Big Dogs at Large was started to fill a frustrating void in the pet gear market, where a majority of gear and clothing sizing charts have a Border Collie or Pitbull size as XL and beyond! Big Dogs at Large is run by myself and my partner, and our quality control, Zap Zap Raygun and Bam Bam Boombox. They test any gear we're considering selling until we're all satisfied it meets the mark. We stock s
turdy leashes that won't break, rust or give you rope burn. The harnesses we stock are designs that promote wearing comfort and/or leash control. We review different brands and types of products extensively and only stock items we recommend for larger or stronger than usual breeds. We promote humane dog sports and educate about the ethics of using dogs for racing or baiting. Big Dogs at Large hopes to support local dog rescues and charities around NZ, starting with Auckland where we're based. We plan to do that by donating gear to be sold in online auctions and offering wholesale prices of gear to rescues and charities. We can share adoptable dogs on behalf of the rescues, and use our growing network to find foster homes and dog walkers. As we start offering more gear, we will be running market stalls in dog friendly areas showcasing our gear to try on (and possibly hire, eg dog sport gear like scooter, rig and dog harness) and offering freshly made pupcakes – dog cupcakes, GF vegan (also avail as larger dog bday cakes) and other GF dog treats. We are also looking for a talented textiles technician (aka anyone who is passionate about sewing and dogs) to add to our custom line of dog fashion which will be launched at the start of 2017.
