My brain has too many open tabs.⠀
Between navigating quarantine, moving, coordinating contractors, busy day job, freelance projects, building my personal business and keeping the momentum going for the incredibly important anti-racism movement we're fighting for right now — it's been hard to remember my personal mental health amidst it all.⠀⠀
There’s always something more can be done; learning, signing, reading, watching, emailing, educating, conversations, sharing, planning, meetings, research, etc. Sleep? LOL. Who needs sleep?⠀
What happens when you hit the point when you start feeling like you’re doing everything you can but getting absolutely nothing done, start having unrealistic/negative goals/expectations, become overstimulated and overwhelmed? Burnout.⠀⠀
Burnout is REAL. It hits hard and is insanely tough to dig yourself out of sometimes. Unfortunately, I’ve experienced a few bad burnouts over the years, and after starting to feel the fringes of it recently, it’s scary. It can knock you out for days.⠀⠀
My go-to self-care has been unplugging, burying under tons of blankets with a good book, pjs and a glass of wine. When I can, it's cozied up by the campfire in the wilderness. When at home, it’s on the porch swing with a cleansing face mask along with some LoFi background music.⠀⠀
Ex-out all of the tabs, hit the “refresh” button, breathe, and write a small list of a super achievable goals for the day (like simply emptying out the dishwasher or straightening up the living room). Scratch off those few basic checkmarks on my list and instantly feel a little accomplished and motivated to bounce back and continue making moves with renewed energy and a clearer mind, tenfold.⠀⠀
Back to only two or three tabs open at a time, please! What are your methods of self-care to avoid burnout?⠀⠀
Let’s keep the momentum going. Keep listening & learning, keep educating & sharing, keep taking action and understanding the importance of allyship and anti-racism. Link in Instagram bio for resources curated by . Bookmark it. PayPal for it. Share it.
