Happy Pit Bull Awareness Month from Slappy...a Reunion Rescue dog
Slappy was at San Francisco Animal Care and Control when saved by Reunion Rescue but it started a war that still goes on to this day...a "green volunteer" sprayed Slappy with a fire hose when she was jumping up and down right in front of Mark and Rachel - her Reunion Rescue adopters.
The next morning, Slappy who'd just been spayed the day before was found by Ann Bennett the SFACC vet tech..Slappy was covered in blood as well as her kennel floor..her intestines were all over the room. Ann took pictures (wisely which we still have today) and forced SFACC to take Slappy to Pets Unlimited for trauma and immediate surgery where five feet of her intestine were removed.
Director Carl Friedman and Deputy Director Kat Brown not only fired Ann for her life-saving efforts but banned myself and Reunion Rescue who's saved hundreds of pit bulls scheduled to be destroyed by San Francisco Animal Care and Control and San Francisco SPCA after being turned away by the 1994 SFSPCA/SFACC Adoption Pact.
Slappy was adopted by Rachel and Mark and went on to live a wonderful healthy life and even moved here to Texas with her family. Reunion Rescue has gone on to save tons more dogs and operates a never kill refuge where all pets are raw-fed and holistically treated.
SFACC San Francisco pit bull watcher still kills pit bulls for space and bans good rescues like Reunion Rescue
