Today alone, we had 3 surrenders, 10 dogs arrived from a local pound, there are another 6 arriving tomorrow, and found out there are 3 puppies in Narrogin that need saving before the end of the week. Not to mention the multiple emergency surrender messages we receive every single day 💔 That's 22 dogs in and only 1 dog out so far this week.

Low adoption rates means no kennel space and we are unable to save the dogs that are in need.

This is Milo. A 6 month old Rottweiler x Staffy, she is scared and confused. She was surrendered as her previous owner cannot care for her, just days before her first Christmas she finds herself alone at a shelter.

We understand most people go away for Christmas and it might not be the right time to adopt or foster for some but this is a plea for the people that are staying home this Christmas. The families that could help us by making some kennel space by adopting or fostering so dogs don't have to be put to sleep in pounds.

EDIT: THANK YOU to everyone for the amazing response - we have received over 100 applications for foster carers so please be patient as we get back to everyone!

✨🍔 ADOPT THE MACCAS BREKKY KIDS - HOTCAKE, HASHBROWN & TOASTIE 🍔✨

Hey there, future friends! We’re the Maccas breakfast kittens, your purr-sonal bundles of joy served with a side of fluffy goodness.

Nature
In the world of feline fast-food, our personalities are top-tier. We’re not just regular kittens; we’re the affectionate nuggets you've been craving. Cuddles are our specialty, and we’ve got purrs that can rival the soothing hum of a milkshake machine.

When it comes to playtime, we are the happy meals you've been waiting for! Playful is our middle name, and toys are our favourite dipping sauces. From feather wands to crinkly balls, we conquer them all with the finesse of a McNugget master.

Confidence? Oh, we’ve got it in spades! We strut around like we own the place, and why wouldn't we? We’re the superstars of the McDonald's-themed cat universe.

Now, let's talk about our potential combo. If you're seeking a fluffy friend who's affectionate, playful, and confident, look no further. We’re the kitten meal deals you didn't know you needed. We would all fit in perfectly to an indoor home with another kitty friend!

Companions (Children, Cats & Dogs)
Kids you say? Let’s play! We would be their best friend, we are such a confident little kittens, we think we would enjoy the extra attention.

We would love to be adopted as pairs! If you can only take one of us, that’s okay too, as long as you have another cat at home for us to be friends with, we wouldn’t wanna be only cats! We could adjust to living with a cat-savvy pooch with slow introductions.

Likes / Dislikes
We LOVE food, so much so that we tend to put most of our body in the bowl! Just a disclaimer so that you can’t blame our Foster Mum for our messy eating habits! 🤣 We eat Royal Canin babycat mousse twice a day with biscuits available at all times.

We are very neat and well behaved kittens when it comes to our toileting habits, we use the tray like pros!

Our PURR-fect home would be indoor only with another feline friend, or to be adopted as pairs! We would love a family who will give us lots of love and cuddles.

If you would like to meet Hotcake, Hashbrown or Toastie they will be at our instore caboodle at Better Pets & Gardens Whitfords from today onwards.

If you would like to apply to adopt Hotcake, Hashbrown or Toastie please fill in this adoption application form http://j.mp/Adoptionforms or email [email protected]

Perth Rescue Angels recommends all cats are indoor only, unless they have access to a secure cat enclosure.

😿Home for the Holidays - Fee Free cats😿

Can you help us?

We are at crisis point once again, seeing surrender numbers reaching 50 a day the last week due to the continuing kitten season we are at breaking point. With over 300 cats on site at the shelter and over 600 in temporary foster homes.

We are deciding to take desperate measures and make all adult cats fee free and kittens 2 for 1 this weekend in hopes we can find some homes and free up space here at the shelter to keep taking in cats in need. Being completely full our staff and volunteers have been working overtime and are exhausted.

Incoming cats are being housed in dog crates and carriers as we do not have space to house them on grounds, if you have a spare room, bathroom or laundry you can use to temporarily house a cat or can take one home permanently please come down to Cat Haven in Shenton Park and speak with our lovely team.

Some of the cats in our care have been in the shelter for over 5 weeks waiting for their second chance, can that please be with you?

All normal stringent adoption procedures apply, with anyone adopting from the shelter or from foster. This decision was not made lightly and has been thoroughly discussed and researched prior to this decision being made. We reserve the right to refuse an adoption without explanation.

