Marley has made a lot of progress from barking and lunging at strangers to calmly watching them pass!
We have added a lot of coping mechanisms to our tool box, one of which looking to Mom & Dad for reassurance instead of creating space by being loud & scary.
We still have a ways to go, but I am very proud of our team with the progress we’ve already made.

TSA PAT DOWN
@megannn_york & K9 Dakota were feeling a bit nervous about their flight home, so we spent some time today getting familiar with the layout of the airport.
K9 Dakota is an 8mo WLGSD who is training hard to be a Seizure Alert & Response dog! He is still in training and is not ready for an off leash naked walkthrough, so instead we practiced a TSA Wait & Pat Down.
He went from bouncing up as soon as he was put into a SIT STAY to putting himself into a calm down with chin on the floor while he waited for mom to be “wanded” by “TSA”.
I think we all know his favorite part was the Pat Down & good job head scratches.
‼️ Only task trained Service Dogs are federally protected on flights and in airports by the Air Carriers Access Act (ACAA). Pets may be allowed on a case by case basis, but are not legally protected. Service Dogs are defined by the ACAA as “dog, regardless of breed or type, that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a qualified individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. LEASH HAND OFFS
Today MMK9 worked with our first SD Team @megannn_york and K9 Dakota.
Dakota is a 7-8mo WLGSD, who will eventually be assisting his handler with seizure response. Being able to be handled by Megan’s roommate, a stranger, or possibly an EMT is extremely important when his handler is having a medical emergency.
‼️ Service Dogs are task trained to help mitigate an individual’s disability and manage symptoms just like other medical equipment. SDs have the same access rights as wheelchairs, and are allowed in any non-sterile environment due to their highly advanced skills.

Mickey is one of my Pet Sitting Furiends!
Sometimes he becomes obsessed with lights and shadows. The owners have laid some good foundations training wise, but I decided to try something new.
I asked Mickey to complete his favorite trick - TOUCH - to try to help him break out of that obsessive mindset. It seemed to work well!
I always utilize R+ dog training first before escalating to aversive techniques or corrections. I am not a force free or positive only trainer, quite the opposite I’m balanced! Well technically I’m a blend; I follow a fairly new methodology called positive first balanced training.
