Meet Cocoa Bean (aka: Beanie). Beanie is a super sweet and snuggly 4 month old 75% Dane, 25% Coonhound mix ( owners did DNA). Beanie came to the rescue from a home breeder who was unable to find a home for her. Beanie’s personality has really blossomed as she navigates life at her foster home with human and fur siblings and a flock of chickens! When she came to us, she was quite shy and reserved due to so many changes, but has finally found her playful puppy side. Beanie enjoys chasing after tennis balls and trying to take sticks away from her much bigger GDFRL alumni foster brother just as much as she enjoys snuggling on the couch watching YouTube with her skin siblings. She loves meeting folks at the local brewery and has made quite a few new fur and human friends. She is wonderful around other dogs and absolutely adores kids. Her 25% coonhound side is hard to discern, until the occasional bark where that hound dog tone shines through! It’s very endearing. She is progressing with her basic commands and is easily redirected. She is almost completely house trained--as long as those human siblings are paying attention--and spends nights and any unsupervised time quietly in the crate. Beanie would make a great addition to any family, could that be you? Beanie is being fostered in Asheboro NC. A fenced yard and previous giant breed experience is required. If interested in Beanie send us an email to [email protected]

Allow us to introduce Biscuit. (When she is being extra cute her name changes to Butter
Biscuit!!) Biscuit and her sister came to the rescue as 10 month old puppies. They were
surrendered to an animal shelter in North Carolina. Biscuit can be described
with two words. Gorgeous puppy!! Biscuit is a gorgeous jet black puppy with ears that do their
own thing. Sometimes they stick out to the sides and sometimes they are normal. Biscuit’s
personality is as beautiful as her looks. Let’s start our description with all the things Biscuit
already knows how to do. I will list them for you:
- Number one - SIT.

Now, let’s talk about what she needs:
- Everything else.

Biscuit knows the command for sit but true to dane form, if she doesn’t want to, she will make
you work at giving the command multiple times before she eventually gives in. (Unless it’s
feeding time or you have a treat). When it is time to eat she will sit and wait for you to put her
food down while watching you with those piercing eyes. Biscuit came to the rescue very thin.
You can see from some of the pictures that she had zero muscle and no fat on her body at all.
She was 10 months old and 72 pounds. She had a UTI and understandably she was hungry all
the time. But she still sat and waited for you to set her food down for her. Now, when you have
your back turned to her getting her food ready she is bouncing all over the place, including
putting her feet on your back to look around you to see if it is ready yet. She is just excited and
hungry after coming from a place where she obviously did not get enough food, or routine
meals.
Biscuit walks on a leash but she is not a natural. She doesn’t pull super hard, more along the
lines of not knowing what exactly to do. When she came to her foster home she was given a
small chew toy with a squeaker inside. She took the toy, crawled on the couch beside foster
mama and laid down. When she squeaked it for the first time she jumped up and was terrified
of it. She acted as though she had never seen a vacuum cleaner, nor rain and preferred at first
to go p*e on the hard deck instead of the grassy yard. She quickly learned where to go potty,
but she would immediately want to go back inside. Outside intimidated her.
Oftentimes the rescue doesn’t get first hand knowledge of the lives our foster dogs lived before
coming to the rescue. But it is clear Biscuit and her sister were not exposed to much at all. But
let me tell you exactly what Biscuit wants: she wants to be with people. She wants to be in their
lap and to snuggle up with them on the couch and to pet and to be loved non-stop, 24/7. Period.
She wants other dogs to be around, but if given the chance to be with other dogs or people, its
people every time. She doesn't care what you are doing, she just wants to be with you.

She is desperate for love, attention, and companionship. We describe her as frantically affectionate. She
will quickly crawl on top of you and lay down for snuggles.
It is easy to see Biscuit was likely confined in a place with a hard floor and not exposed to much
of anything. She was scared of a dog toy! So she will need to be worked with on exposure to
everything and basic manners. But more than anything she wants someone to love her and she
will do anything to make that happen. Once she finds someone to love her, she is literally
oozing with love to give in return. Are you that someone? Contact Great Dane Friends of Ruff
Love if you think you are up to the challenge of making this gorgeous puppy's dream come true.

A fenced yard a giant breed experience is required. If interested in adopting Biscuit email us at

Hi everyone! My name is Paisley (AKA Pastry…). Let me start with I’m the sweetest girl ever! I’m on the smaller side and I’m not sure how much bigger I’ll get. I’m only about 95 pounds and somewhere in the range of 15 or 16 months (we think!!). My foster mom couldn’t stand not knowing my genetics and had my dna done… I’m a perfect mix of 72% great dane and 28% mastiff!!

I love my foster siblings and I love going to daycare when my foster dad doesn’t work from home (so I don’t have to be crated all day!). My previous home kept me crated 24/7 for several months while my owner was sick, only letting me out for a few potty breaks and meals. Needless to say, I HATED the crate in the beginning, but I have learned to tolerate it. I still will cry a lot when I’m in it, but I go in there willingly now and will eat my meals in there too. Mom can’t put a bed in my crate though because I think it’s just a big squeaky toy and will end up filling my crate with stuffing by the end of the day.

