Guildwood Cat Relief Cat adoption, fostering, and re-homing abandoned, stray, sick or injured cats and kittens.

Guildwood Cat Relief is a small, private network of foster homes that work together to find loving, permanent homes for cats and kittens in need. Our kitties come from east Scarborough and further afield and include many that have been abandoned or surrendered due to their owner's illness, allergies, loss of housing or financial crisis. Some are young and some are old; some are healthy and some need restorative veterinary care.

Baby, it's cold out there!! Please check Toronto Street Cats website for numerous links on how to make simple but effective shelters for outdoor/stray cats in these mega-cold days. Remember, do not use blankets, towels as they get cold and wet. Best is STRAW, NOT hay, over foam for insulation. https://torontostreetcats.com/d-i-y-shelters/ #:~:text=Or%20just%20keep%20it%20simple,take%20them%20off%20their%20hands!

Beautiful Boswell believes in silver linings ... he's even got one as his undercoat to gorgeous black overcoat! In his own words: "I’m good-natured, charismatic and outgoing, and I love to softly kiss my humans on the tip of their nose and sleep on their extra pillow at night. I love people food treats and have my playful, zoomie moments. And I’m a paw-some personal secretary. Mindless couch potato-ing is not for me! I I like to spend time around my human buddies, or at least watch interesting things happening outside so I know what's going on in the world." He really is overdue for his own home with humans all to himself that he doesn't have to share with other cats. Please SHARE and find his application on the GCR website: https://www.guildwoodcatrelief.com

Gentle, curious Mumford still dreams of his own family to charm! He is a "tuxedo tabby"... an aesthetic of cat that tends to be chosen last, can you believe it (?!?)! Mumford gently forebears communal living with the other cats at GCR, but sometimes needs quiet time alone or just with humans. He LOVES people, follows the volunteers around looking for tickles, cuddles and human food! He is impressively tall and long for a cat... lanky! 1.5 years old, neutered & vaccinated. PLEASE share … Mumford is available for adoption or Foster-to-Adopt for a family who might not be sure yet. You can find his adoption application on the GCR website (scroll down a bit). THANKS! https://www.guildwoodcatrelief.com

Warm best wishes for 2025 to all of you who support Guildwood Cat Relief in various ways! 2024 was as busy as ever - many surrenders and rescues, numerous successful and happy adoptions, a few rainbow bridge crossings, thousands of hours of tireless and dedicated behind-the-scenes voluntary work, a few new volunteers gladly welcomed to the team, donations of materials/food, monetary donations via Petfinder, kind words and solid shares of support here on Facebook. THANK YOU to all our supporters! Depicted here a few of our happy 2024 adoptees - Lella, Ozzy and Luna. Please visit our website to see a few highlights! https://www.guildwoodcatrelief.com

From years of experience, GCR strongly advocates raw food for cats. Particularly, frozen raw (less expensive) and freeze-dried raw. Of course, safe food handling is imperative. Cats are "obligate carnivores" and don't need the abundance of (filler) carbs found in most ultra-processed kibble. This video explains some of the challenges pet owners face from skeptical veterinarians. An interesting point is the difference between cooked bones (do not feed! Risk of sharp shards) and raw bones (eaten by cats for millennia). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BO_hu4kah4

Actually on THE DAY now! On this Giving Tuesday, we urge you to support ANY animal organization of your choice! Maybe you can't adopt a pet, but did you know that you can make donations to a pet's care needs through the PetFinder website? Click on the profile of an animal and then click on the "Sponsor" icon. Money donated contributes to the animal's care; anything beyond the individual cat's care needs are used to help other cats' needs at the organization you're supporting. We'll share Carleton's profile here as an example, so you can see what we mean; particularly as he's been patiently waiting for an adoptive home for a REALLY long time. Thanks for your support of GCR (and any organizations that support animal welfare)... and thanks for sharing this post to promote Carlton and/or inform others of the sponsor option!

