Meet Elvis ❤️ Some of you that have been here for awhile may recognize this handsome face. Elvis was adopted out by us to a loving human a couple of years back, and due to some personal/unexpected circumstances that have come up, his human has reached out to us about finding Elvis a new home. Please no judgmental comments, we know that Elvis’ best interest is at the forefront of this heavy decision.

We are currently seeking a foster home for Elvis while he waits to meet a new family. We are open to this foster either being local in the Eugene/Springfield area, OR in the Portland area, as we now have a vet up there that we’ve been working with. I’m going to try to forget the lows of the dogs we could not save today and focus on the one that made it out meet Cora AKA little baby she is a super sweet 11 year old gray pity that was owner surrendered back in July because they were moving or didn’t have time or whatever the reason was they didn’t want to give this dog a home anymore. She spent 5 months in the shelter.she had bad skin. ear infections and had ringworm and yet she still stayed happy and sweet.well today she had her Freedom walk and went to her forever foster home. we’re so happy we could get for the best of the rest of her life.

LOS ANGELES! READ. SHARE. SUPPORT— :
There is a crisis in our Animal Services shelters, with severe overcrowding subjecting thousands of animals to dire and inhumane conditions. Today in Council, I introduced a motion calling for an immediate and indefinite moratorium on issuing new breeding permits. While there are many factors that have contributed to the overcrowding crisis, the issuance of breeding permits disincentivizes adoption from our shelters and has the potential to increase inflow into our already crowded shelters. The motion calls for the City Attorney's office to prepare an ordinance amending the Los Angeles Municipal Code to place an immediate and indefinite moratorium on the issuance of breeding permits, and requests a report back from Animal Services outlining details around illegal breeding, including how comparable cities have addressed breeding permitting concerns.

There's much more to address in order to truly solve this crisis. We're holding a special Neighborhoods and Community Enrichment meeting on Wednesday, September 27th at 8:30am to talk about the state of our City's animal shelters and what steps LA Animal Services and the City at-large need to take to protect the health and well-being of the animals who are in our shelters.

FOUND SENIOR NEEDS FOSTER ASAP To avoid shelter! Contact if you can help. SHARE! Someone messaged that they found a dog in the streets of South Gate. They don't want to take the dog to the shelter because they fear they will kill her. The female dog appears to be a senior chihuahua mix. The person who found her is not sure if she is injured but states that the dog has a skin condition. Besides that the dog is very calm & was allowed to be picked up. If anyone knows someone that can help please send them this post! If you know anyone willing to foster this precious girl please let me know!

It’s official! Our foster dog Chuck has found his forever home! From the Amazing Frankie, Lola, and Friends Rescue :

Is this the cutest adoption photo ever!?!? Upside down Chuck has been adopted by the lovely Vega family. ❤️ This guy was on borrowed time at a very over crowded Los Angeles shelter. Sadly, every shelter is over capacity so any dog that makes it out is a blessing but when it’s a pit bull, that is perfection, that literally had 24 more hours to live, it makes it that much more meaningful. 💕

Thank you guys for supporting my rescue efforts. Thanks to his foster. - happy life gorgeous boy. You deserve it. ❤️

SOS!!! These 4 dogs are *rescue only* and on kill list.
Do they deserve to die? That is what happens to most RO dogs, at least at Downey. Not many rescues show up for these dogs and they are always the first ones to be killed. They were failed and dumped at the shelter to die. All pics and infor from .for.love

Yes, they were ALL owner surrenders 💔 These are good dogs that truly need extra help and a second chance at a good life which so far they didn’t get at all.
Most importantly they need serious fosters as well as rescues to help them before they are killed and forgotten. Polar, Scooby and Toby are already past deadline 💔

Allegedly killed a cat, no one witnessed the attack. He is scared and timid yet interested in other dogs. He showed no concerning behavior at the shelter. Doing his own thing in a calm and mellow way.

Wary of strangers. Per owner, friendly with other dogs and children and people he knows, housebroken and good in car. Understandably fearful and uneasy after being dumped in a strange loud place.

Dumped bc reportedly has seizures. Med notes say no seizures witnessed in days following arrival. Just a young beautiful pup unsocialized and gotten rid of to die bc he is of course timid and scared at the shelter.

Dumped for alleged bite when being fed. Affectionate sweet senior dog that craves attention. Tolerated dogs without issue and kept quietly to himself. Didn’t show any resource guarding issues either during resource guarding assessment.

Sweet, Senior Paddington is looking for his forever home! He’s currently in foster with
- Paddy is wonderful with humans of all ages
- He loves other dogs
- Is crate & housetrained,
- He walks beautifully on the leash,
- Paddy enjoys playing and hiking, but also snuggling,
- He has a $0 adoption fee with his medical care covered for life if vet in San Diego is used!

