BARK-A-THON to Benefit Dog Park
Join us this Friday at Veterans Memorial Park
A Day for Our Dogs Bark-A-Thon Fundraiser will be held on Friday, June 15th at 5:30 pm at Veterans' Memorial with all proceeds going toward the fencing for the proposed Watertown Parks and Recreation Dog Park.
Start the evening by enjoying The Town Clerk's Eighth Annual Coolest Canine Contest and Bow Wow Olympics all officiated by Scot Haney from Channel 3 – WFSB who has graciously offered to return as The Master of Ceremonies to judge the contests, announce the winners and honor "The Kennel Club" corporate contributors.
For the diva canine who acts like a celebrity, search for Samantha Robillard. She will be wandering around snapping candid shots of our dogs as they enjoy their special day. In addition, Watertown High School's Audio Visual Department is sending a student volunteer to film the event.
For the fashionable canine, stop by and visit Amanda Vaz and searchTia Designs, dog clothing sewn in Naugatuck. Buy an outfit or bandana and strut your mutt around the park! A percentage of sales will be donated to Bark-A-Thon.
For the canine with a discerning palate, stop to talk to John Kasabucki from Woodbury Pet Commons while your pup enjoys some healthful treats . Bring the labels from your pet foods for a free nutritional analysis. (Consider bringing the actual container of food and donate it to the Town Clerk's Food Bank Drive.) Ask about the Haute Dog Hotel and Posh Pooch.
Jennifer Ayers, Practice Manager, and the team from Naugatuck Veterinary Hospital will be happy to provide information about flea and tick treatments, the importance of keeping your dog's vaccinations up to date and why an annual visit to your vet prolongs your pet's life.
Would your doggie diva like canine spa treatments? Renada Rickevicius from Natural Pet Oasis located in Oakville will have a station for a canine "mani / pedi" for a suggested donation of $10 to the Dog Park.
Brian Kilcommons of Great Pets has graciously offered to do an interactive seminar with pet owners who attend with their family pet. Brian Kilcommons has published nine books and is an internationally renowned dog behavior counselor and trainer. For over three decades his mission has been to improve the relationship people have with their dogs. He obtained the #1 spot on the Top Ten Dog Trainers in the US list compiled by bestdogtrainers.org. This is a special treat for Watertown canines who wish to correct the bad habits of their loving owners!
Guiding Eyes for the Blind and Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities (ECAD), two fantastic organizations which train service dogs, will be present for demonstrations of how Man's Best Friend can serve specific health needs and assist with activities of daily living so a person can remain independent.
Amy Hanson and the team from Waterbury PetSmart will be offering dog toys and treats.
Tyler O'Neil from the Riverton Fire Department will be present with his Fire Mascot in Training, a Dalmatian puppy named Kenna. Come and find out if Kenna will jump through the hoop on command!
Attend Bark-A-Thon and meet other dog loving members of the community. Strut Your Mutt around the park and enjoy some doggone fun and educational activities along the way. Play the Bark-A-Thon Scavenger Hunt. Guess How Many Bones in the Jar.
We promise that there will be lots of tail wagging for those who attend and many licks (from the dogs) for those who donate to the Dog Park!
We are begging corporate contributors to join "The Kennel Club" to help with this project but we truly need a little tail wagging support from our dog loving residents to "Git "Er Done". Be the Leader of Your Pack and "hound" some donations from family, friends, neighbors and coworkers to support your participation in Bark-A-Thon. . All checks should be payable to: Town of Watertown-Dog Park. Place your donations in an envelope labeled Bark-A-Thon with your name and address so you get credit for the contribution. Deliver your contribution envelope to the Bark-A-Thon Sign-In Booth on the day of the event. PS: If you cannot attend Bark-A-Thon, mail or personally deliver the contribution to: Watertown Parks and Recreation, 61 Echo Lake Road, Watertown 06795
