🙏 Thank you for your service Office… enjoy retirement!
Today, we wanted to share an important update about our beloved Lake County K9, Dax. Last month, we were saddened to learn that Dax had sustained injuries during a suspect chase. During this past month, he has been on the road to recovery, going through physical therapy and taking time off to heal. Even with the extensive care and support from his community, his veterinarian and Sheriff John D. Idleburg determined that it would be safer for Dax to retire for his physical well-being.
Dax's journey as a K9 officer spans nearly 10 years, during which he has showcased unwavering bravery, dedication, and passion for his duties. He's a true hero in every sense of the word, having won countless awards, participated in hundreds of demonstrations, and earned numerous certifications, including six USPCA Regional Championships and two Tracking Exceptional Certifications.
Now, Dax will begin a new chapter in his life, retiring alongside his partner in crime, Deputy Forlenza. Together, they'll enjoy the rest and love that retirement brings, surrounded by family and cherished memories.
Deputy Forlenza beautifully summed up Dax's impact, stating, "There is no way to quantify or properly express what Dax’s service has meant... His service has been exemplary, and most importantly, he has saved countless lives, including my own."
To K9 Dax: We thank you for your unwavering bravery, hard work, and true dedication to keeping our community safe. You are a hero in every sense of the word, and we wish you nothing but the best in your well-deserved retirement.
