Dear Lovely Visitor.

While you look over the gate, giggle in excitement, ogle at the dogs standing at the terrace and looking down at you, click a pic etc. pls be guided, that there is a dog who bites people’s toes from under the gate, and she particularly hates the sound of giggling or general happiness.

A general goodwill tip -
Always look down before entering the HOB’s.

RAJAPALAYAMs - Worlds Best Jogging Companions … or the Worst?

As I started piling up the daily miles on each of my adult dog, I realised I was spending much over an hour every morning riding the scooter with them, and wondered why I wasn’t running with at least one of them. Why waste that time and not fine tune it better? I mean, am out there, why am I just sitting?

I’ve never been a cardio guy, I love weight training both Indian old school ones and the western gyms.

With the dogs taking my mind space both mentally and physically I wasn’t hitting the ‘western’ gym anymore, at least not after April this year.

I had receded back to the karlakatai (mudgar or mudgal in the north) kettlebells and body weight workout because I just needed 30-45 mins daily post working the dogs and it fit perfectly. I started removing the scooter run for one dog daily and was running with that dog.

Why one? The most perfect one(s) ….
Archer and Medusa.

These two run perfectly in sync with their human with no interest to break away or even make the human feel inadequate.

The Worst? By worst here I don’t mean because he is bad, but because he makes the human feel like a slow poke - Bheem.
This guy just maintains 25-30 kmph at all times.
He will turn and look back at me like I am a sorry excuse for an anchor holding his submarine up, stopping him from diving into the depths and his element. This guy is for the elite runners.

Me being a guy who loves weight training to the moon and back, just wants to cover 4 kms in 40 mins, really slow and relaxed, meditative.
This comes perfectly from Archer and Medusa.

Though not a Rajapalayam by birth but a Rajapalayam by ’self identification’, Cleo the Classic Bull Terrier earns the title of being the worst jogging companion on earth because she seems to think every run is a hunt or a walk into the zombie land.

She is like one of those celeb bodyguards who ruthlessly push the fans away as a star walks in.
She thinks that’s her job.

Any poor chap going about his morning walk will be met with sheer aggression as she asks them to take a side till I pass.
Squirrels too must be despatched to god with perfect precision, how dare they climb trees while we pass?

Birds? No flying under 20 feet from my walking path, she says. Yes she actually jumps trying to catch them during the run 🤣

If Cleo could talk, I imagine this…

Anyway, Having dogs or a job or a family, isn’t a excuse for not having a fitness routine for sure.

My daily routine
- 30-45 mins weights - Karlakattai, Kettlebells and Bodyweight, recently making attempts to add Hindu dands (google it or follow Old skool physical culture for veteran weekend warriors). I want to add a gym day too as it was my mainstay for over decades, as Nothing replaces the super heavy bench press, I love and miss it. It’s psychological actually.

- 3-4 kms running at the most relaxed pace possible, so it’s mostly always Archer, usually takes 40 mins. I love this dog for how calm and cool he is.

- 18/6 Intermittent Fasting (I have no fat loss goals)
Last meal for the day is by 830 PM, and first meal for the day by 230 PM. In this gap I have a few litres of black coffee (no sugar added, these days)
if I could take black coffee intravenous, I would 👀

- SLEEP, the most ignored part of a fitness routine.
‘Do not force yourself to wake up early, force yourself to go to bed early’ -Doc Louis.
That will remain, the single most impactful quote on ‘sleep’ in my living memory.
Still a WIP, but managing 7.5 hours, goal being 8.

Anyway, It is indeed the greatest feel to be able to add my dogs into a fitness routine.

Taking Archer the for the runs has another reason.
Cleo is a hyperactive (over) protector, Archer won’t do the ‘am a mad dog, don’t even come near’ part, he will deliver the blow when the need arises, not even worth a debate.
I know it.
A perfectly calm naturally protective estate guardian dog, is the perfect Rajapalayam temperament IMHO.
