Welcome Sassy! Sassy came to us when her owner became recently paralyzed and in a wheelchair. He could no longer care for Sassy. Sassy is between 1- 1.5 yrs old and a very sweet girl! She tested well with small and large dogs. She is in need of some basic training especially some leash skills but we will get her there! Stay tuned as we get to know her better and she settles in!

Meet Indi, a blue Dane with just the right amount of gray sprinkling her face! We are not entirely sure of her age, but we think she’s around 6 years old. When she was surrendered by her owner she was a bit overweight, had not been spayed, and had bladder stones. Since living in her foster home, she has slimmed down, and the bladder stones were removed when she was spayed. She is a happy dog feeling much better than she did!
The first few days in her foster home were scary for Indi. She was easily startled and would cower away and cry (that’s the best way I can think to describe it) in uncertainty. She was never aggressive, though. In those moments, given space, she would quickly settle down and gently seek reassurance.
Indi loves her person big! Being accompanied around the house is a given. While she wants to be by your side, she will also give you some space when she’s asked to. She’s content relaxing in her bed close by as you get some work done. She would appreciate having someone around and not being left for long workdays, but she easily goes into a crate and can be left when need be. She’s super excited with lots of tail wags and hip butts when you get home, though! P.S. – her tail is just the right height to knock things off end tables! Indi is also crated at night but to some degree that’s by her choice. Around 8:30 – 9:00pm at night she starts looking towards the crate! She lives with cats and pays no attention to them when they get the zoomies and is respectful when they ask her to back up.
Indi is really strong and needs someone to give her a safe space and direction when away from home. She generally walks well on leash, but additional training would be advised. She will let you know when she needs to go out, but she does not want to stay outside by herself. She does not currently live with any dogs, but she has in the past. She is not food aggressive and has not shown any interest thus far in playing with toys. She barks when she’s unsure of something, including when strangers come into the home. She’s not comfortable with strangers approaching her but if you ignore her, she will typically gain the confidence to approach on her own fairly quickly.

Miss Maple went for her orthopedic consult this past Tuesday! We got some good new... her hip does not need surgery but she will need to be kept on good joint supplements and kept at a lean healthy weight. Her knee ... that definitely needs to be fixed! She has a complete tear of her CCL and her meniscus may be damaged. So she is scheduled in 3 weeks for a TPLO surgery and while they are in there will look more at the meniscus and repair that if needed. Her consult was $441 and estimated surgery will be about $6500 depending on what needs to be done with the meniscus. Until she has her surgery and recovers she will be on MEDICAL HOLD. We could really use help with her bills if you would like to donate

Hello Great Dane Aficionados! My name is GEORGE and my foster mom says I am perfect - which makes me blush just a little. This is my second time with Great Dane Friends. I was adopted about 4 years ago at age 4, but my family was moving into a camper while they build a new house and they didn’t think it would be the best place for me. I was sad for a bit leaving my skin siblings, but I love everyone I meet and I know there is a family out there just waiting to meet me.

Foster mom says that I have no understanding of personal space, but that is just because I love everyone so much and I just want to smoosh my big old head against you so I can get LOVE - ‘cuz it’s the best. FM says I have such a calm, debonair nature that I am a great companion for going out and about on the town and meeting everyone from little kids to adults and other pups too. A drool towel might be helpful though, because I do occasionally leave some drool art around.

I live with two furry foster sisters, right now, and they are CRAZY! I have a good time wrestling with them - especially the smaller, wildest one. I can lay on the couch and she just jumps all around and we wrestle - I guess you could call that lazy play, but it works for me! When we’re all worn out I love just snuggling with everyone on the couch.

I’m hoping for a family who will include me in their activities and take me out and about to explore the world with them. I enjoy car rides and would probably make a great travel companion even in a camper, I think. I don’t need a crate at all and am a very good boy when left home alone.
I am house trained, neutered, and up-to-date on vaccines. Being as I am a senior boy, I’m hoping my new family understands the importance of joint supplements and any other care necessary to keep me walking well for years to come - we’ve got exploring to do, ya know! Jett is a 6-7 month old pup that was found as a stray. We aren't sure exactly what she is except TERRIFIC! She is sweet, energetic, smart, friendly, curious, and a whole list of additional adjectives. She is crate trained and will sleep through the night, usually 8 to 10 hours. Initially she was showed a little food guarding, but that has resolved. She eats in the same room with her 2 foster dog siblings, each at their own feeding station. She knows her spot and will wait until called to come to the spot. She sits to be fed. To say she is a lap dog is an understatement...one of her favorite places to be!
She has done well walking on a harness and has been on multiple pack walks with us and with a neighborhood group of several dogs. She will need additional leash training. She tries to pull if distracted and also will wrap you up in the leash if allowed. She rides will in the car and is curious about where you are going. She wants to ride sitting on the console in our truck. She settles for riding with her front feet on the console so she can see out.
We have taken her out to several different places and she has done well. She has been friendly and curious everywhere we have taken her. Small children really capture her attention and we think she would be an ideal pet for a young energetic family. She loves to play tug and to wrestle; she likes balls and will chase them some but has not showed interest in fetching.

We are also SO very happy to announce that Axel has been adopted! he came in very afraid of men and his foster dad gained his trust and love and they just couldn't bear to see him moved and have to adjust all over again so they decided he was HOME! ❤.

We had another adoption this weekend! Our handsome boy Thor!! Thor had been with us awhile but finally found his perfect home. He has a wonderful new family and we are just so happy for them all!!

Our sweet , but very shy girl Ruby was adopted yesterday!! She came in with her sister from a shelter and it took her a little bit longer to be ready or find just the perfect home for her but she found it and we are SO very happy for this sweet girl!!

The Dane community has lost a very special person. Joyce Frieden was one of the most incredible people that we have had the privilege to know and call friend. She was one of our biggest supporters from the very start of this rescue in 2009. Her love for the breed and her and her families generosity and support will never be forgotten. She was one of the most beautiful people we have ever know and will miss her dearly