To our loyal followers, We can’t bear to watch any more. These fires are just too terrible. They have impacted so many wildlife, that tonight we are asking for your desperate help.

I’m hoping at least 12 of you will donate to our emergency fire fundraiser that we are launching right now. You can click here to donate: https://native-animal-rescue.giveeasy.org/urgent-help-in-our-time-of-need

The fires in the Jandabup and Wanneroo areas of Western Australia are devastating. There are so many wildlife that are injured and need veterinary care now and long-term. It’s going to be a long road to recovery but it’s our promise to you that we will be there every step of the way. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

The short term needs are immense. Thousands of birds, kangaroos, joeys, birds and reptiles like Bobtails, Owls, Magpies and others are in desperate need of treatment. They have been burnt badly and the damage from breathing in the smoke is immense. It’s just too sad for words. We are emotionally and physically tired but we are out rescuing and will continue to do this. We’ve all had very little sleep as you can imagine and this is likely to continue for a long time to come.

In the longer term these precious animals will require rehabilitation. The road is long. It will be challenging but all our current and immediate efforts amongst our foster carers and volunteers is saving as many of the wildlife as possible.

When a fire hits, the first hours after our critical for survival. This is now. There is absolutely no time to lose as we save as many wildlife as possible.

If I’m honest with you, we need to raise at least $60,000 to be in a position to treat as many animals as possible. Vet bills and food are the main things we need to cover in the short term. This number is likely to rise….

Our team are all volunteers and are working around the clock. We will continue to do this for as long as it takes. We were put on this planet to rescue and rehabilitate and in these dark times we will continue to go above and beyond. We will not stop, I promise x

Just $5 from each and every one of you would get us to our goal. It’s the cost of your next cup of coffee but one that will literally save wildlife badly injured in these tragic fires.

If you can please write the word DONE below after you have donated and please please share this far and wide. We need the whole word to see the tragedy unfolding for our wildlife here and chip in. It is just so important.

We receive no operational government funds so every dollar you donate tonight is just so vital.

I’m really hoping that when I wake up in the morning we have hit our goal. Let’s do this team x.

Please donate now: https://native-animal-rescue.giveeasy.org/urgent-help-in-our-time-of-need

The first lot of injured animals arrived tonight from the bush fires that obliterated Davinci park in Tapping , thankyou to Lauren and Isaac for going thru and finding these guys.

7 bobtails were covered in ash and it looks like a heap of feet burns with swollen wrinkled pads and toes , deep burns on noses and tails and very sore eyes .

Tonight, my kids and I will be bathing these guys, providing pain relief , burn gels , sub cut hydration and providing lots of comfort and water, till they’re vet assessed tomorrow .

I’m no where near 100% unfortunately & it’s so frustrating having to ask for help for the basics , (I can’t go into how I am yet unfortunately), but it feels so good to be out of bed for a bit and back doing what I can with the animals I love .

Stay safe out there to all the people in our fire affected areas , my heart goes out to you all and our wildlife . Thank you to ALL the amazing fire crews fighting this fire , you know how much I love working with you all .

If anyone finds any injured wildlife please call Native Animal Rescue AU 92493434, kelli and the team are ready for the care of injured wildlife in this event & we will try our best to coordinate pickups where we can , but if the public can help , we appreciate it .

I will help where I can so please call , 0409378717 if you have an injured reptile enquiry

If you’d like to help us with medications, treatments food etc.

Please donate here

Emergency Animal Support (in) Evacuation Western Australia (EASE WA) has made an urgent plea for supplies, as the organisation seeks to provide sanctuary for animals displaced by the fires.

Hay bales, roo mix, and lamb pellets, as well as water and feed buckets, are among the supplies needed to aid the paddock and wildlife animals being evacuated from disaster zones.

If you would like to make to help or make a donation, contact Wanneroo Stock Feeders.

An animal evacuation area has been set up at the Wanneroo Showgrounds.

For latest emergency updates and advice, visit Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA. It is too late for people east of Pinjar Road to evacuate. Seek shelter in your home away from the fire front.

SEVERE HEAT ALERT
Please if you are in Perth bring in your birds if they are in cages outside.

If you have aviaries please ensure they are in full shade (under trees or covered by heavy shade cloth), have plenty of cool water and if possible a misting system. Frozen fruit and veggies and iceblocks can be given for them to eat along with their regular diet.

