Please share this older blog post for Pit Bull Awareness Month. A pit bull's reality is that many of them never get a second chance. Over 1 million are euthanized in shelters every year. It is up to us to educate others to get this number down. http://luckydogrescueblog.blogspot.com/2011/12/pit-bulls-reality.html

I own a pitbull boxer mix. He certainly is a handful! He's about a year old and he nips and has a Ton of energy and he grew so fast. He's still with his brother and sister of the same litter and they are more boxer than pit, they're much more calm. Unfortunately he's not WITH me yet, he's with a fri...

It is Pit Bull Awareness month and what better way to celebrate than to feature all the amazing Pitties at Lucky Dog Rescue. Susie is such a sweet girl and I can't understand why she keeps getting passed over. Let us all celebrate Pit Bull Awareness by sharing Susie and the many other pits looking for their forever homes.

My name is Susie. I am a 2 year old, black & white, pit bull mix. This one time, I was waiting on death row... that was the most scared I have ever been. Before I got to the pound, some real mean people beat me up and hurt me real bad. I was real scared there. Then, they took me to the scary pound and left me behind. I almost didn't make it out in time...When my foster mom, Ashley, saved my life, I didn't know if I could trust her. I wanted to trust her so bad, but I was real afraid that she was taking me back to the scary house where they hurt me. Lucky for me, she was taking me to my new life as a foster pup. I love to give my love and kisses. I really like a good belly rub, but my favorite thing ever is a laundry basket full of clothes. It's so fun to run and jump in the fluffy basket! I like to curl up and chew my toys in the laundry too. It makes me smile so big! I am up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, & heartworm negative. Lucky Dog Rescue, Meridian, Mississippi

My name is Mimi, and I want a family to love me. I had a family once… I was a treasured family pet and the children’s best friend. When I was a young pup, the children loved me so much, and oh how I loved them. Every day, they would feed me, walk me, and snuggle with me at bedtime. Those times will be forever treasured in my heart. But the children grew up, and so did I… and suddenly, I wasn’t so special anymore. They kicked me out of the house, and made me live outside. They forgot to feed me; they forgot to walk me; and they forgot all about our special bedtime snuggles. They never even looked at me anymore. One day, my family dumped me at a shelter, and they never even looked back. I cried out for them, but they just hurried out the door. I guess they couldn't get away from me fast enough. After years of my unwavering love and devotion, they threw me away. I didn’t know my heart could hurt this bad. I’m an adult, female Pit Bull mix, and I am super loving and loyal. I love people! If you love me, I love you. I like boy dogs better than girls, and I prefer an older male to a young pup. I like to roll in the grass and enjoy the sunshine, and I love belly rubs. My foster mom, Ashley, says I’m her little angel. Most of all, I love having a family. I love to matter to someone. If you are looking for a special girl, can I be the one? Please… I need you. Most rescues rely on foster homes. Fosters are an essential part in their ability to save lives. Sadly, this is the area with the fewest volunteers. Rescues throughout the USA are overcrowded. As much as they want to help those pets in need, they cannot do it without more fosters. Will you help save more lives by fostering a pet in need?

Faith is the newest member of the Lucky Dog family. We are very excited to have this sweet girl. A special thanks goes out to the extremely kind and caring truck driver who refused to turn his back on her and spent many hours trying to find her help. Although Faith is amazing in every way, the past few months have not been kind to her. She is very emaciated and had multiple fractures on her hip, tibia and ankle. The X Rays were heartbreaking and show she probably had these fractures for a few months. The bones had started to heal improperly and scar tissue had started to build up. Considering this, it was very important we get some weight on her so she could undergo surgery. We are happy to report that Faith gained 5 lbs this week and blood work looked well enough to proceed with surgery. Our vet felt it was important to get this surgery done ASAP in hopes she will gain some functionality in her leg again. Faith came through surgery with flying colors. She is now on kennel rest (which will also help her gain weight) and in a few weeks we hopefully see improvements. She has a long road ahead of her, so please keep this sweet, precious girl in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks for all your continued support of Lucky Dog Rescue. Check back in a few weeks to see how Faith is doing. http://luckydogrescueblog.blogspot.com/p/donate.html

