Shelters and rescue organizations need foster homes. Dogs (and puppies and cats and kittens) are being killed in shelters every day because there aren't enough kennels in shelters to hold them all. Foster homes bridge the gap to make it possible for animals to leave the shelter environment and start adapting to life in a home.

Fostering can literally save lives.

You can find more information about fostering on our website here: https://www.bluebonnetrescue.org/info/display?PageID=16719 or send us a message if you have questions.

Foster a dog. Save a life. ❤

Will your dog outgrow his bad behaviors? Will he stop chewing, digging and being destructive as he learns right from wrong?

After all, how long can you tolerate his chewing your shoes, jumping on guests, and pulling you on lead?

While some dogs may naturally mellow with age, destructive nuisance behaviors often stem from underlying issues. These can include a lack of education about what is appropriate to chew or not chew, boredom, anxiety, and lack of training.

Waiting for your pup to 'grow out of it' can prolong the frustration and damage. hat's where we come in!

Our tailored training programs address the root causes of nuisance behaviors, providing practical solutions to help your dog learn appropriate behaviors and channel their energy in a positive direction.

🐾 Let’s talk about an important topic in dog behavior: RESOURCE GUARDING! 🚫🍗 Whether it's a bone, a toy, or even their food bowl, some pups are protective about their possessions. But understanding and addressing this behavior is key to having a peaceful relationship with our furry friends. 🐶💕

While some dogs might happily share their meal with a furry sibling, others might guard their bowl like it's their greatest treasure. Why the difference?

It's all about trust and security. Teaching our dogs that food is abundant (and that we're the ultimate source) can help mitigate guarding behaviors.

There are ways to help your pup feel secure and curb this resource guardingbehavior:
1️⃣ Positive Reinforcement: Reward your dog for sharing or willingly giving up items.
2️⃣ Trade Up: Offer a better treat or toy in exchange for the one they're guarding.
3️⃣ Desensitization: Gradually expose your dog to situations where they might guard resources, rewarding calm behavior.
4️⃣ Consult a Pro: Sometimes, a professional dog trainer or behaviorist can provide tailored strategies.

Remember, patience and consistency are key! Let's create a safe environment for our beloved pets. 🏡❤️

Happy Day. The Bulldog is one of the United States’ most popular dog breeds. They’re laid back, lovable, and family-friendly, and their wrinkled skin and slobber makes them even more loveable.

This wasn’t always true. They were originally bred for the vicious sport of bullbaiting. Fortunately, when this sport was banned in 1835, bulldog breeders eliminated the breed’s viciousness, breeding them into the bulldog pets we know and love today.

Bark Busters loves to train bulldogs. For more fun facts about this breed, visit our website! https://ow.ly/5kkG50RcMfW

🐾🚫 It's Dog Bite Prevention Week! 🚫🐾

Did you know that millions of people are bitten by dogs each year, many of them children? But the good news is, most dog bites are preventable with some simple precautions.

Here are a few tips to keep you and your loved ones safe:

Always ask permission before petting someone else's dog.

Avoid disturbing dogs while they're eating, sleeping, or caring for puppies.

Teach children how to properly interact with dogs, including how to approach them calmly and gently.

If a dog seems scared, nervous, or aggressive, give them space and avoid making sudden movements.

We have more great tips for you in the Bark Busters tip sheet. Spread the word and help prevent dog bites! Let's create safer communities for both humans and our furry friends. 🐶💙

Did You Know? For the first two weeks of their lives, puppies can’t see their worlds. Their eyes open when they are 14-to-21 days old, but their sight is still limited.

Puppies are also born deaf, and this is the last of their senses to fully develop. They can’t hear until they’re about three weeks old. Once their hearing kicks in, they hear about four times better than we do!

Where does the English word ”April” come from? It derives from the Latin Aprilis, the name given to the month by the ancient Romans. No one knows for certain why the Romans named it as they did. Some Roman authors thought that Aprilis was related to the Latin verb aperire meaning "to open," because April "opened" the buds of leaves and flowers.

Here's to April and the beginning of leisurely walks with your pooch!

The results are black and white. Dogs that have received training are happier than dogs who have not because they know what their owners want. This applies to dog owners as well. Dog parents are happier when they do not have to change their lifestyle to fit their dog’s quirks, not have guests over because their dog misbehaves, nor have a dog that is reactive on a leash.

Ever wonder why the Bark Busters dog training approach is not based on treat training?

Our goal isn't just obedience; it's fostering a deep, lasting bond based on respect and trust. By forgoing treats, we teach your pet to listen to you, not just follow their nose for food. You’re not seen as the “treat dispenser”, but the leader of the pack.

Training without treats encourages your dog to respond to your commands out of genuine respect and understanding, not just for a tasty reward.

Imagine a relationship where your pet looks to you for guidance and companionship, not just for a treat.

🐾 Understanding Separation Anxiety in Dogs 🐾

Has your furry friend been displaying signs of distress when you leave the house? Does he sit all day at the front door waiting for you to return? He might be experiencing separation anxiety. 🐶his can be as distressing for the dog owner as well as the dog. It's a common issue among dogs and can be challenging for both them and their owners. Here's what you need to know:

Recognizing the Signs:
Excessive barking, whining, or howling when you're not around
Destructive behavior, like chewing furniture or scratching doors
Pacing, panting, or drooling excessively
Inappropriate urination or defecation indoors

There are many different causes of separation anxiety, from behavior to seek attention to lack of education that it’s okay to be alone. Even when you’re home your dog may follow you everywhere!

The good news? You don’t have to be house bound forever. Your dog can learn that being away from you is okay. You can instill confidence in your dog and your leadership so he becomes more confident when left alone. With our unique Bark Busters dog behavior modification system, together we will develop an action plan to cure your dog’s separation anxiety.

False!

This idea is based on the assumption that older dogs are less capable or willing to learn than younger dogs. However, dogs can learn at any age if they are healthy and motivated.

Older dogs may have some challenges, such as reduced vision, hearing, or mobility, but they can still benefit from training and mental stimulation. In fact, training can help keep older dogs active, happy, and mentally sharp.

Bark Busters trainers have been successfully training senior dogs for more than 30 years. For more information with any issues, call us at 877-500-2275.

When we say we can train any age, any issue, any breed, we mean it. Here is an unusual one for you that Bark Busters just trained – a Xoloitzcuintlis. This is a Mexican hairless dog that is the official dog of Mexico. Often referred to as a Xolo, the Aztecs believed this breed had mystical powers.

We always look forward to training all breeds!

March is Poison Prevention Month, a good time for all of us to check our yards and houses for items that may be lurking in our home or yards.

Dogs – especially young ones – are naturally curious creatures. But their inquisitive nature can sometimes lead to trouble: certain common items inside and outside of the home can be life-threatening if ingested.

Be particularly aware of certain foods, plants, chemicals and medications that may cause harm to your dog.
