SENIOR SUNDAY: FERGUS
Fergus is another one of our beloved seniors and is quite a character. He is the mellow one of the group and doesn't mind being around the other cats. He also really enjoys the attention he gets from the volunteers. However, the thing that he enjoys the most is FOOD!!! Doesn't matter if it is cat food, human food, or even salad. If you are not careful, he will steal it right off your plate. Recent blood work revealed he is still extremely healthy, so he is just a glutton. We happened to get this video of him licking bread as we were preparing peanut butter sandwiches. Fergus is likely to be around 14 years old.

"Hello! My name is Hobbs. I am a loving, sweet boy with innocent yellow eyes. I was born with Cerebellar Hypoplasia, which is the result of an underdeveloped cerebellum. CH usually occurs when a pregnant cat contracts panleukopenia virus and passes the infection to her unborn kittens.
"Never fear! CH does not affect my health or my quality of life, and I don't require any special treatments or medicine. All it does is cause me to walk a little wobbly, that's all. I can jump in the air and I can dart away pretty darn fast, I can climb a cat tree, and I’m perfectly capable of getting in and out of a covered litter box too. I am a perfectly happy, content boy.
"As soon as you come close, I purr in anticipation of being petted. It doesn't take a lot of urging before I flop on my back, all 4 legs in the air, to have my tummy rubbed! Perhaps owing to my CH, I’m completely trusting; like a child, it would never occur to me that anyone would wish me ill. I’m also curious, and if you give me even the tiniest indication that you notice me, I’ll follow you around. My two favourite things are being petted, and engaging in head-butting and delicate nose-licking with you; when I do that I’m visibly so happy that I melt everyone’s heart.

Other characteristics that make me the ideal companion include independence when needed, curiosity, playfulness (because age is just a number!) and faithfulness. GCR is in urgent need of a foster home for these four little healthy, happy darlings. The spring kitten season in full effect; oodles of litters are being born. Also, with the rising prices of everything and Covid still affecting our lives, we surmise that many people are finding themselves unable to keep their cats. This has resulted in cat rescues and shelters across the city becoming very full - some to capacity. We at GCR are not immune to these challenges. In an effort to create more much needed space at the rescue, we are asking that anyone who is responsible, has experience with cats, and has a loving home consider fostering these kittens.
All the kittens have had their first shots and will have two more, a month apart.
Fosters for GCR will be provided with food, litter, and if any medical issues arise, GCR will look after them via our trusted veterinarians. All you need to do is be able to offer a safe, loving home during fostering. Once they are safely ensconced in their foster home, GCR will post them for adoption.

I do not like being told "no" and I will always argue my case while being redirected. Even though I am independent, I'm also very affectionate. When I bond with someone, I get really attached - even if my behaviour makes me look aloof. At bedtime, I have the most adorable habit of kneading and licking your arm until you decide it is time to go to sleep."

Ciarán - Hey! My name is Ciarán! Can we be friends? I am a very handsome boy who, my foster-mommy thinks, is going to grow up to be BIG and strong. I may become a big boy, but I'll always be your baby. I am gentle, loving, and easy-going. I won't ever argue with you. I enjoy playing with toys and playing tag with my sister, Leila; but the thing I like the most is cuddling with my foster mommy. I am a total snuggle bug; a lap cat in the making. I will even give kisses if I am feeling particularly affectionate. I guess you could say, I'm a bit of a mama's boy. I like to be wherever my foster-mommy is. If she goes upstairs and I am out of my kennel, I will scale the baby gate and follow her. This drives my sister, Leila, nuts because she hasn't figured out how to jump over the gate yet, and she hates being by herself. Personally, I get a little kick out of being able to do something Leila can't (but don't tell her, she'll wrestle me, put me in a headlock, and bunny-kick me in the face - she's tough).
Leila - Hi there! My name's Leila! What's your name? I am a beautiful, sleek little house panther who loves being the centre of attention. My foster mommy says I'm tenacious. I am persistant when I want attention; giving the most adorable mews, rolling and wiggling, rubbing up against you, and playing with the tea towels. My favourite toys are the feather wand (or anything with ribbons), as well as toy mice. I can get kind of intense sometimes when playing with a toy I do NOT want to share; I might growl at my brother, Ciarán and run away if I even think he might be coming for it. I am not a mean girl, though - it's just play. I am really quite the sweetheart and even show concern when my foster nana-cat is upset. I am friendly, athletic, brave, and curious. I spend most of my waking hours playing, but I do also enjoy cuddling with my foster family when I ge