TRUTH: a "Pit Bull" isn't a breed of dog at all. Instead, a "Pit Bull" is a cluster-f**k of multiple dog breeds, or mixes of those breeds. Essentially, the term "Pit Bull" means the same as "Terrier" or "Retriever." So... why do people call them "Pit Bulls?" Well... honestly... it's a term that's often wrongfully used against them... based on the media's/society's desire to demonize a "breed" ...(which isn't even a "breed" to begin with.) The term "Pit Bull" is often used when an ignorant person wants to "blame" an animal... for some horrific issue. If there's ever been a dog who's done something "wrong," they've almost always been deemed a "Pit Bull." In reality, they may be a freaking Boxer or a friggin' Beagle or an f-ing peeka-poma-poo-poo-bear. But if that dog did something questionable... if they hurt someone in the slightest... that dog will be called a "Pit Bull." Thus, the Pit Bull "breed" ... (which... again... isn't an actual "breed" at all), will take the fall, for what such-and-such dog of such-and-such breed did. These days, in our society... a dog who hurts a person... is considered a "Pit Bull" ... almost automatically. Because people assume that only Pit Bulls "attack." Well, I'm here to tell you, THAT'S NOT TRUE! Yet... has a "Pit Bull" ever been guilty of attacking someone? YES! But has a Chihuahua ever done the same... and caused massive injury or death? YES. Has a Lab... a Golden... a Boxer... a Poodle... ever done the same? YES. Should we just ban them all?? No one can ever have a dog again... because a couple of dogs did something wrong? Ask yourself: has a human being... an actual person... ever harmed someone... killed someone? YES. Way more times than dogs have!!! So, should we ban all people as well? Well, NO, that's silly! Basically, the exceptions in any situation DO NOT make the rule. Especially because... "Pit Bulls" (if we're calling them that) are subjected to THE MOST INHUMANE treatment I've ever witnessed. They're truly tortured, and then... they're blamed for what HUMANS did to them. Would you blame a child for acting out... if they were being severely abused... beaten... mauled... at home? If their limbs were hanging from their body... and no one took them to the doctor... would you blame that child for being angry? If they were "trained" to kill.. or else, they'd be killed themselves.... would you blame that child for that too? Seriously.... WHO would you hold accountable? The child... or the parent who made them do it?? If you think these dogs just "want" to be "bad," then I invite you to come meet my dogs... many who have been rehabbed from some of the horrific situations I've mentioned. Take me up on it: My name is Ashley Owen Hill. I run Lucky Dog Rescue in Meridian, Mississippi. I have lots of "Pit Bulls" here, and I'd bet you my last dollar that any one of them... will change your mind... your heart.... and maybe, just maybe... they'll change your life.

"Dogs know when you save them. They just know. And in return, they thank you every day... with a love that will soften your heart, remove your sadness, and change your life. A love that you can't even imagine... until you experience it. Do your heart a favor. Adopt a rescue dog." Ashley Owen Hill

PLEASE WATCH & SHARE this old video a friend made for my super-special rescue baby, Melody, an 11+ year old, Senior girl, who's survived the worst the world has to offer. Yet, she continues to be one of the most incredible dogs I've ever met. Melody went to an amazing foster home today, but she still needs a forever family. A simple share just may help her go home." Thanks! Love, Ashley Owen Hill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQOMI9LGE78

In this life, I've learned far-more from dogs... than from any human being. They've taught me about forgiveness, compassion, and gratitude. But mostly, about the meaning of true happiness. It's never about what you have, how much you have, or what you'll eventually have. All that matters... is who you have by your side. (My thoughts today. Love, Ashley Owen Hill)

PET OF THE DAY: Freddy.

Who can resist this adorable face? Please share Freddy. I know the perfect family is looking for him.

My name is Freddy. I am a 2 year old, black Lab/pit bull mix. I was rescued from the scariest place I ever saw... death row. I was so afraid at the pound. I didn't know if I would ever make it out of there and have a chance for a family. It made me real sad. I was so happy the day my foster mom, Ashley, came and got me out. Now, I just dream every day about having a family of my very own.
Sometimes, families come to look at the rescue dogs, but they never seem to notice me. I try to jump up and say, "Hey look at me! I'm special!" But they always move on to the next pup. I just can't understand... I'm a good boy, I promise...
I'm real friendly and outgoing. I love to run & play with other pups! But I also want to be right by your side to cuddle. I'm real smart too! When my foster mom tells me to come, I come even if I don't want to stop playing!

In case you never read this... I'm re-sharing an old post, in loving memory of Rudy. This is part 1 of 3. I'll re-share the follow-up posts shortly. Love, Ash http://luckydogrescueblog.blogspot.com/2011/07/one-year-ago-today.html

One year ago today, Rudy passed away. I write about Rudy often, because everything I’ve done since his death has been to honor his memory. But until now, I’ve only given a general overview of Rudy’s passing, and a lot of you have asked me to write about exactly what happened that day. So, this is th...

Today is the anniversary of my Rudy's death. Three years later, I still can't believe he's gone. Three years later, I still miss him every day. Yet... his continued impact on my life, and on so many others, has kept his spirit alive. As long as I'm living, so will he. Here's the blog post I wrote last year about this difficult day. If you've ever lost a loved one --dog or person-- I'm sure you can relate. Love, Ashley Owen Hill http://luckydogrescueblog.blogspot.com/2012/07/another-anniversary.html

It's amazing how "anniversaries" can hold so much meaning in our minds and hearts.

In truth, an "anniversary" is nothing more than a date... an annual reminder of the specific day that a certain event occurred, in some previous year.

Please remember to keep your pets safe today. Make sure you have a current picture. Even if your pet stays inside all the time, accidents happen so please make sure they have their ID tags on at all times. Happy 4th of July!

July 4th fireworks can be disorienting and scary for pets which may cause them to flee.

Help prevent this heartache by making sure your furry friend is safe at home this 4th of July!

My name is Missy. I was dumped in the country by some people who didn't treat me very nice. I was real scared & all alone.... just wandering around looking for someone to love me. I was so hungry... my tummy would growl all the time. I would curl up outside and shiver in the cold. My foster mom, Ashley, rescued me, and now I'm hoping for a family of my own. Are you my mom? I have lots of energy.. I love to run & play! I really like other pups & children! It would be real neat to have a place to run, but I also like to curl up next to you on the couch.
