Well done to those joining us for our last Toodyay Tuesday group class of the year.
Enjoy your festive season and I hope to catch up with you all when we return in 2024.
We got out for a quick 5km this morning before breakfast. What an awsome way to start the day.
When its hot we like to head out early and I aim to be back at the car by the time it reaches 30 Degrees. Keep them safe!
Blade was awsome again today, what a sweet lad!
X L Bullies have been in the media lately with restrictions being put in place in some countries. I have really enjoyed working with Blade and others of his breed. Each individual dog is different much like humans, we are all different. I think we should be cautious of unfair prejudice.
Mocha had a fantastic session today, we continued to work on some human reactivity issues and it went well.
Keep up the good work folks, well done.
Well done to participants at our 2nd group class at Alex's Dog Development School at Swan Valley Vets last night.
A fun session.
What a cracking 1st session this evening at Alex's Dog Development School this evening at Swan Valley vets.
Great team!
It was nice to see Peppa again yesterday, what a sweet girl.
She is getting some support to reduce reactivity. It was warming to see her play with the family today.
Its nice to get out and about for a spot exploration and exercise.
Tilly and Harley enjoyed their adventure this this morning, as did I.
Why punishment “works” Thanks https://www.facebook.com/rplusdogsbehaviour/
Well done to all participants joining us for Toodyay Tuesday group training this morning.
Great weather and great teams, keep up the good work folks.
Snowy did well during her session this morning despite her teeth hurting a bit.
We practised stays in sit and down, some impulse control, eye contact, long lead walking, Kong use and hide and seek games.
Great team, well done.

It was nice to see Blade and family today for his 2nd session. What a lovely XL Bully.
Today we introduced some target training, down and stay. Smart pup with a very supportive family network.
Keep up the good work folks.
Well done to all the participants in our 2nd group this evening. A good show of numbers and some top notch training was observed. Some big milestones today, well done
A great 1st group at Swan Valley Vets this evening. During Alex's Dog Development School we introduced STAY and the 3 basic variables.
Well done to our 2 teams who joined us, doing the work and getting the results! Keep up the good work.
A big well done to all participants at our Toodyay Tuesday group class this morning.
Today we practised stays and introduced duration and distraction for some. We also reflected on how we could use stays to improve behaviour at doorways.
Others worked on reducing reactivity and had an introduction to positive based training.
Well done folks, see you next week.
It was training time for Poppy the Puppy this afternoon.
Some dogs really are more challenging than others and Poppy certainly has her moments but she isn't aggressive, just over excited.
Poppy has been a bit worried about some of her grooming practices recently, so today we started helping her feel more confident. Unfortunately her most recent visit to the groomers didn't go well.
Today we discussed consent and how its important for people to really consider how the animal is doing/feeling, to be in an open 2 way form of communication/dialogue, so that we can alter our behaviour and by doing so reduce their stress. I am glad I could help Poppy, its not her fault that the groomer didn't listen when she told them she was worried and scared and wanted it to stop. Don't worry Poppy, your guardians have got ya back.
Somone learnt Stay during our session this morning.
Such a sweet dog, we started training by having a cuddle and sharing some physical affection. Its important to meet their individual needs.
A good session, well done. Hope to see you in classes soon.
It went from little to large today, this afternoon I had my first visit with Blade the XL Bully.
What a cracking dog, we had a good first session and started work on communication and some basic training. See you soon.
Kevin was an active little fella during our session this morning.
It was very nice to meet you and your human, see you soon.
A good team.
We had an awsome 3rd session with Axel this afternoon, he has done very well over the last 6 weeks.
The major changes we are seeing now include:
A lot better recall, at 90% + success rate even away from Kangaroos!
Better loose lead walking.
Starting to drop items on cue.
Started understanding the "leave it" cue.
Increased engagement when out of the house.
Can do simple target training.
Understands what a reward mark is.
Better improved reaction when his name is used.
More successful responses to cues.
Its been fun, well done, keep up the good work.
I last saw the family back in 2019 and I was delighted to be meeting up with them again, this time with the new rescue pup, Peppa.
Peppa is getting some support to be more confident and reduce some undesirable reactivity.
A great first session, sweet girl, it will take some time for her to learn to trust, strangers in particular. We made a good start and Ella the last family dog I worked with appeared to remember me, I was fond of this girl who first arrived with some reactivity issues also.
What a mix, Bull Terrier, Pit Bull, Kelpie, Rotweiler etc, she is a very clever girl.
Classes for this evening are postponed, too hot!
Fletcher, what a little cutie!
We started addressing some reactivity issues and we made a wonderful start.
A great session.

