Guildwood Cat Relief Cat adoption, fostering, and re-homing abandoned, stray, sick or injured cats and kittens.

Guildwood Cat Relief is a small, private network of foster homes that work together to find loving, permanent homes for cats and kittens in need. Our kitties come from east Scarborough and further afield and include many that have been abandoned or surrendered due to their owner's illness, allergies, loss of housing or financial crisis. Some are young and some are old; some are healthy and some need restorative veterinary care.

(Re-)Introducing Adam, the 4th Mascot of Guildwood Cat Relief! He came to us as a feral cat. For a while, he had to live in a (spacious) cage, as he swiped at the volunteers and was an aggression risk to the other cats. Since cage life is not an optimal feline destiny, one of the stalwart, courageous GCR volunteers fostered him for a few years. (!) Through her patient care, respecting his nature, he progressed from feral to semi-feral. Last year he developed vestibular syndrome and had to be hand-fed for almost 2 weeks. Consequently, he finally decided that humans were okay and he now lets everyone pet him! If he's not busy snuggling with his feral friends and being a reassuring presence for anxious new arrivals, he loves to sit with volunteers, loudly purring & kneading. But... no lifting or cuddling, thank you very much! Adam is truly a success story. He's not a candidate for adoption, but he symbolizes the tireless efforts of cat relief volunteers and the heartwarming journey of so many cats: from mistrust & high-risk overpopulating outdoor life to safe, comfortable domesticated life.

We'd like to pay tribute to Lionel, who became Guildwood Cat Relief's second mascot when Blake, the expected successor to Google, succumbed to cancer a few years ago. Lionel was rescued years ago and our Executive Director fell in love with him and wanted to find a really good home for him. That home never appeared so after Google (1st mascot) passed away, Lionel was elected to become the 2nd mascot of GCR. Lionel was an easygoing, friendly, harmonious gentleman cat. Into his very old, grizzled age (pictured here with various feline friends) he was chatty with all the volunteers, following us around for tickles and social moments. We were sad to bid him farewell recently, when it was his time to cross the Rainbow Bridge. THANK YOU, dear Lionel, for being such a balm to other cats who came through GCR and for all the heartwarming moments you shared with GCR volunteers!

Mascot Monday! Around 10 years ago, Guildwood Cat Relief started our mascot tradition with a much-loved cat named Google (grey, green-eyed cat). Some of you may remember him! A mascot is a symbol for an organization - its best qualities, aspirations, success, the GOOD & JOY it brings in the world. This week, stay tuned as we highlight a few cats in our mascot lineage, including Blake (tabby on plaid), Lionel and Adam.

Luba Williams, one of the GCR community, has lost her cat, over two weeks ago. Here is the text from her post: My cat has been missing almost a week. He ran off scared in his bright blue harness and leash. Please check your yards for him any sheds garage you may have left open or closed. We live on Chatterton near Bellamy and Kingston. He may have ran to other streets. He was spotted a couple times. We miss him terribly. Do not chase if you see him. He is skittish with strangers. I rescued him his brother and mother from outside when he was a kitten. he is about 7 now. Please check your property i do not know if he has gotten himself out of the harness on his own or if he is stuck somewhere or ran outside of his familiar surroundings. He has never done this before.
Little One come home we miss you so much our sweet boy.
Please call Luba directly if you can help or find her cat. 416 708 1544

Hopeful Heisenberg is still seeking his suitable adoptive home. He would benefit from a home that has multiple humans so he has access to someone frequently for social interaction & mental enrichment. You can meet him in person (in feline?) at Port Union Pet Valu, 5534 Lawrence Avenue East. His profile and an adoption form can be found on the Guildwood Cat Relief website (just scroll down to see his profile and link to adoption form). https://www.guildwoodcatrelief.com/ Please share with your networks... Many thanks!

Heartfelt happy returns to the Executive Director of Guildwood Cat Relief, on the occasion of her milestone birthday! She is the greatest volunteer of all here at GCR who has given so generously, passionately and enthusiastically of herself, her time and resources, to improve the lives of thousands of animals - not only cats - over decades. Her relentless dedication to cat relief has resulted in many happier humans/families, too. Happy Birthday! (Tinkerbell & Chance waiting for festive cupcakes!)

Today's heat is easy-peasy compared to Wednesday's, eh? Ha! Cats certainly can teach us a thing or two about resting-out those lazy-hazy-crazy days of summer! Hydrate, find a shady spot and take a nap!

