chance they get. They’re growing at a crazy rate too! The young parents, Orion and Nebula, are pictured below.

80 total days of incubation. Laid on 6/8/24 and hatched on 8/27/24. Incubated at 89f on coarse perlite with 90% humidity.

Came home and noticed one of the pancake tortoise females, Syri, laying a gorgeous, healthy egg for us! I managed to capture this beautiful moment on video as well. Enjoy!

Mushu, our stunning Omani beauty, was looking particularly stylish today!

He's at the tail end (literally) of his shed, so I captured some a few photos of him. He may look a bit deflated since he hadn't been fed yet, but trust me, this little guy is usually nice and plump!

This male Red-eyed crocodile skink from New Guinea is quite the looker!

These animals are often extremely secretive during the day primarily due to them being “crepuscular”, or mostly active during dawn/dusk periods. During these times, they hunt for bugs and invertebrates to feed on. Crocodile skinks choose to spend their time hiding away under logs and leaf litter in damp soil to avoid detection. This makes taking photos of them quite difficult so enclosure cameras often save the day for us!