Toodyay Tuesday group class was a hit this morning and we welcomed Odie the Oodle to the group.
Today we focused on loose lead walking, some small jumps, reactivity, sits, downs and arounds. Plus some.
Whilst training we are also keeping in mind the dogs level of focus, motivation, confidence, fear, anxiety, stress, success rate, failure rate, health and happiness. We are constantly adjusting the training according to each individuals needs and requirements. Meanwhile the humans are also trying to be very conscious about how they are managing and how they are behaving, just as we are doing for the dogs.
Training is soo much more than sit and stay obedience. Its awareness, consciousness and so much more.
A fun class, well done everyone.
Miles has made some great improvements since our last session so today we started work on some new skills.
Well done Sue, great training. Keep up the good work.
It was my 1st session with Lani this morning. What a huge puppy, its not often I get to see St Bernards.
Today we focused in on reducing some undesirable behaviours such as Jumping up and reactivity towards visitors.
A great dog, she just gets a bit worried about new folk. Lani invited me to play by landing her tug toy on my lap. Nice!
It was hot today so we worked indoors, Lani in one photo can be seen laying down with multiple bits of chicken laid out before her nose, it took her a while to get motivated for training at times. The chicken was her incentive to get to her feet, but we didn't force her to do anything.

Training with Daisy went well today. It was our 1st session and we got stuck into some loose lead walking skills and door manners.

Positive harness training I promised to post a video of Tilly putting her harness on. I met quite a few guardians who struggle to put the harness on their dog. Look how Tilly gets her own harness on. As much as you can, don't chase your dog to force them into a harness, help them learn that putting the harness on can be a fun activity, even when you don't go for a walk. Positive harness training is something we can help out with during our 1-1 sessions. Just get in touch. Biggie and Handler demonstrates their skills at Alex's Dog Development School on Thursday. Biggie is asked for a down stay, whilst an enrichment toy consisting of food folded into a towel is prepared in front of him. The handler walks away and places the towel at distance, returns to dog then directs the dog to find it. Awsome work team, well done. The skills: Focus Mat Down Stay with variables Impulse control Enrichment toy use Find it Loose lead and long line work A great way to end the classes for 2023. #perthdogtraining #positivedogtraining #positivereinforcement #dogtrainer #dogtrainingperth #alextippettdogtraining #bigdog
Bonnie learned how to catch thrown food this morning during our group session in Toodyay, Bonnie also demonstrated some good pawing skills and has shed a few pounds. Way to go go Mary and Bonnie. Why do we teach catch? Focus, attention, co-ordination, fun and engagement are a few reason that come to mind. #perthdogtraining #positivedogtraining #positivereinforcement #dogtrainer #dogtrainingperth #alextippettdogtraining #blueheeler
Bandit had a few things to say about going for a hike today, I think it was a hit. We had an awesome walk at Pelham Reserve in Toodyay, somewhere new and we spotted some Kangaroos. Good boy Bandit! #perthdogtraining #positivedogtraining #positivereinforcement #dogtrainer #dogtrainingperth #alextippettdogtraining #colliexpointer
Harley Parkour on our 5km railway walk today. What a special little man. #alextippettdogtraining #dogtrainingperth #perthdogtraining #dogtrainer #positivereinforcement #chihuahuas
This week at our Toodyay group class Darcy shows us how training has been going.... #alextippettdogtraining
Munro practised getting out of the car and heading to the mat today during our group session. I have observed that many dogs are excited and perhaps harder to steer when they first get out of the car. If we can make heading to the mat a pattern it would be helpful, later we can add in a sit or a down perhaps, plus some more duration. A handy skill for a dog to learn.
Our decompression walk with focus on mindfulness went well yesterday morning. We had a trip to Lesmerdie Falls.
Shilo practices not focusing on the mini horses and offers trained alternative behaviours which are more desirable. Super proud of how well our 3 sessions have gone. Keep up the good work!