This one goes out to sweet Louis who passed away today. He was the sweetest, softest soul. He was protector, cuddler and rock. I’ll forever cherish the times his languid energy warmed up the office, the times I walked him down 14th street, and the times I got to hug his shaggy head. I love you, Louis. You were the prince of all princes. 🐶❤️💪🏼🙌🏼. Please Send her some love on her post. She can use it. From : Today I lost my best friend, Louis. He was intuitive, intelligent, sophisticated and he had a regalness about him that was unmatchable - even on his last day.
I recently came across a quote that has brought me to tears: The dog you get in your twenties, who healed a heart he didn’t break, watched you become your best self, and showed you the purest form of love”.

I am thankful for him beyond words. He did heal me and brought me back to life during my toughest times and stood by me through all of my life changes … remaining my rock for twelve years straight. I was never alone, never scared, never intimidated, brave and always loved with Louis by my side. Everything was simply better with him there.

I loved him for his whole life but I will miss him for the rest of mine.

I had heard her name before by friends who know a lot more about animal rights and have been more involved, for a lot longer than I have. And, maybe because of my activity in attempting to get dogs adopted in Los Angeles, I was invited to hear her speak recently. I loved her tenacity in fighting for animal rights and she sounded impressive. She also made a solid commitment not only to help the animals of Los Angles, but promised to serve the public, the best staff, and current, past, & future volunteers. Apparently, one of her first order of business would be reinstating volunteers from the past upon review.

However, before I could even consider signing a petition, I decided to do a little internet digging... I found glowing articles in Laguna Beach Magazine and Medium. I'm pretty sure there are more. I guess if the links don't work, Google “Judie Mancuso” and the magazine names.

Prana is 5Y F pit bull who came to the Downey Care Center on 2/20/23 as a stray.
She was noticed to have a firm large mass on the L side of her face that is displacing her left eye and encompassing most of her L face. The medical staff suspects it is most likely cancerous and would need further work up to be treated properly.
She is a very friendly dog.

All smiles handsome boy JAKE is ready for his forever home. He is so beautiful. Swoon. ❤️

Perfect little pocket pittie weighing about 50 pounds. Small but mighty and just wants to belong. We all want a sense of belonging. Jake is about two years old and is definitely tolerant and relaxed around other calm, balanced dogs. He’s currently being fostered with another dog and is doing great.

We did a little training session with our friends and Jake’s great foster dad - it’s so important for me to set my dogs up for success in both their foster homes AND forever homes. We try to learn as much as we can about the dog so we can pass that along to the potential adopter.

Jake’s a bit mysterious. A chill vibe. I love it. He’s a little bit aloof in the beginning, but opens up quickly. I think he just had so much alone time in the first couple of years of his life that he’s just learning that people and dogs are great. He gives soft little tail wags, and would love to join you on family vacations and on weekend hikes. I feel like he’s seeing the world for the very first time.

Bellamy appeared more at ease around the handlers and was highly avoidant of other dogs.
No other dogs recommended.

Bellamy will require continued socialization and confidence building.
Due to handling sensitivity and unpredictable behavior displayed in the previous home, she will be rescue only.

Bellamy was greeted by the calm dogs and appeared overwhelmed going to handler for reassurance. Bellamy jumped on the handler and began to solicit petting appearing relaxed. Anytime a dog would approach Bellamy she would scurry away from them. Bellamy was placed in a yard for alone time and she appeared more at ease exploring freely with a relaxed demeanor. Bellamy would bark at the handler in the adjacent yard for their attention and would solicit petting through the barrier.

Previous owners stated that Bellamy started becoming aggressive towards her and her family. Owner took Bellamy to the vet and they told her the dog was an anxious dog and as time passed she continue to get worse. When Owner would try to pet her she would began to growl and multiple times try to bite her and her nephew. Today Bellamy almost bit her in the face so she surrendered her over.

BEYOND URGENT - Little Man and Lady are RED LISTED and likely only have until 11/17 at 4pm. PLEASE SHARE!! From

These two pups ended up on this list because they are exhibiting symptoms of FAS. They both have had extremely limited engagement with staff since arriving at the shelter and being back in the OBS they have had no engagement from volunteers. Little Man was last out of his kennel 10/17/22, and Lady was last out of her kennel 08/22/22 - 86 days!

Seeing the sadness in Little Man’s eyes as he quietly peers from the cubby in the back of of his kennel is just heartbreaking. Little Man is a big boy who came to the shelter back in March as an owner surrender due to land lord issues. A staff member who has been working with Little Man has shown that he just needs patience and time to trust, and they were even considering moving him back to the main kennels, but now he is out of time.

Lady is still just a baby and she has been really scared while at the shelter - her face in this picture says it all. Lady is dog friendly and is currently kenneled with another pup we shared recently, Hunter. Having a kennel mate has actually helped Lady feel more secure and confident, so if you have a pup and are looking to add to your family, we sure hope you will consider Lady; we think she would love the structure and comfort of a loving home with a furry sibling. Lady has displayed significant signs of FAS while at the shelter and she really needs a family who will give her leadership, space, patience and time to learn how to be a dog and how to trust again.
