We strongly advise owners and potential owners to do their research before getting a potbelly pig. They are a wonderful, intelligent pet, but their needs and feed and even vet care are very specialized! Those "teacup, micro, pixie, pocket" whatever you want to call them pigs, are just starved potbelly pigs! NO pig should be taken from mama before 8 weeks old just to have their food intake controll
ed as "teacup breeders" do! If you want a pet pig, get a healthy pet pig! There is NO healthy teacup pig! If enough research is done, you will find that they will die around 5 or 6 years old due to their organs outgrowing their stunted body structure. And also, don't think of "abandoning" your pig because it got too big, the major reason we get those calls! Starved pigs are also very aggressive! If you believe the breeder's lie, live with the lie and fulfill your commitment to that pig!

Video #2, this is Fodor trying to get away from me and my nasty syringe. Totally heartbreaking to watch.
I made a decision to not make Fodor suffer hoping for a miracle. I should've made the decision earlier but if you've had a pig this big suffering, it's just heartbreaking to watch. He's dehydrated, now won't take the syringe water, meds nothing. Super shallow breaths and another record breaking hot weekend. Hoping I can get an emergency PTS appointment.
Thank you everyone for all your texts of support, concern and offers for help! Doc Parker thinks it's a back issue with some kind of secondary neuropathy so we'll stay with the prednisone for another week. He has absolutely no use of his back legs now. When he turns side to side, they just drag under him. He's still not eating but will take a little syringe liquids so I'm mixing the water from softened food with his meds and he gave me a nice p**p today! I'm not holding out much hope but as long as he lets me syringe feed him, I'm gonna keep trying. Maybe miracles do happen. Hoping for one for my Fodor.
Found a trailer. Thank you Bev! Waiting on Doc Parker to call me, no openings but maybe different meds til I can get him in. Thank you to all for standing by! I appreciate all your outpouring of support!

Does anyone have a livestock trailer that can stand by to take Fodor to the vet? And is anyone available today to help move a 350 lb pig? Not sure I can get an appt but gonna take a PTO day and hope I can move this guy.

Time to find a trailer or figure out how to load him into my van to get him to the vet. Even tho he's drinking, he's not peeing so it's time to call the vet and get him out of this horrid heat.
Fodor's not walking yet but he's finally eating out of his bowl. Will still need to syringe meds tho, I don't think he's getting anything at the bottom of the bowl. Mostly just wants water but it's a great step forward with Vegas staying in the 110+ temps!
My crazy life, never boring that's for sure!

My worst nightmare. My 350 lb Fodor has Dippity Pig Syndrome. Hope it's a 24 hour episode cause it's muggy hot!

I don't know how anyone else is handling this horrid heat but this is absolutely exhausting! Ducky looks like I feel! Out for evening feeding and sweating we go!

Not sure what's worse... blazing heat from hell or less humid heat? Ducky says "Gahhh, let me outta this prison!!!"
I've gotten many texts this last weeks that the piggies are not eating or acting sick and lethargic. It's the heat! Remember that pigs can go a long time without food but only a few days without water before their organs start shutting down. Especially our old piggies... pull back on the pellets and give them lots of watery fruits and veggies! Lots and lots of water, lots of mud and if they'll allow it, give them gentle showers with the hose a few times a day!
Sleep-in Saturday is a bad idea in these temps! And so it starts with the grumpy housepig trying to test her dominance! HOH wars were inevitable with a new 3 year old.
