Tinky-Winky is a special bird. He is Caroline's bird. He went feral and lived in the wild for 1.5 months before returning to Louisiana Perch to complete his training and compete in the series.
Our family, Kyle (the loft manager out there), and the club guys following the race were really hoping to see that bird do something special. I consider 16th place in a race with 0 birds on the day a big accomplishment in its final race. Tinky Winky is definitely not a follower!!!
We are also very happy to get Mr Destiny the winner of the 350 mile race home safe. 🎉🎉🎉
Our birds from the live basketing for tomorrow's 200 mile race at Louisiana Perch One Loft Race! It's going to be a great opportunity for our birds to prove they can shine in a tougher headwind race.
Here is a compilation of our(and Farr Racing Pigeons) birds getting hand scanned for tomorrow's 155 mile race at Louisiana Perch One Loft Race. Kyle Martin is out there doing a great job being transparent, caring for the birds well, and letting us see everything on live video.
Watch and you'll see "Tinky Winky", a crowd favorite, first and than Peanut at the end almost got away from Kyle 🤣.
It'll be a tailwind day for the birds tomorrow, we will see what they do!
With all the crummy weather and other factors, we've been sneaking in short training tosses whenever we can. The birds are getting a lot more rest days now, which will help them finish getting through the molt. Over the last few days, we've also upped their feed significantly. We are looking to build them up for the winter.
The time change also has made caring for them interesting. So, the kids have taken on more responsibility for the morning side of caring for the pigeons.
We are all very excited to push through this winter and get the race season started!
The weather, family stuff and work obligations have slowed down training quite a bit this week. The birds are doing very well though.
We did have a hawk come in with the birds on a short toss Wednesday. The attack was caught on camera. All the birds eventually made it in unharmed. I think the 2 birds who didn't trap immediately and got caught out with the hawk reacted well and learned a valuable lesson.
We were able to use Rock Biter(the dropper) for the first time to get the 2 birds that got stuck out to come down and trap pretty quick despite being spooked by the hawk. So, for those people who asked how the dropper works watch the 2nd half of this video.
Just a short toss today. We had to meet the breeder of the rescued fancy pigeon. He picked up "Inferno" in Spanaway. We released the birds and had to race to our dog Zelda's vet appointment. 28 of 29 birds made it in almost exactly 15 minutes. The last bird was 1-2 minutes late. They're ready to go 20 miles tomorrow!
28/30 birds came in from the east(the direction they were tossed). They made it in 23 minutes from 13.5 miles. 1 additional bird was 14 minutes later. We are still waiting on the last bird to arrive. Notice the white bird arrive and trap first in the video, that's the 3rd training toss in a row that that bird has arrived first on.
The birds look to have come in from the South West having overshot the loft a little bit. They didn't appear to have circled the loft at all but instead landed immediately and went right in. 5 miles and fully trapped in in about 13 minutes. Another great toss. Looking forward to 10 miles tomorrow!!!
The birds flew quite a bit today and got harassed by a red-tail. Lily said she saw one get hit or as she said "bumped into" but the entire race team made it back uninjured.