Older or sick birds may need to be caught and brought inside. Some species cope better with heat than others but don't assume that your birds will be ok, they need to be regularly monitored for signs of heat stress (panting, wings held open, lethargic)

Don't forget to leave cool water out for wildlife also.

HEAT STROKE- How to avoid cooking your pet this summer.

As temperatures rise into the high 30’s some pets here in Perth will be hospitalised for the catastrophic effects of heatstroke. Many will survive if their owners are aware of the signs and take immediate life-saving action. Sadly despite the best of veterinary care, some may die of the complications of this horrific condition.
Dogs are most commonly affected but vets will also see cases in rabbits, guinea pigs, and other pocket pets.

As dogs cannot sweat, their main method of cooling themselves is to evaporate water by panting, in addition to drinking water, decreasing their activity, seeking shade and finding cool surfaces to lie on.

Signs of heat stroke include excessive, distressed, harsh sounding panting and then collapse. Dogs with heat stroke are trying so hard to breathe faster, that they often cannot stop for long enough to drink water.

Particularly at risk are geriatric animals, short nosed dogs which always have noisy breathing, dogs with stridor due to narrowing of their upper airway, and any dog which already has heart or lung disease, is obese or already ill. We have also seen young excitable dogs develop heat stroke secondary to chasing balls or playing excessively on hot days.

Consequences of heat stroke are death or damage to any organ, commonly muscle damage and bleeding disorders. Other complications include seizures, severe shock, ulceration, bleeding from the stomach and intestines causing blood in both vomit and diarrhoea, damage to the kidneys, liver, brain and lungs.

If your dog starts to develop distressed panting and excessively noisy breathing in hot weather, immediately stop any exercise. Actively cool your dog for at least five minutes by continuously saturating the whole coat with a hose or placing under a cold water shower. If your pet does not appear completely back to normal after 5 minutes of active cooling then you should immediately seek veterinary attention for your pet. Cooling them with a hose is essential first aid, but in moderate and severe cases intravenous fluids and medications to treat complications may be required. Their chance of survival is much better if medical care is started rapidly; waiting a few hours to see if they will get better can be associated with a decreased chance of survival.

While driving to the veterinary clinic have the air conditioning on full or have the windows open while continuing to wet the dog’s coat with a water bottle. If your dog is small take a blanket or towel with you (just in case you manage to drop their body temperature too low and they start shivering).

Safety tips for dog owners over the hot days ahead include:
1) Do not exercise your dogs in the heat of the day
2) Never leave dogs in cars (or sheds), as temperatures rise within minutes in enclosed environments, even if the windows are left partially open
3) Always make sure they have plenty of fresh water and shade and keep dogs at increased risk inside; in air-conditioning if possible.
4) If heat stroke is suspected immediately start cooling your dog with cold running water for five minutes and then seek immediate veterinary attention
5) If your dog has had heatstroke in the past be extra vigilant, they are at greater risk of it occurring again.
6) Keep dogs with stridor (noisy breathing) in air conditioning and have them checked by your vet (in many situations surgery can help them to breath more normally and decrease their risk factors for heat stroke).

If you have caged animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs or ferrets, remember cages prevent them burrowing underground or seeking a cooler area on hot days, so you will need to take care that their cage is moved to a cool location.

Finally please leave water bowls out for birds and wildlife as their ability to remain well hydrated is important for wildlife surviving hot weather days. Sadly, climate change has significantly decreased rainfall in our environment over the past few decades which affects wildlife who can't turn on the tap to take a drink when they need it.

🐾😿 We need your help 😿🐾

Hey feline friends and compassionate humans,

We are reaching out with heavy hearts to share that once again we are starting to fill up with cat and kittens, with lots of cats who are desperately seeking their furrever homes. These precious souls are longing for a warm lap, gentle pats, and a place to call their own. 💔

As we walk through the adoption sheds, we can see the love in their eyes, just wanting a place to call home.

With the summer heat well and truly here we can't wait and have to act quickly to get cats into homes, we would be in crisis if we have to house cats in dog crates in this weather.

Adoption is not just about finding a pet; it's about saving a life, offering a second chance, and being the hero to a furry friend that desperately needs one.

