Scooter's Bed and Biscuit is the loving, home-style, cage-free daycare and boarding alternative for special doggies in the Portland metro area. I began my professional pet care career part-time in 1985 during my college years at TCU (GO, FROGS!) in Fort Worth, TX. While growing my pet care business,

I also worked in both an animal shelter and veterinarian office as veterinary technician until I was able to make pet care my full-time career. In 2004, I moved to the West Coast and opened Scooter's in Northern California. After yearning for decades to live in the Great Pacific Northwest, I moved here in 2007 and Scooter's opened in Oregon, serving the Portland area ever since. Caring for dogs is the goal every day at Scooter's Bed and Biscuit. I am an expert at keeping dogs happy and stress-free while their people are away from home, and a less-stressed dog is a much healthier dog. Rather than simply making sure a dog's basic needs of food, water, and shelter are met, I go the extra distance to ensure each canine guest has a tailored stay to accommodate their needs for companionship, rest, and activity. Dogs love Scooter's location near the river and all the action that provides. There are big, interesting birds flying overhead (and sometimes resting in our trees) and squirrels leaving treasures outside to sniff and then be chased from tree to tree around the yard. Almost any dog would enjoy Scooter's Bed and Biscuit for boarding or daycare. Family dogs who are not aggressive toward other dogs, and who like to run and play with equally fun-loving canines, excel at my B&B. Also, dogs who pine for their people while home alone, and who might get into a little mischief because of their loneliness, love to spend time with me in the constructive, positive, and nurturing environment I provide. In addition to lots of play, there is also time set aside for rest and cuddling. I take the time and make every effort to create a place where all personalities will feel comfortable. Quiet dogs will enjoy spending time relaxing with a loving caregiver who spoils them with belly rubs. Active dogs will find the large fully-enclosed yard really satisfies their need to stretch their legs and receive extra attention from someone who will throw the ball over and over and over. I strive to tailor each dog's stay with me to their individual needs in order to make sure stress and anxiety are not a factor during their time away from home. I particularly enjoy caring for geriatric dogs and those who need medical care due to chronic conditions or after surgery. I have a separate room in my home where these special ones can be cared for in a quiet environment while not being disturbed by more active guests. My Scooter was 16 years old when she passed away and had a few special needs in her last years. I'm grateful to have had that precious time to further spoil her while preparing her special meals and treating her with holistic remedies. I feel the older and ill dogs are so thankful for the attention we give them. After meals are served (each guest is allowed to eat individually), all dogs have a rest period for digestion and to enjoy music or videos. In the evening before bed, everyone enjoys a final romp outside to get any last minute business taken care of before lights out. I offer each canine guest the opportunity to sleep at night as they would at home. I have individual kennels for dogs who prefer alone time or I can accommodate those who would like to sleep with the group. Soft beds (heated when necessary) comfy sofas, cushy chairs and even my personal bed are provided to make my place homey and cozy. When morning comes, we all go outside and greet the day with a few laps around the yard before breakfast, after which we have quiet time to let the kibble settle before starting another fun filled day. The large outdoor play yard and cozy indoors make Scooter's the best choice for rain-or-shine play and socializing. I offer transportation service for boarding guests Monday through Friday mornings. For your convenience, I am able to administer any oral or injectable medication to your beloved dog while staying with me and I feature 24-hour on-site emergency care. My clients feel safe entrusting their darling doggies to me knowing that I am capable of stabilizing any emergent situation that may arise before seeking emergency veterinary care. My location is 10 minutes away from the 24-hour VCA Northwest Veterinary Specialists Emergency Hospital. Because I structure my boarding experience as a home environment, dogs who stay at Scooter’s are less anxious about being away from their own home. This promotes a happy, peaceful, relaxed atmosphere that clients definitely notice when they come to pick up their dog. This impression is what keeps them coming back to Scooter’s Bed and Biscuit. I have a very flexible schedule and can usually bend my days to fit yours. I do not keep regular hours, but try to be accommodating to reasonable requests for clients to drop off and pick up their dogs when it is convenient for them. I look forward to meeting you and your precious dog soon. I LOVE them when you have to leave them!

The FDA has recently refused to provide pet owners the legal definitions of pet food ingredients. In other words, every single pet owner in the US is forced to buy pet products while being denied access to knowing what is in that product.

It's National Pet Suffocation Awareness week, and while it's nothing to "celebrate" there are simple actions you can take to prevent this tragedy, like learning the proper way to store and then dispose of chip and snack bags.