Introducing Cinders ... guess what colour he is?! Our last feature for our Black (cat) Friday theme. He is available for adoption, needing a family who would help him with his weight loss program. He is a gentle giant, both tall and portly, with a little white paunch. Friendly, agreeable, affectionate, a great lounger ... and marvellously photogenic! Thanks in advance for sharing ... and for enjoying our celebration of black cats this week! His profile is not yet on our website, but you can click on any of the adoption icons and the application gives the opportunity to list the cat(s) you're interested in adopting. https://www.guildwoodcatrelief.com

Featured today for our Black (cat) Friday theme: Verity (caught mid-pink-lick), Whitney (rocking her 80s glam pose!), Tina (clipped ear), Aries (paw on volunteer), and big-shot Elliott (he's actually "long in the tooth"!). The ones shown yesterady and today are not highlighted on our website for adoption, for various reasons - whether feral, chronic health issues, older age. However, please reach out if anyone caught your eye!

For our Black (Cat) Friday tribute, here are Mario and Luigi, long-haired brothers. Daily they hang out together and do a little "mutual kneading" as part of their routine. As most black cats are, they are completely mellow fellows, laid-back loungers, friendly and affectionate.

We'd like to offer a little tribute to the black cats at Guildwood Cat Relief, in the spirit of what we're calling Black (Cat) Friday. Of course, we're NOT advocating to "buy" cats, nor to look for "deals" on cats. Animal adoption is a commitment of resources - time over many years, ongoing responsibility, effort, financial means, and lots of love! Which is why our adoption process at GCR is so rigorous! To start the week, a clowder of some of our resident black cats!

Patient Mumford is still wishing for his own home. The volunteers at GCR notice that he’s sad without a family of his own; he misses a real family. While he’s tolerant of the other cats, he’d much rather be a one and only family pet. Mumford LOVES humans, follows us around looking for tickles, cuddles and human food! Shown in the photos here, he was having a reprieve in the vestibule from the other cats… and was VERY happy to welcome a volunteer who happened to come in. He spent a long time with the new smells on the boots, hat and scarf, all the while nuzzling the wall and the volunteer’s hand, and winding around her ankles. He is impressively tall and long for a cat! He has a gentle nature and is curious about anything moving outside the window. 1.5 years old, neutered & vaccinated male, DSH brown tabby with unique white markings. Please share … Mumford is available for adoption or Foster-to-Adopt for a family who might not be sure yet. You can find his adoption application on the GCR website (scroll down a bit). For "Black (cat) Friday", we'll feature some of GCR's resident cats and adoptable cats over the coming week. To start, Boswell with the silver lining is seeking his furever home, without other cats please! "I’m good-natured, trusting, outgoing & social. I love playing and sleeping on your bed. I love human food treats. And I’m a paw-some detective! Couch potato-ing is not for me (although these pictures make me seem like a fibber)! I like to be with my humans, or at least watch interesting things happening outside so I can keep up on the latest news in the neighbourhood." Introducing Camille! 2.5 years old, spayed & vaccinated. In her words: I’m a friendly, girly sort of girl who loves to be fussed over gently and told she is a secret human. As you might have guessed, humans are my thing – I have little use for other cats. I like to chat animatedly with my humans and tell them all the things that are on my mind, but I can be independent, too, if needed. Patient, quiet and smarter than you think, I can usually be found hanging out somewhere near my humans – and would probably do best as the only feline in the house. (If we may say ... look at those sweet little ear tufts!) Please visit the GCR website for an adoption application ... and thanks for sharing! https://www.guildwoodcatrelief.com

Stuart, the Gentle Giant. He just arrived to GCR after being rescued from the street a few days ago. He's been noticed outside for at least 8 months. "How do we know he's not just someone's roaming pet?" He's unneutered. He has the telltale "tomcat" attributes ... "big grapefruit head" and large cheeks; damage to his ears, indicating he's been in street fights, plus eye and ear infections. In the days ahead he will get the veterinary care he needs. We'll keep you posted on his progress and hopeful eligibility for adoption!
