Metropolitan Police Service
Game, set, match
The Met have a very strong forehand in supporting one of Britain’s biggest and most prestigious sporting events – The Wimbledon Championships.
As they prepare to start the first match, our police officers and their trusted companions have already been up since the early hours to ensure the first serve is ace!
Thousands of people flock to watch one of London’s biggest summer events. Our teams are there to reassure everyone that this annual event will be safe and secure for those attending over the next two weeks.
Superintendent Jo Edwards, who is in charge of the policing of this year's Championships, said:
"Hundreds of thousands of people descend on this corner of southwest London each year and have a great time at The Championships - that is exactly what we want this year.
"We have worked closely with the All England Lawn Tennis Club and other partners over many years, building up an excellent working relationship to ensure we deliver a safe and secure event.
"The Met has unparalleled experience in policing big events and delivering a safe environment for people to come and enjoy themselves - that will be our job this year and one which we are looking forward to carrying out again this year."
