Flyball practice. We are converting to a fenced in field. As you can see, Maverick has no where to go except down and back. We added distractions.
Maverick at 11 months working on 12 weave poles.
Maverick learning to take a ball in flyball. We started at a low incline and kept moving up. I also added a jump so he knows to start looking for the first jump from the flyball box. This is just a ramp. The jump in front teaches them to hop and turn. We teach the turn part before we add a ball.
Here is a video of an AKC Scent Work Exterior Excellent fail! As you can see, the trial goes on in most conditions and I wasn't prepared as well as I could have been. My treats were in my pocket and it took too long to deliver them when Skye alerted. Also, the leash I was using was made of biothane and it was very slippery! She finds two of the three hides with no issue. You can't see why she failed on the video, but it was a breakfast sandwich wrapper inside of a plastic tacklebox. This is like kryptonite to a Gordon Setter! I know now what we need to practice on.
Maverick at 4 months starting to do recalls in flyball
My name is Mike Chebul and I became interested in Gordon Setters after reading an article in an outdoor magazine in the 80's. As soon as my wife Tammy and I moved from an apartment to a house we got our first Gordon, which was a big mistake. I ordered her from the back of said outdoor magazine and got a very sickly puppy mill Gordon of the field variety. As I was in the military and we got orders overseas we turned her over to a reputable Gordon breeder for placement in a new home. Our next Gordon was many years later and was wonderful in every sense. Jesse came from Cheryl Edwards and was a great experience in owning a Gordon the right way. We then were lucky to own three rescue, or "certified preowned" Gordons, Angus, Libby, and KC! We got our current girl Skye as a puppy from Mary Ann Leonard and Mary Grill and we have gone crazy with her with performance sports! She is currently participating in Barn Hunt, Fast CAT, Scentwork, and has her Junior Hunter and Trick Dog Intermediate titles. We have done many classes in Agility but have not competed yet. Here is a video I made of some agility training from a beginners viewpoint.
Performance sports are fun with your Gordon Setter!! Are you ready to try?