Trixie is not amused! 😸 She picked up a couple of fleas while we were away from home last month and she always develops a very bad skin reaction to their saliva. I didn't find the two hitchhikers quickly enough to help her avoid the discomfort of the bad itchies this time. I can't keep her from licking, chewing, and scratching herself without having her wearing a cone (which she howls about!), so here we are. She wasn't feeling the onesie I had on her before this ensemble, either. 😜 Anything I can do to keep her from making sores on her skin, without resorting to steroids or more pharmaceuticals (she's already taking two antihistamines), I'll consider. I'm using diet (organic raw) and supplements (many and varied) to get her immune system back on track and enhance her gut biome to give her more tools to fight the bad guys. Ask me if you're interested in the supplements or diet I use. We kicked the dry kibble habit here a while ago and now eat organic raw food and both Harvey and Trixie are more healthy for it. 💜

Happy to have Bower back at daycare today. He's feeling really good after surgery, especially since he's doing his favorite activity...sun napping. 😊 His friend Annabelle is helping me keep an eye on him. Word came back from his surgeon that the mass on his spleen was NOT cancer! 🤸💃🙋😃

Please keep sweet Bower in your thoughts as he recovers from surgery to remove his spleen. His care team is pleased with the results of the procedure and everything else they could see while inside looked good. He'll probably get to come home with his special Lamby tomorrow. 😊

Excellent advice for natural flea and tick prevention. Choose products this year that won't be toxic to your dogs and cats! Bravecto, Simparica, Nexgard (and Trifexis, including its heartworm prevention) are sickening and killing pets.

Flea and Tick Prevention Revisited by Judy Morgan | May 10, 2018 | Blog Spring has sprung and with that comes the fear of flea and tick infestation. I have made it well-known that I do not recommend or prescribe oral preventative medications that last one to three months, as I feel they are extremel...

Holy cow, part 3 of The Truth About Pet Cancer was really interesting! All about vaccinations and how they protect our pets and how the over use is so detrimental. It's been known since 1945 that one vaccination to a mature mammal (in dogs, that's 16 weeks old) will "infect" them *for life*. Infect means that's what teaches the immune system what the virus looks like and it will never forget. Further, regarding the adverse reaction to vaccinations, as I said before they started giving cats their shots in the limbs because when they did it in the scruff, they'd develop these nasty tumors which were really hard to eradicate. By doing it in the leg, they could just cut the limb off and the cancer went away. (😮) Once they started dissecting the tumors, they found remains of the vaccination inside them. What clearer indication that the vaccine was a direct cause of the tumor could you get?

This is the most important area where I want you to make informed decisions and stand up to your veterinarians if they insist on yearly, or even every three year, vaccines. When is the last time you got a diphtheria vaccination? Probably when you were about five years old. The same theory applies to dogs and cats. It is proven by multitudes of research that the shots they receive as puppies and kittens give them lifetime immunity. If you want to be sure of this, ask your vet to perform titer testing. It's a blood test which will check for antigens in the blood showing the degree to which your pet is protected from specific diseases. And, certainly NEVER give ANY vaccination to a sick animal...one with allergies, upset stomach, cancer, etc. Vaccines are a big money maker for your vet and the drug companies push out faulty information to them and to us as pet people. Again, do your research and do what's best for your pet.

Episode 2 of the series will be a real eye opener to anyone not familiar with the sickening practice of how commercial pet food is manufactured. I encourage everyone to watch and learn and then act on the knowledge. There's a reason 1 in 1.65 dogs are diagnosed with cancer now compared with 1 in 100 50 years ago. We are literally feeding it to them by the bowlful, both with the way the food is manufactured and by the ingredients.

Really excellent presentation in the first episode of The Truth About Pet Cancer series tonight. Many veterinarians and scientists from other fields discussed how conventional cancer treatments are failing and actually causing cancer cells to multiply. Lots of good information about some potential causes of the exploding rate of cancer diagnoses in our country. I have my opinions on that...bad food, over-vaccination, environmental toxins. All these will be discussed in upcoming episodes and how to mitigate their onslaught against our precious pets. Tomorrow's show is all about pet food and how it's made. That one will be an eye opener. If you don't have time to watch any other episode, PLEASE set aside an hour to see that one. You will be SO MAD at what you've been made to believe is healthy food that you've been feeding your dog or cat. I'll attach the link for tonight's show and from there you can sign up to get links for all the others. Please watch!
