WHO IS THE EQUINE ADVOCATE? My name is Ness Stables and I am a mum and wife and a lover of all things horse. Horse riding for me has always been a part of my life. I grew up with horses, as my late father, Murray Jones was a horse rider & trainer. He had competed in many dressage & eventing competitions as a young man & hunted with Findon Hunt Club as an older gent. He also owned & trained record winning show jumpers, such as Trafalgar Square & Madison Square, for many events including the Australian Puissance. My father was one of the founding members of the Mountain District Pony Club which was the first pony club to be formed in Victoria. So it was inevitable that at a certain age I would become a member. I loved pony club and then in my later teens my riding consisted mostly of endurance & pleasure riding. About 10 years ago my daughter took up horse riding and we joined the local pony club. I too joined the adult riding club and we immersed ourselves in the wonderful local thriving horse community. In 2009 I took on the role of District Commissioner of the pony club which consists of managing the club rallies, coordinating instructors, lesson plans and for the most part keeping the riders safe and happy. I saw that my role also soon involved helping both stressed riders and more often stressed parents with horse issues. I greatly enjoyed doing what I could to help fix problems and alleviate worry. I handed on the role of DC after 3 years in the position and soon realised there was a need in the horse community particularly for people getting back into riding or starting for the first time. The Equine Advocate was created. I have a passion to know & research all that I can about anything equine! I love this crazy world of the horse that we are all wrapped up in and I eat, sleep & breathe horse information. I feel my knowledge combined with my past experiences and those as DC of our pony club enables me to support people with a relaxed approach to most of their horse needs. I believe we are very lucky to have the love of this sport and the ability to pursue it in our beautiful countryside. My wish is for happy riders on happy ponies & horses, with happy families in tow!
