We are home and recovered from Boston Terrier Nationals in Tampa, Florida. What a week it was! Beautiful dogs, connecting with fellow breeders, and coming together to celebrate the best dogs of the year.
I had the absolute honor of handling Miles that week for my dear friends Ellen Tinseth and Laurie Cowhig. Miles won Best of Breed, Select Dog, Best Junior in Futurity, and Award of Merit over the week!
For our lady babies (Sugar and Cider), this was their first official show, which is a big ask for such young girls, not to mention some serious travel from Seattle to Tampa. They took it in stride and I'm thrilled with their appearance. This was such a heartfelt trip, and I'm so grateful we could honor M***a properly. ❤️
Sugar won her class several days, both girls were in the biggest classes. Cider was a bit more squirrelly as puppies sometimes are and was in the ribbons most days. Which is a fantastic accomplishment for not only their first show, but a National at that. Miss Sugar went on to win best Puppy in Futurity, and then GRAND FUTURITY WINNER 2024. Ooooh the tears flowed.
I also finally got to meet Brian and Reneé Rubenacher in person!!!! Bucket list item for sure.
I already can't wait for next year.

We are beyond proud of Stanley and his parents Andrew and Casey for finishing Stanley's AKC Champion title! This is Andrew's first Champion, and he showed Stanley to all of his points himself.

Over and over I’ve seen owners struggling with the same issue. The early phases of the reactivity sequence seem benign, or at the very least so mild that it would be unfair to correct them for it.

Unfortunately, these early phases or stages are anything but benign. They’re the required initial steps your dog must go through to get to the dreaded big stuff that all of you struggling with seriously reactive dogs know so well.

Which is why if you your dog has reactivity issues, the very best practice you can get into is requiring your dog to simply keep their mind—and eyes—on their own business. Scanning for trouble and “mad-dogging” other dogs has to be removed from the menu.

If you learn to correct your dog for any untoward looking, and you do so with tools your dog cares enough about to actually stop the looking, you can actually stop this terribly predictable reactivity sequence in its tracks.

After all, that’s what most great dog trainers do, and it’s what most amazed owners think of as “magical” timing. Alas, there is no magic, just a keen awareness of how all this plays out.

How to Relax Your Reactive Dog In 10 Min A Day

The goal isn’t to create zombie dogs who have no personality, no fun, no life. The goal is to help our dogs find a balance which enables them to have the highest quality of life.

Just because dogs will run, walk, play, pace, bark, chew all day, doesn’t mean it’s what’s best for them. We all know that humans who have only one speed: “go 100% at all times” are often severely compromised both mentally and physically, and usually burn out…with ugly consequences. Yet we allow our dogs to be motion/action junkies, and never think to consider what negatives might arise from not knowing how to simply turn it all off.

Most dogs we see in our program have never been helped to learn how to turn off. Their owners have thought the never ending “go” was simply being a dog. So we see jumping, obsessive barking and licking, counter surfing, reactivity, destruction, hyper-territorial/overly suspicious, anxiety, nervousness, and countless other symptoms.

And strangely, for most of these dogs, once some simple rules and structure, and some enforced calm are made part of their daily lives, the laundry list of behavior issues—which we never actually addressed specifically/individually…evaporate.

Does the lack of frenzy and the ability to turn off “fix” everything on its own? Of course not, but the amount of issues that it does resolve would astound most if they could see the transformation, relief, and improved wellbeing over and over again as we’re able to.

Perhaps it’s the missing piece to you and your dog’s peace.

Now it’s Murphy’s turn to need a new foster. We are having such a difficult time finding placement for special needs dogs of ANY even mild compromise, so finding a special place for this guy has not been easy at all. We have exhausted all of our possible vet med fosters with no positive outcome, reached out to other rescues, and even asked all our existing fosters that might be equipped to manage this guy’s specialized care. We have found no one willing to take his case on. So now we try social media and pray for something magical to happen for this poor, deserving boy. Will you please help us by sharing his story and sweet face?

Murphy was an Animal Control seizure case last Fall when he was found dragging his hind end over gravel, and weighing less than half of the body weight he should have been. He was given to us to attempt to rehab, but that process has been a very slow and painful one. He is a big boy that requires strength to manage, and as hard as he tries, not every day has been better than his last. 💔 Murphy loves people and is the sweetest guy, and his recent MRI results show that his body ***should just about fully recover, but he needs someone devoted to his care and his rehab and that’s a tall order to fill. Murphy gets along with other dogs, but wants to overpower small males dogs (he has not been neutered yet as we were originally told he would need his hormones to recover). He is not safe around cats. He is about five years old. Murph is mobile (we will post video in the comments), but really needs time and a person with that same amount of time and patience to provide his PT exercises. Please help us by sharing this post and pray with us that someone out there exists who is meant to be his person. All physical therapy appointments and medical care (& food, etc) will be covered by PACK.

We love you big guy and we hope we find your perfect place very soon! ❤️‍🩹🙏🏻

Little miss Peach had a fantastic weekend a couple weeks ago at the Puyallup cluster.
She showed in 3 shows, and managed to pick up both her majors in her 2nd weekend out!
She was also handled by a Junior handler, which was a great experience.
Miss Peachy received - Winners Bitch (2x), Best of Winners, Best Puppy (2x), & Best Bred By Exhibiter (2x)!
Excited to continue on with her. 💖🐾

I've learned the hard way that anyone can call themselves a trainer, and there's no governing body regarding dog training, so please do your homework first! Your dogs wellbeing depends on it.

One of our own has suffered an unimaginable loss late last night. They've lost everything, including some of their dogs.