Come visit the shelter and meet these incredible cats and kittens in person. Please also consider sharing this post, spreading the word and talking to friends and family.

Let's turn this heart-breaking tale into a hopeful one. Together, we can make a difference, one adoption at a time. 🌈🏡💕

Adoptions open 10am-5:45pm weekdays and 10am-4pm weekends. 23 Lemnos Street, Shenton Park

OUR LATEST ECHO PHOTO

110 days Echo has been waiting for a home. Most of this in a cage or kennel. She had a brief stint in foster, one of the reasons for her return, that she didn't 'bond' fast enough...

Like most rescue dogs, Echo needs patience and time. After 110 days of listening to a constant racket of barking and howling, it's no wonder she would be unsettled and missing her old life.

She can be cautious of new men, but connects beautifully with women. She's not social with other dogs, but can ignore them on walks. All of her skills need reinforcement and practice, how else will she keep learning?

You can't expect Echo to walk in and be amazing with everything, but you can expect Echo to try her best! You can expect Echo to be soft and sweet. You can expect Echo to steal your heart.

Today is a big and important day for the forests. In collaboration with 8 other WA environment organisations, we have launched our new End Forest Mining campaign with two very powerful ads.

There is a giant billboard on Murray Street running all week, and a full page ad on page 15 of today's The West Australian, and this is just the beginning.

The ads are linked back to a new webpage; an open letter to the Premier and other MPs; a crowdfunder and a way for people to sign up to volunteer in the campaign.

☀️ HOT WEATHER WARNING! ☀️

Today will be hot! Please share this reminder! 🔥

Although it's the weekend and you might want to take your pooch out for the day, it is NEVER OK to leave your dog in the car – not even for “5 minutes while I duck into the shops”.

In temperatures like today’s, the temp inside the car can quickly rise to dangerous levels, and your dog can start to suffer from heatstroke. It is always better to leave your dog at home where there is shade and plenty of water, where you know that they will be safe. There are NO EXCUSES.

Here are some tips to keep your pet as cool as a cucumber this weekend! 🥒

🐾 If you are going out, leave your mate at home with plenty of shade and water available!
🐾 Make sure multiple bowls of water are available - you can even add some ice to cool it down!
🐾 Do not walk your pet in the heat of the day, keep walks for early mornings or evenings when the pavement has cooled down!
🐾 Bring your pets indoors if possible!
🐾 Provide a shell pool filled with water for your dog to cool themselves down!

If you see a dog in a hot car, note down the vehicle's registration number and location and report it immediately to the RSPCA Cruelty Hotline on 1300 278 358 (1300 CRUELTY) or call WA Police on 000.

02/11/2023

If you don't yet have a bird bath or you'd like to add a few more to your garden before summer really starts, you don't need to spend a lot of money – there are some inexpensive and even free options around!

Most nurseries sell terracotta pot plant saucers for under $10 - or you may be able to find free saucers in your local Buy Nothing community group. Birds like unglazed terracotta because they can grip the sides more easily - so they are often more popular than an expensive glazed bath. Just add a few sticks and stones and place it next to a shrub and it should attract wildlife easily.

Sprinklers can also help to cool birds down on really hot days. If you position the sprinkler under a native tree or shrub, they can fly through the spray without having to leave their shelter. Spraying foliage also allows insects to sip water from leaves.

🚑 If you are providing water in your garden, but an animal is still panting, weak, confused, salivating, staggering, out during the day (if nocturnal) or on the ground (if a tree dweller), then please take it to a vet or wildlife hospital, for rehydration.

MISSING/STOLEN - BABY ALPACA - WANNEROO (CITY OF WANNEROO - PERTH)

Perth friends please share this URGENTLY !!!!
Hoping you can help reunite a baby alpaca that has been stolen from the Wanneroo area on Friday night. This alpaca has not been weaned and is too young to be separated from its mother. This baby will be deeply distressed just like the mum is. They need to be urgently reunited.
Alpacas don’t do well outside a herd and this shortens their lifespan. Please if you know who has it, they may not know the suffering they have caused mum and baby. No questions asked I will come and get the alpaca or meet you to collect. Or please force them to return. That humming noise it is making if it has the energy left or if it isn’t too scared will be it begging for its mum. In this heat there is a major risk of dehydration and cows milk isn’t appropriate for the alpaca. Please please help!!

Please please help!