I didn’t know much of anything when I arrived, but I’m really good now with sit and down and working really hard on place and stay. My puppy energy can make it kinda difficult some days. Lol I generally walk pretty well on leash now too! I’m very curious on our walks and like to check everything out along the way! I will try to chase about anything that moves too, including leaves blowing in the wind. ;)

I haven’t had any accidents in the house in a really long time either! Sometimes I have a hard time telling mom I need to go, so as long as she lets me out at intervals (and watches to make sure I don’t go into silly puppy mode and forget to go..lol) I’m accident free. I have been accident free at night too since the first week I was here! My mom says it’s because I don’t want her to kick me out of bed…

I’m really just an energetic, active puppy that needs lots of playtime. I can play pretty rough, so I’m lucky that one of my foster sisters can handle my rough and tumble style of play. I also need leadership, as I am a follower for sure. It would be perfect if I had another confident dog that can show me the ways of the world and help me build the confidence that I’m lacking when I’m by myself. Places like the vet and home depot when I’m alone are pretty scary places, but no problem and kinda fun when I have a buddy leading the way! I would prefer to be with a family that is around more often during the day to minimize my crate time and get my energy out, as I can’t be trusted left by myself just yet! But In true puppy fashion, when I crash, I crash hard and love to cuddle on the couch with anyone that will let me near them - 2 legged or 4 legged alike!

My mom says whoever gets to adopt me will be one of the luckiest families ever! AND if she didn’t already have 4 of her own, she’d never let me go! 💕

Welcome Lenny! Lenny is a 5 yr old neutered male that came to us as an owner surrender. She couldn't afford his care and upkeep and also was gone long hours for work. He is a big sweet boy and is settling into his foster home. He has tested really well with other dogs and has lived with a cat before. He also has lived with kids and is great with them. He is totally trustworthy in the house and although not crate trained he does respect a baby gate. Stay tuned as this boy settles in and we learn more about him. He is being fostered in Chapel Hill NC.

Ruby, who came in with her sister Biscuit is settling in nicely and slowly gaining some weight. What she lacks in household training she makes up for in affection and sweetness. She’d live in your pocket if she could. Her foster brother in the first picture is also very tolerant of her wanting to be close 🤣🤣❤️❤️

This sweet nugget arrived yesterday! She is 4 months old and is 75% Dane and 25% Coonhound. She was the last of her litter that her owners couldn't find a home for. She is very sweet and right now the skin kids in her foster home are calling her Beanie...we'll see if that sticks :). She seems to really love the kids too! She is good with the other dogs in the home and is crate trained. Pics of mom ( merle Dane) and dad ( blackish Dane/Coonhound) so you can see. Stay tuned as we get to know her better and she settles in!

Just to update everyone… a volunteer went and spoke with some employees at Petland yesterday. They told her that their “associate” vet took the puppy home with him the night he was brought back and started treatment at his house. And here is a video of the puppy yesterday. He appears to have made a full recovery. Questions we have…
1. Is it standard practice for a business to have a private vet take a puppy to their residence ?
2. We are really baffled but truly VERY happy, about how a puppy who at one vet was recommending hospitalization was fine in less than 24 hrs.
3. After we shared the video Petland posted yesterday questioning why the little girl said she named him Blue when he was admitted to the first vet as Otis, the video they sent yesterday has the person filming telling the little girl they need a video of her calling him Otis.
It all doesn’t sit right with us and pet stores should not exist in this day or time when SO many dogs are dying in shelters because there aren’t enough homes. We will never support this type of business and hope you don’t either.
What we are grateful for is the puppy has survived and from the video has made a full recovery. Petland of course will not sell him to the rescue and we can only hope when they do put him back up for sale he gets a good home that can afford him and his care should anything else happen❤️❤️❤️
Reports were made to the Dept of AG… we can only hope they investigate.

UPDATE*** Animal Control said Petland sent them a video and he was fine...Petland posted a video showing a puppy that is supposed to be the same puppy to their page today showing him running and playing. The little girl in the video says she named him Blue... the puppy we posted was admitted to Blue Pearl vet under the name OTIS! So either this is not the same dog or it's an old video from when the family first got him and his name was changed. The vet that contacted us gave an estimate of 2-3 days of hospitalization...there is no way as sick as that puppy was that he bounced back this fast. A report is being made to the Dept of Agriculture. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1A1EuUjdjt/

So THIS is what happens when you FU@KING support pet stores and buy puppies from them. We were contacted by a vet today because a family was there with this 8 week old Dane puppy that had pneumonia and they couldn’t afford treatment. They purchased him from Raleigh NC
We said we would take the puppy and pay its bills. The owner wanted the refund so she took the puppy back to Petland. Which means THIS puppy is going to die. Petland isn’t going to treat him… they have already lost the money from the sale. THIS puppy is going to die. 🤬🤬🤬 DO NOT SUPPORT PET STORES SELLING PUPPIES!

Meet Ruby and Biscuit! These girls were surrendered to a local shelter at 10m months of age. They are about 20 lbs underweight, filthy and scared to death! Well all that has changed. They are both in foster homes where they are now clean and being fed and getting lots of love. They can be shy meeting new people but once they know you are ok they are the sweetest cuddle bugs and freely give kisses and leans! They have been great with the other dogs in their foster homes too. Stay tuned for better pics and more updates as these 2 girls blossom!
