This adorable, sweet, smaller pittieX boy is looking for a special someone give him a second chance. He was recently taken to one of our wonderful vet clinics to be euthanized because his owner never gave him the structure and training he needs. He’s great with other dogs, he’s afraid of cats, he is super sweet. He just doesn’t know what he is supposed to do. He is eight months old and only weighs 32 1/2 pounds. Best guess is he will top out at probably 45- 50 pounds max. we suspect with a consistent training schedule he will be a wonderful companion. If you are interested in adopting him, he is fully vaccinated and neutered so he is ready to go! Call or text 505-699-0334. They are calling him “cowboy.”

Now we get to see everyone’s sweet face.

They are all trying to stand up and look over the edge of the tub now. Stella doesn’t understand that she’s front end heavy. Sutton is the biggest so it’s easy for him. Little Sadie is a tough little one even she makes it up. Stella will get there. It’s just gonna take a little longer

After just a day of being on the supplemental milk and kibble, everyone is back to gaining an appropriate amount of weight. Mom is enjoying the puppy food as well. After a hearty meal, it’s playtime!

It’s always interesting sometimes when you introduce puppies to kibble, they just look at you and say “I don’t want that. “ These guys dove right in.

Tonight we started on some puppy milk, soaked kibble. Weigh-ins are now every other day and only one puppy, I think it was Sutton, the white one with the brown on his head, gained an appropriate amount of weight. One of the puppies had stalled and the others gained just a little bit. They are 3 1/2 weeks and they have teeth and that’s when it starts to get uncomfortable for mom. She still has plenty of milk but she’s not feeding as often as she might. So we’ll just supplement mom‘s milk and mom just chowed down the puppy food and that’s fine. It’s good for her too

I received a call asking for some help with a medical bill. We only assist in emergencies. We do not help with routine care like dental, etc. The caller understood that, it wasn’t a problem, but what was a problem for me was that they wanted to adopt a cat from Stray Hearts. And in the adoption papers is the medical report Indicating that this cat would need extensive dental work. You’re looking at close to $1000 for a full mouth dental. How is this OK? Will Stray Hearts have an in-house veterinarian soon? No animal should be adopted out requiring any kind of extensive medical, IMHO. Is it me?

I took a day today as a mental break, to go ski on this absolutely gorgeous day. Sometime late afternoon I received word that a friend was in the process of leaving this planet after a brief and unidentified illness. On my last run down the mountain I was grateful to be absolutely alone as I had to stop and just weep for this loss. Carol Ann Velade was a huge supporter of all things animal rescue in northern New Mexico. Particularly Taos and the surrounding area. Every event was made so much better because of her presence. She was always there to do whatever needed to be done and she did it with a beautiful smile. She was a very bright light and taken far too soon.

And so it begins.

Practicing sitting today and then they’re all pooped out. Sometimes mom just comes over to the tub and watches them. Almost 3 weeks old now they don’t need to be fed as often and she can take some breaks. Personalities are starting to develop and show. They like to chew on each other’s face. Or particularly with the boys they will suckle ge****ls. Sutton and Stella Sutton is the orange and white and Stella is the funny white one with the little black speckles, are both cutting teeth the others not yet.
