We installed the outside camera today! We'll be able to watch the birds come in when we have them flying.

- Ignore the ugly plywood, it was the temporary solution to keep rain out. We have the window mostly built for the lower vent just haven't put it on yet.

The boys just barely tolerate eachother most of the time. None of them like when the others are on the floor but I guess today they decided it was too cold and they were chill with eachother.

They have a nice heated loft with heated floors and the hens would rather just hang out outside in the 16° temps... 🤷

A few people have asked how the coming cold temps will effect the pigeons especially since they are on eggs:

1. Pigeons(especially racing homers) adapt quite well to cold temperatures and can thrive in even some of the coldest regions without any outside assistance. They have a lot of downy fluff to help insulate them. Our birds are also on a nice, high quality, medium protein food mixture right now to help keep that energy up in the cold temps.

2. Our lofts do have heat but that is mainly to keep them dry, keep the humidity down and to assist in preventing large temperature shifts (for good health)

3. We will run the loft heater mainly to keep their drinkers from freezing.

4. Ruby and China, our first birds born in our lofts were born during the coldest week of the year last year and this year the quality of our lofts and our birds have greatly increased. Remember these are thoroughbreds, decendents of the best of the best, birds that literally won wars.

It's currently 29° ambiant outside and the smart climate monitor in the loft is reading a balmy 37°

Just a reminder. Southwest Washington Racers Winter Show and Auction is coming up in less than a month. Meet The Birds Monday!

Welcome to our first ever Meet The Birds Monday. Today we highlight Lily's breeding c**k "History" (9457).

"History" comes to us from Tim Farr and has bred some very successful birds for him. This includes the bird we call "Daughter of History" this weekend she was first drop(shared 1st) and a money winner in a big 320 mile final one loft race at The Texas Center's Winter OLR. Daughter Of History was also on the first drop a week ago in the 2nd race of that 3 race series.

Fun fact one of our other hens(Fluff) is also History's daughter.

We have high expectations for History's future children!

Well, we've got healthy birds, paired up and comfortably together in our stock loft. It shouldn't be long now and we will have some babies running around again!!!

Caroline Brumfield says the pigeons are spoiled simply because we have over 250 lbs of feed(and more on the way) and only 6 pigeons... 🤷🏼‍♂️

Lincoln made his own custom pigeon card game out of scrap paper awhile back. So Caroline Brumfield took his drawings and turned it into a real card game for Christmas. He is very excited!

Lincoln and I (AJ) went to the Puget Sound Pigeon Club show today. We were so excited to see the pigeons and meet other pigeon fanciers and talk about pigeons that we didn't get many pictures but here were some of our favorites. Hopefully somebody else got some good pictures we can share.

The ladies arrive this week!!! We are all very excited, especially the boys(birds). Here is a sneak beek, check them out!

Also we ordered some very cheap perches for the breeding loft aviary and actually received some very nice 4 piece perches that can be disassembled for easy cleaning instead of the cheap ones advertised in the listing 😁. It was a very nice surprise to come home to after our vacation!

We've done a lot of changes to the lofts to make a more healthy environment for the new birds. So far the boys are doing very well and we are looking forward to bringing the hens in next week!

Some breeding loft updates, check it out. We are creating a healthier LOVE SHACK for our future breeders!!!

The birds will spend a large majority of their time with the nest boxes open(nest fronts removed) but there are times when pairing up birds, protecting newborns and introducing new birds that they need a safe enclosed space.

Also, the new aviary roof will help keep a dryer more healthy environment for the birds and will also allow our family to have a dry space while we are out with the birds.

Lily Brumfield and I were out with the a new squab today for its first time out and while I was taking these pictures a Cooper Hawk about took my head off trying to get to it. It was crazy!!! The Cooper scattered the young racing birds from the roof, buzzed my head and than landed on the landing board for the breeder loft right next to me. All I could think was "That's not one of my birds..."

We got all 8 that we had out(including the squab) back in. Thankfully Lily knew what was going on and scooped the baby up real fast or the hawk might have got the squab right out from in front of me.
