There are many places you can leave your dog when you can’t be with them. Critter Creek Inn is the place your dog wants to be when they can’t be with you.

We need everyone's help here......
A very good friend and client passed away unexpectedly a few weeks ago and we are fostering his two little pups until we can find them each a forever home.

Peggy Sue is a 7 year old Shih Tzu who is incredibly sweet and total cuddle bug.
Chachie is a 3 year old male Chihuahua/Papillon mix who is also a sweetheart who loves to play with people & pups.

Both are spayed/neutered, micro chipped & current on all vaccines and dog friendly. They don't have to go together but if they did it would be AWESOME. If you or someone you know has room in their heart and their home, please spread the word. Thanks!

A little common sense but as I have learned over time, the weird thing about common sense is that it isn't all that common.

Keep your fur kids safe. Turkey Day can be awful for your dog—and in some cases dangerous.

1. BONES
It might seem counterintuitive, but bones are bad for your dog. Carmela Stamper, DVM, of the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine says giving your dog a bone, no matter what the size, can mean a trip to the vet, and even possible surgery or death. She recommends making sure you throw out bones from your own meals so your dog can’t get to them.

2. RAW OR UNCOOKED TURKEY
This is an obvious one. The threat of salmonella in uncooked turkey is terrible for your dog’s stomach (and yours, of course).

3. TURKEY SKIN
You may love the turkey skin and gravy—but fatty foods like those are tough for your dog to digest. In fact, your dog’s pancreas can become inflamed, resulting in pancreatitis.

4. DOUGH OR CAKE BATTER
Raw dough plus your dog’s body heat can actually make the dough rise in its stomach. That can cause your dog to vomit, while at the same time suffering abdominal pain and bloating. Plus, the batter you use for those cakes and cookies contains raw eggs, which could contain salmonella bacteria. Make sure to clean up any scraps or droppings that hit the floor right away.

5. BEER
Keep the cold ones to yourself. Some dogs might love beer, but it can really mess with their stomach. And if the dog has too much, it can cause a fever, rapid heartbeat, seizures, liver damage, or even death.

6. MACADAMIA NUTS
They’re very bad for dogs, and can cause a reaction called macadamia nut toxicosis. Symptoms can range from lethargy to vomiting to your dog being unable to stand up.

7. MUSHROOMS
Fungi are good for you, but very bad for your dog. If your dog eats mushrooms, the dog may experience vomiting, seizures, or even coma and possibly death.

8. ONIONS AND GARLIC
Your dog can get very sick from eating onions or garlic, because they contain sulfides—which are toxic to dogs and can cause destruction of red blood cells, leading to anemia.

9. SAGE
It’s in countless Thanksgiving Day recipes, but it shouldn’t be in your dog’s bowl. Sage contains oils and resins that can upset your four-legged friend’s stomach and do a number on its central nervous system.

10. NUTMEG
Pumpkin and sweet potatoes are good for your dog—but make sure they don’t contain nutmeg. It has mild hallucinogenic properties that, when ingested by your dog, can cause seizures, tremors and central nervous system problems.

BONUS NO-NO: CHOCOLATE.
Most dog owners know this golden rule. Never, ever feed your dog chocolate. It’s toxic for them.

Make sure to have plenty of dog food and treats available to offer your dog as an alternative to the things they shouldn’t be eating. And if you’re hosting dinner, tell your guests not to feed your dog any table food (because they might not know otherwise). And when you go out for that post-turkey feast walk, take your dog with you!

Meet Prince Naveen (Princess & The Frog anyone?) who we were privileged to host as the KVAL Pet of the Week this Monday. He is a precious bundle of senior chihuahua who has been at the 1st Ave Shelter since early July, and that is waaaay too long for this guy. Prince is a lover of any and all attention, gets along with other pups and children (4+), leash trained, housebroken and will melt you like butter when you get to meet him. If you have room in your home and your heart or know someone who does, please tell them about Prince Naveen. More info at green-hill.org

Whip smart, affectionate, engaging & mannerly. She loves chasing balls, playing with other dogs & is housebroken too! If you have room in your home and your heart or know someone who does, please go to green-hill.org and let's get Waffle her forever home!

KVAL's Greenhill Pet Of The Week on Monday was this adorable little Jack Russell terrier mix named Minnie. Besides being flat out adorable, Minnie is also whip smart and super intuitive to people, dogs and her surroundings. Play gentle or hard or run in the yard (sorry) she loves your lap at both home and the car. Bonus: Housebroken too! You can see her in person at 1st Ave Shelter or check out green-hill.org If we had room for "one more" she would be here guaranteed.

Meet Isaac, this morning's Pet Of The Week on KVAL! Isaac is a 2 year old lab/retriever mix who was picked up wandering the back roads of Cottage Grove on Christmas Eve. This sweet eyed little boy is as nice a pup as you will ever meet and is ready for a new home and adventure. Has a lot of energy, so he will need daily exercise & would do best with children 8+ years of age. Gets along great with other dogs and didn't even bat an eye at our cat. Check out Isaac in person at 1st Ave Shelter Tues-Sat and online at green-hill.org.

Wrap your heart around the ever-lovable "Missy," this Mondays KVAL-TV Pet Of The Week who is now at Greenhill hoping for her chance at a forever home. She was picked up as a stray nearly a month ago and has undergone two very extensive dental surgeries to correct years of neglect and is now back on solid food and loving life. She is thought to be close to 9, has a little grey to her muzzle but has the energy of a puppy. Loves the leash, car, hugs and anytime playtime. Her adoption is just $85 and includes up to date vaccinations, certificate for a free vet visit and permanent microchip ID. If you visit Missy you WILL fall in love with her as we have. See more of her at green-hill.org

Kicking off December with my new best bud Bertram from Greenhills 1st Ave Shelter. We were both up and out early for Pet Of The Week this morning on KVAL after first stopping for coffee & dog treats at Hillbilly Brews in Veneta. He is a happy and playful Lab/Retriever mix who only wants to be friends with everybody he sniffs & would be perfect in any home that wants to add a loving and loyal member to the family. His rap sheet says he is 8 years young but his activity level & my vet circle says more likely closer to 5. Is very sociable with other dogs and loves going anywhere you are going and especially in the car! Learn more about Bertram at green-hill.org

Meet Critter Creek Inn's new little friend Rocco! As Greenhills Pet Of The Week this morning on KVAL Rocco went mano y mano with Al Peterson over his tug-toy and even walked the anchor desk to celebrate! He is a wonderful and wise 5 year old West Highland (Westie) Terrier mix who came from an overcrowded shelter to make room for some truly needy pups looking for a second chance at adoption. He would be best suited in a no-cat home with 8+ year old children but would also thrive as a single buddy too. BTW-Rocco gets along great with other well mannered dogs and is not a barker!! If you have room in your heart and home this boy is "winner winner chicken dinner!" Check him out at green-hill.org today!
