Sammi needs a human of her own. Please consider adopting from your local shelter🩵

Sammi is so special to us. She is a champion of survival. A perfect example of strength. And an advocate for unconditional love. Sweet Sammi is our longest resident. As of today, January 4th, 2025 Sammi has been with us for a total of 610 days. Sammi is a very sweet and happy girl and is so deserving of happiness. Being in a shelter can be confusing, but for this length of time … it’s is heartbreaking. There is a shoe for every foot and she knows that 2025 is going to be her year.

We transferred her in on 8/30/22 from an overcrowded high-kill shelter nearby where she had quickly been placed on their euthanasia list for space. Sadly, animal control had brought Sammi there from an abuse case. She was severely malnourished with all of her little bones painfully visible. Her fur was thin with bald spots where it had fallen out. Her little body was covered in scabbed cuts and scars from abuse by awful humans. It was evident that she’d had several litters of puppies in her young years. Amazingly, she arrived with a smile on her face and her tail never stopped wagging!

We were thrilled that Sammi was adopted from our shelter on Valentine's Day 2023. Things were going well, but sadly, her adopter did not have the time to work with her. She came back 10/20/23. Although physically healthy, she had developed separation anxiety, was fearful of strangers and was reactive to other dogs. We can tell you from experience that once you have Sammi’s trust, you have unconditional love. She will happily sit in your lap for chest rubbies and belly rubs until she falls asleep snuggled against you. She loves to play with toys, especially tennis balls. She loves to go on walks, car rides, and run and play in the yard. If you fill a kiddie pool with water she’ll splash and play in it every day. Sammi will need to be the only pet in her new home where she has a place to walk and play with people that can spend time with her.

Our first boxer Maya. She was determined, fun loving, and sweet. We lost her to a large brain tumor at only four years old. Maya was my inspiration to start fostering dogs and raise awareness for animals in shelters and rescues. We thought we were purchasing a dog from a family in Lancaster PA, turns out it was a puppy mill operation with dozens of dogs in poor health and kept caged in a dark barn 24 hours a day. They never see the light of day or have the freedom to run. I decided to choose a female so I could keep one dog from being bred and offered the miller half price. He didn’t want to show his face, and had no clue which male was the stud. In honor of Maya, the next two dogs we adopted were over four years old, and decided to only adopt from animal shelters or rescues going forward . Maya made a difference in her short time on earth, at least to our family. Rest in paradise sweet girl🌈💜
