Every few weeks during breeding season, I like to temporarily introduce male pancakes to each others enclosures to partake in some supervised combat. Although it may seem cruel in captivity, this species experiences combat and often fight for dominance in nature. Combat and intimidation is a normal behavior for them in their natural habitat and mimicking natural behaviors as often as possible does well for the animal in my opinion.

After each supervised combat session, the males seem to experience heightened testosterone and will breed with every female they encounter in the enclosure that week. The combat also seems to increase s***m productivity and every egg produced hatches in a 4-5 months.

Disclaimer: The male tortoises do not fight until blood is drawn; No injuries were sustainined during this video.
