Are you training with the word "stay"?
If so, stop! 🛑
There's a better way! 💯💥
At VCA, we use the implied stay! This makes for much cleaner results, better impulse control, and one less thing our clients have to remember to say!
The old school "stay" can go right out the window! 😉
Start desensitizing your dog to touch as young as possible. Make touching of the ears, eyes, mouth, nose, tail, belly, feet, etc, no scary, big deal!
This will help make vet and grooming appointment go much more smoothly!
1️⃣ Dogs may react when things look "out of place". Especially if they are going through a fear period.
2️⃣ Proper socialization isn't playing with every dog or person you meet.
3️⃣ If you can, start training when they are young. Don't wait until your dog is several years old with a whole host of bad behaviors that turned into bad habits! But also remember that no age is too old for training.
4️⃣ Obviously not suggesting you throw toilet paper in your trees, but use real-world EASY WIN & SAFE TO FAIL scenarios to your training advantage. This video is an example. Potater is in a fear period and part of helping him through it will consist of working him calmly and neutrally despite the fact that things might look a bit out of the ordinary in his environment. He will learn to trust our guidance through it. 💙
