When I'm cleaning cages, I fill a smaller bin with Feline Pine. I put the hedgies in there one by one to keep them out of trouble while I'm at work. I came out to Bear doing this. 🙄
Sometimes they do stupid things. 😒
Very cute, but stupid.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy!
Momma Godiva had her hoglets, the first of the year, born 1/26!
I'm seeing five little heads but I don't like to count my hedgehogs until about three weeks. A lot can happen between now and then. Sometimes I need to help mom rear a hoglet or two for various reasons, and these babies don't always make it, no matter how hard I try. momma is always best.
Here are the cuties on Hogcam nursing. Godiva is such a good mom. Most hedgehogs aren't keen on letting babies swarm them like that this early in their lives. She always makes sure each hoglet is warm, properly fed and toileted.
For those of you interested in hedgehog maternal behavior, you can see Mom toileting one of the hoglets towards the middle to end of this video. This is rarely found on film due to the protective, nervous nature of mother hedgehogs, who'll throw a fit if you disturb their nest, let alone bothering them in this intimate setting caring tenderly for her babies. A hidden camera keeps Mom none-the-wiser that she's being monitored for her and her babies' health and wellness as they grow.
If you're interested in making one of these amazing creatures a part of your family, please PM me. All hoglets come from high quality, pedigreed lines with full WHS guarantee and six months congenital health guarantee. Each goes home with a baggie of food and my number for lifetime support, whenever you need it.
Please PM me if interested, or if you just have questions about hedgehogs. I'll be happy to answer them.
Many people come to me asking if I can teach them how to breed hedgehogs. I don't so much mind the questions as much as I make sure that they understand what they're potentially in for. There are a lot of risks with no money to be made in it. A momma hedgehog can die suddenly in childbirth, taking her babies with her. Emergencies aren't uncommon, sometimes requiring that mom has a C-section and her uterus removed. Sometimes mothers eat their babies, either because something's wrong with them or because she's stressed. A mother can abandon her babies or kills them due to deformity or illness. Sometimes, despite all of Moma's efforts, she still may need help. This is an example of that last one.
I've got three sweeties in the nest, all boys. It'll be another four or so weeks before they'll be ready for homes, but I love them at this age. So cute!
Hi everyone!
It's been a quite few months here at Hedgieneering. After some initial setbacks this spring I'm proud to announce that Sundae had a litter of four cute babies! They look to be pinto/reverse pinto, some with eyeliner. I'm sure they're going to be beautiful just like their mama. ☺️
I'll post more pictures and updates as I socialize the babies. They should be ready for homes around May 23rd.
I plan to eventually do some videos on hedgehog arts and crafts, kind of like making costumes for them like this. It's a simple elastic band that was colored to blend into our beautiful model, Gummybear, with decorations attached via hot glue. (Without the hedgie in it while I glued, obviously.
These sorts of things are really easy to make, and you can go look them up on Google. Most of the hedgehog outfits revolve around a simple elastic band holding accessories that don't encumber their movement. Capes, hats, lions' manes, bowties, tutus... I've seen people make all sorts of cool costumes for their hedgies.
Personally, try to keep their dignity a LITTLE bit. 🤣
I don't know who out there plays pokémon, but there's a mythical "hedgehog" pocket monster named Shaymin. The hedgie-like form of the Pokemon is called Land Forme. For a little further context, a "shiny" pokémon is any Pokémon that doesn't come in its standard colors. So...
Let me introduce you to my shiny Land Forme Shaymin, Gummybear!
I have more pictures below, including those of the pokémon itself. My reverse pinto boy would look even more like a shaymin but he's the argumentative type.
Rolo getting some belly rubs before bath time. He's such a nice boy.
All hedgies have found homes except Noel. It's really strange to me because she's super sweet. She's first time hedgie material.
Yeah, I know I rotate the camera halfway through. She's still cute, so enjoy the hedgie. 🦔❤️🦔❤️

Meet Snowball!
After consulting with other breeders and my vet, we think he may be a dwarf! He's eating like a champ, he's just... Growing at his own pace.
He'll be staying with me for this foreseeable future, until the vet and I have a better projection for his future size and health. He might just stay with me anyways. He doesn't take up much space and fits well in pockets. 🤣
This is why pedigree tracking is important with hedgehogs. While adorable, these sorts of physical mutations are what we strive to avoid for the well-being of the animal.

I forgot to put Creampuff's hide back in her enclosure after I had her out yesterday, so the poor thing had to deal with the light in the morning while she was trying to sleep. I felt bad but she seems to have solved the problem. 🤣
