Springfield Library Cats Dewey's a Hurricane refugee who landed at the Springfield Library. He is sweet, mellow, & lovable. T One of them said "I'd take him home if he were neutered.

I survived Hurricane Matthew by hiding out around the Springfield Library. Some very nice ladies would pet me, some fed me, some made sure that I had clean water and didn't have to rely on the creek behind the building. The building is nice, has covered porches (3 of them) but it wasn't "home". The closest thing to home was when the kids would come for story time or to get new books. Then they wou

ld pick me up, love on me, hug me, and generally remind me that I was loved. Yesterday, the nice ladies were talking about what a lover boy I was. I just can't afford to do that right now." - clearly my original family loved me but didn't understand the importance of that. Then, another very nice lady said "If you will take him home, I'll pay for the neuter and rabies shot. And, I'll help with food and stuff." After that, another nice lady said "We have to call him Dewey, though, because he is a Library cat". Another said "I have a crate in my car I don't need right now, we can get it to put you in there, so you can go to your new home." I didn't understand that she was just trying to help, and I scratched her. I'm sorry :( but the lady who was taking me home was used to cats and got me safely in the crate. Then, another of the ladies went to the store and got me my own towel AND a very nice, very soft blankie for me to sleep on. I love my blankie. You can see it in the cover picture. Another woman, one with a cute little boy, said "I think Dewey needs to come to my house and be my baby's best friend." That lady lives next door to the woman who was taking me home, so that was nice. Finally, the Guyton Animal Hospital was called, and told my situation, and they were kind enough to not only work me in for my neuter so I could come to my new home today, but they made sure I had plenty of pain medicine. After all of that, more of the ladies at the library, and their children, offered to contribute for whatever I needed. They were so happy I was going to have a new home AND not have to worry about hiding from predators and/or animal control. One of the other of the residents who share the driveway with my new "mom" has said that if I don't work out with Mom, or with The other Lady who wants me, He'll take me home with him. I think I'm being fought over ;)

Here's a good thought!

Stay safe, give good thoughts and prayers, and remember to give to the groups who give the fastest and the most of what you give directly to the communities they are serving. Obviously, LCIF is our preference, but there are others, just do your homework! Remember, where Loving Individuals Offer Needed Service, Lions make the world (or or corner of it) a better place to be.

Stay safe peeps. We might have dodged the bullet, but there are a lot of folks (and furfolks) out there in the middle of this mess. Pray and remember to be kind.

Thanks Folks for helping!

Kudos to Lions Scott & Jennifer Eisenhart, Bill & Chel Young, MaryAnn Barbieri, Rick Mizell, Sheila LeClair, Linda Larson, and Raine Mixon. Also to incoming member Marcelle Cail, and Lions Family Members Beth & Nathan Patterson and Kevin Mixon & children. Because of you, we were able to raise $421.79 for LCIF Hurricane Harvey Relief. We also served almost 400 hotdogs (with drinks) and helped about 300 children play games and receive prizes. Not to mention face painters extraordinaire Raine & Chel. Finally thanks to Bass Pro Ship for making this possible!

As a hurricane refuge myself, I am whole heartedly behind this effort! Help these folks out y'all so those wet cats can get home!

Tomorrow, we have a follow up day for the Bass Pro Hometown Days. 12-5. Please come out and support us as we raise money for LCIF Hurricane Harvey Relief. Today, the crew working raised $217.44 Good Job folks!

So... Dewey seems to have found a new home. He wasn't happy at my house, and made his displeasure known. But he has shown up on my next door neighbor's porch, pretty much acting like he did at the library. Loving, hungry, and ready to be friends. She called to make sure he was available, (as I have so many who float through my yard) and I told her to enjoy and love him. I hope he likes it there as much as he liked the library!

Well, I discovered that I don't even have to rattle the door or meow loud. I just have to be sitting there when they open the door for work. They took pictures of me today, and I"ll put them up tomorrow... when the humans are not so tired.

19/01/2017

Well, when I pitched my fit, and pooped all over the house (including on my blanket - even though I could get to the litter box) to make them let me go outside to stay, I didn't know that they'd believe me and now I am outside to stay. I really don't want in, but it would have been nice to check out that cute little girl cat that was at the door looking out at me... ;)

discovery today was that if i rattle the screen door, and meow rreal loud, they would come out and feed me and pet me. i bet i try that again. it doesn't matter that i ate already once this morning ;)

So, I discovered, that if I come out of hiding, and wind around Jessika's feet, she'll pet me. I spent some quality time the last couple of days getting some loving

10/01/2017

I've been in hiding since I escaped from Jessika. I really did not like being inside. I had been outside too long. The family was "worried" but yesterday, I put it to them. Jennifer was leaving for work and I had managed to get the driveway to myself. She backed up into "my space" making me move, so I gave her the "stink eye" as she drove off. And yes, it was me, Johnny, my adopted brother was on the other side on her porch. I figured I better let y'all know I was ok.

I'm really liking my new home!! I get all sorts of attention and love!!! I jumped up next to my new mommy and curled up by her hip! I rubbed my nose on her face!! I really like her!! Thor still isn't sure about me and I'm not so sure about him either he's huge!! But we stay away from each other 😐 most of the time I stay put on my blankie and keep to myself ☺ well goodnight everyone! I'm off to kitty dreamland! ❤

Update: I don't get along with Thor 😞 he was trying to see what I was and I didn't like it. I clawed mommy and scared Thor..

08/12/2016

Tonight, I went home with my new mommy (across the driveway). I get to move in with Thor (my canine brother), Weston (my human baby), and Jessika, my new mommy. She's going to help me write some of my posts now. I'm a happy kitty. My new granny (was my new mommy) washed my blankie, and I am snuggled up in it.

08/12/2016

Tonight is the first night at my new home! The puppy isn't sure what to think of me. I definitely don't know what to think of him either..he's a big puppy!! But my new mommy is keeping me safe ❤ goodnight everyone!!

Well, I have to change my name to mud. They let me run the house today while they were out, and about the time they came home, I decided the floor at the foot of their bed would be a better litter box than my litter box. My new dad is holding his nose and very unhappy with me right now :(

Dewey has had a good couple of days recovering from the neutering, and settling into his "temporary forever home" as Jessika is working on getting his permanent forever home situated for him. He'll be sharing space with a big baby (Thor the doberman) who seems to be content to ignore Dewey, and Dewey ignores Thor & a little baby Weston, who is only 2 months old and human.

he is enjoying being warm, eating dry and the occasional bit of wet food, and all the water he can hold. AND, best of all, he's decided "his" litterbox is acceptable. It was hit and miss there for a short bit.