GREATEST thanks to ALL of you who helped share - a few weeks ago - links and bios of Guildwood Cat Relief cats who are seeking homes. DANIEL the Dream Cat was adopted since then. Paws crossed for one other whose adoption is pending; we'll share an update as soon as we can! Again, many thanks!

Hopeful Heisenberg THANKS everyone who generously liked, loved, cared & SHARED our posts of featured cats last week, for National Adoption Week. Thanks for not tiring, for keeping up the momentum. Every little bit of exposure, even here on social media, helps to circulate Guildwood Cat Relief & gives these cats a chance at a second chance! Heisenberg wishes you a Meowy Monday and hopes you'll share his profile too... he needs to find an "experienced" furever home with people who can keep up with his curiosity and need for mental stimulation! Scroll a moment to find him: https://www.guildwoodcatrelief.com

We'll stretch "Senior Sunday" for National Adoption Week, featuring Lella. At 5.5 years, she's not exactly old, but ageism may factor into why she has been patiently waiting for her furever home at GCR for quite a while. Certainly her personality would be an asset to any human home... she is a gentle, chatty & affectionate delight! We'll have to work at snapping her to showcase her cute paintbrush tail ... as if she's dipped it in white paint! Scroll a second to find her ... and THANKS so much for sharing! https://www.guildwoodcatrelief.com

Petite Ayora ushers in the weekend of National Adoption Week! While she's gentle & dainty & is seeking a human-only home, one of the GCR volunteers notes she is a 'fierce and possessive little lady who will run the males when she wants my affection"! Her bio is good for a smile ... and a SHARE! She's clearly got goals! Scroll a bit to find her... https://www.guildwoodcatrelief.com

UPDATED JULY 23rd, 2024 - ADOPTION PENDING!!

Lovely Louise wishes everyone a Happy Adoption Week ... and hopes she'll be noticed! She is absolutely a PEOPLE cat. Louise approaches people for strokes & does all she can to be close to humans. She's tiny ... and fits into any lap! We'll keep trying to snap her at the right moment ... she is strikingly beautiful with her sleek black coat and yellow eyes! Thanking you in advance for sharing with your network, especially as black cats are notoriously (and unfairly) ignored & tend to wait for homes much longer than their showy grey & orange kin. Timothy & Tissaia, the Tremendous Team! They really are an odd couple who bonded while they were new arrivals at GCR, roommates acclimatizing to their new situation. Timothy is a total HAM, a solid broad-shouldered guy. He loves to be with people, whether playing, cuddling, kneading or chatting. Tissaia is a tiny, gentle lady who prefers people over cats ... but makes an exception for her best friend Timothy who grooms her daily. Please share so this Perfect Pair can complete someone's home! They are first on the list of bonded pairs: https://www.guildwoodcatrelief.com

Meet Mumford the Gentle Giant during National Adoption Week! He is a TALL cat; if he were human, he'd be a 6-footer! He needs OUT of the GCR headquarters: while it's well-appointed with excellent food, good lighting, comfortable beds & loving people, Mumford prefers to not have so many housemates of the feline kind. Gentle & quiet, he loves people, tickles & treats ... he really wishes to find his furever family/home. Please share to increase Mumford's opportunities! It's National Pet Adoption Week! We invite you check out https://www.guildwoodcatrelief.com/ for feline pairs and singletons seeking furever homes! Did you know that July and August are the most challenging times for cat rescue/relief organizations? This is the season we are overrun with cats and kittens, as the Spring/Summer litters have been born. If we may say, it's a "merciful" gesture to share this message widely (and even those of other organizations), to reach potential families. Thank you!

To mark "Nature Photography Day", meet Braveheart, a cat of one of GCR's volunteers. Of course Guildwood Cat Relief strongly recommends that domestic cats live indoors, for their safety and that of wildlife! And if cats do spend time outside, they should be neutered/spayed, vaccinated, collared, belled and microchipped! The whole nine yards for nine lives! Feel free to share your own nature photography - feline or otherwise!

Heisenberg URGENTLY needs a home as his current foster family has had a sudden change in circumstance. Ideally adoptive. Foster-to-adopt is possible, too: Guildwood Cat Relief provides food and litter, you have time to see if he will be a good fit in your family. Or just plain ole foster until we find an adoptive family.

His current foster home has allowed his personality to blossom! He is proving himself to be loyal, affectionate and playful. He needs a home where he is the only animal, with attentive adults, likely not children - although teenagers might be okay.

Please share this post! His bio & foster application link is second from the bottom of the main page. https://www.guildwoodcatrelief.com/ Thank you!
